The Lakers defeated SUNY Canton Friday night on the road by a score of 8-2 and then returned home Saturday to get a conference win 5-1 against the Morrisville State Mustangs. The Lakers are now 7-3-1 with one game left prior to a couple weeks off over the month of December.

The non conference victory featured a 8-2 score line with Oswego and Canton going into the second period tied at 1-1. Tyler Flack would get his first goal of the evening with Jackson Arcan snagging the assist. That powerplay goal was the first of five unanswered goals with four of them coming in the second period. Alex Dicarlo, AJ Ryan, Garrett Clegg, and Mac Lewis all got credited with the tallies to put the Lakers ahead big heading into the second period. The Kangaroos were able to get one powerplay goal before the end of the stanza but in the third period, Oswego State would find three more pucks going into the back of the net. Flack and DiCarlo both tallied their second goals of the evening and captain Travis Broughman found himself back in the goal column with the final goal of the evening. Oswego State netminder Eric Green would get his first win in between the pipes as a Laker after making fourteen saves and only allowing two goals.
On Saturday, head coach Ed Gosek put junior netminder Steven Kozikoski back in the net for their match up against Morrisville State. Tyson Kirkby would snag the first goal of the contest and let the teddy bears fly on Teddy Bear Night. All the toys were donated to Toys For Tots during this holiday season. That powerplay goal was assisted by Rocco Andreacchi and Ben Addison within the first ten minutes of the contest. Oswego Men’s Lacrosse falls to SUNY Brockport 12-5

OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State Men’s Lacrosse team was defeated by SUNY Brockport on Friday, losing their season opener 12-5. It was not the outcome the Lakers were looking for, especially after they had to wait longer than any other team in the West Division to start their 2021 season.
Brockport set the tone early in the first quarter, scoring 3 goals in the first four minutes of regulation. The Golden Eagles’ ferocious defensive effort made it hard for the Lakers to run their offense early on, as they only allowed 1 goal in the 1st quarter and held Oswego scoreless in the 2nd. The Lakers faced a 6-point deficit going into halftime and unfortunately, it was too big for them to overcome. Although Oswego was more efficient in the second half, they were unable to stop Brockport’s high powered offense lead by Jack Peterson and Rocco Santillo, who each had 3 goals respectively.
The difference-maker in this game was turnovers, as Oswego had nearly double the number of turnovers that Brockport had (21 to 11). Five Lakers scored in this matchup, including Weston Gray, Liam Dollard, Lucas Cioch, Dan Doolan, and Ryan Dumont. Freshman midfielder, Shane Ladd, went 10-20 on faceoffs in his collegiate debut. Senior goalkeeper, Kevin O’Donnell, had 11 saves, bringing his collegiate all-time to 409 in the saves category. Oswego has an opportunity to win their first game of the season on April 9th vs Cortland. The game will be held at Laker Turf Stadium with a 7 p.m. faceoff and WTOP 10 will have all the action.

Logan Castiglione and the Oswego State Women’s Lacrosse Team
OSWEGO, N.Y. — Following their unprecedented 2020 season, the Oswego State Women’s Lacrosse team has started their 2021 season off strong, securing victories against Morrisville State, Buffalo State, and SUNY Fredonia. The Lakers have won decisively in each of their victories thus far, lead by the outstanding play and leadership of junior midfielder, Logan Castiglione.
Castiglione is playing in her first lacrosse season since her senior year of high school and it doesn’t seem like she’s missed a beat. Through six games she’s totaled 11 goals and 11 assists, including a 5-goal performance vs. Morrisville State in her first game in over 3 years. Being that Logan is one of the more experienced athletes on the team, she believes it’s important for her to take on a leadership role this season. She states, “I really just try to keep myself composed. Since I am older, I try to be a leader more on the field.”
The Oswego Women’s Lacrosse team is 3-3 so far this season and although they’re currently on a 3-game losing streak, Coach Britt Howard believes this team has what it takes to make a postseason run. Howard has been coaching Women’s Lacrosse at Oswego since 2016 and she sees a lot of potential from this year’s team, especially from Logan Castiglione.
Coach said, “Logan just started joining out program this year and she really had a great start for her first game with us, so that was huge for her.”
Though the Lakers are in good position to qualify for SUNYACs, they must continue to build on their team chemistry in order to ensure a successful season, something Castiglione has emphasized to her team. She states, “Throughout the first couple weeks that I’ve been playing, we’ve been talking about teamwork, communication, and how much team chemistry is important on and off the field.”
Castiglione and the Oswego Women’s Lacrosse team have the opportunity to improve to 4-3 as they take on Buffalo State on April 18th.
