Syracuse Police are investigating after one person is reported dead and another suffered a leg injury in a shooting near a home on Hope Avenue in Syracuse Wednesday evening.
According to reports, two suspects dumped their car and fled into Oakwood Search resulting in what is being considered an active search and homicide investigation.
Because of the closeness to the school, Syracuse University issued an Orange Alert which warned students of the off-campus investigation and recommended that they stay indoors and not let anybody in.
As of 10:56 PM, the Alert was lifted, but authorities still have not been able to find the suspects, who shot at two police officers in two separate encounters.
No officers have been reported injured at this time.

Mighty Taco Makes A Long Awaited Comeback
Mighty Taco will be making an appearance again in Central New York.
Last Friday, Mighty Taco announced on Facebook that they will be opening a new location in Cicero, NY. The food chain will be taking the place of an old Tim Horton’s.
Mighty Taco is a Mexican style restaurant that started in the city of Buffalo in 1973 and it has been a fan favorite ever since it started and has spread out to, with the addition of this new location, 24 locations.
Mighty Taco is primarily based around the Buffalo area and western New York, and the new location will now be the farthest east of any of the other Mighty Taco locations. It is also the second time the franchise tried starting up in the Syracuse area.
The last time Mighty Taco was in the Syracuse area was when it had a location in Carousel Center, now known as Destiny USA.
Given the continuous growth, Mighty Taco believes they are now ready to take on the challenge of starting up in Syracuse.

Women’s hockey beats Williams
This weekend, the women’s hockey team travelled to Willamstown, MA to take on Williams.
On Saturday, the Lakers would defeat the Ephs 7-2. At the end of the second period, the Lakers were up 2-0. In the third period, Alexa Aramburu would contribute to the five goal period by scoring three out of the five goals. This would be Aramburu’s second-career hat trick. Olivia Ellis also had a great game scoring one goal and assisting on all three of Aramburu’s goals.
On Sunday, the Lakers would again defeat the Ephs, but this time only by a score of 1-0. The lone goal came from Alexa Aramburu in the second period. Jacquelin White and Olivia Ellis assisted Aramburu’s goal. Mariah Madrigal recorded her second shutout of the season and seventh victory. Madrigal stopped all 32 of the Ephs’ on-goal attempts. She has now made 25 or more saves in each of her last three outings, all culminating in wins.
The Lakers will return home this weekend and play Canton in a Friday night game and a Saturday afternoon game.

The Iron Pour

Oswego, NY- Oswego State had their annual Iron Pour on Apr. 14. Iron Pour is an event that takes place once a semester by students in Oswego State’s Technology 205 (Materials Precision Production) course. The event took place in the pit behind Tyler Hall.
Professors and students collected recycled pieces of metal from around campus and heated it up to 3000 degrees. After the metal has melted, it is poured into plastic molds in order to create iron molds.
The event was organized by professor Benjamin Entner and other Technology 205 professors. Entner says the event is a spectacle.
“Everyone likes fire,” he said. “There’s an element of danger although it’s quite safe. It’s a unique experience not every college campus does.”
Students in the course were excited because of how much they prepared for this event throughout the semester. Those who came to watch were allowed to design plastics molds and have iron poured into it. After waiting for the iron to cool, everyone who carved out a mold was allowed to leave with the iron plate that they designed.
Oswego State student Lawrence Chiappone is currently in the Technology 205 class and says the Iron Pour is a great event for people to get involved with.
“Not many colleges do an Iron Pour,” he said. “You have a chance to make a sculpture. I think the professors in the community are really good about it.”
Oswego State student Michael Gambro took the Technology 205 class last year and was excited to come back to see the work done to this year’s event.
“I think it’s a cool way to get people involved,” he said. “It seems like something a little bit different around campus.”
