OSWEGO, N.Y. — On Tuesday, the #25 Oswego State men’s basketball team defeated SUNY Geneseo 88-63, extending their win streak to 11. This victory not only marked the Lakers’ fifth win of the new year, but also the first Geneseo SUNYAC loss.
Through the first four minutes of play, both teams came out firing, with the Knights leading 7-6. Shortly after, Oswego found themselves on a 9-0 run lead by junior Jamal Achille who scored six points. After the Knights went on a scoring run of their own, Oswego was able to capitalize on a 13-4 run which put the Lakers up 38-22 at the half. The Lakers were able to hold the Knights to 25% from the field in the first half, their lowest shooting percentage in any half this season.
Both teams came into the second half scorching hot. In the first 10 minutes, Geneseo were perfect beyond the arch as they went 5-for-5 from three. However, the Lakers were able to keep pace with Geneseo’s scoring onslaught, answering every three with one of their own, going 7-for-9 from deep. Geneseo brought the deficit to eight, but Brendan Mulson hit a three to put the Lakers up by double-digits once again. Over the final six minutes of regulation, the Lakers continued their great shooting performance, hitting four more shots from deep as their lead grew to over twenty.
Oswego finished the night with 13 three-pointers while shooting a whopping 51.6% from the field. Senior Julien Crittendon lead the Lakers in scoring with 18 points while Devin Green totaled 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Brendan Mulson (11) and Ahkee Anderson (10) also scored double-digit points in the contest.
With this win, the Lakers are now in sole possession of the top seed in the SUNYAC conference. Oswego is also the #25 ranked team in the nation and with a win on Saturday against SUNY Cortland, they will almost certainly rise in the standings. Tip off is set for 4:00 p.m. at Cortland. Women’s Basketball Takes Down Blue Devils, Roll to 7-0
OSWEGO, NY- The Lakers extended their winning streak to seven after defeating the Fredonia Blue Devils 76-66. Throughout most of the game, it was a back-and-forth battle between the Blue Devils and the Lakers before the Lakers pulled away in the fourth quarter.Diamond Pickett got the Lakers on the board first. A minute later Karleigh Leo would add her first three-pointer of the game to make the score 5-0. Leo led the Lakers with ten points in the first quarter followed by Diamond Pickett with four. The Lakers started out the second quarter with a three-pointer from Chastin Giles who was pretty active in scoring for the Lakers against the Blue Devils. The Lakers led 22-15 at the beginning of the second quarter before squandering six straight points to the Blue Devils only leading by one 22-21. Fredonia rallied with three minutes left in the half to take the lead 30-28 as Kyla Smith scored all five points for the Blue Devils during that run.
The third quarter saw the Lakers take the momentum away from the Blue Devils but were outshot by the Blue Devils 64.4% compared to the Laker’s 42.2%. Leo would help the Lakers retake the lead with another three-pointer to give them a 36-34 lead with 7:35 left in the third. Leo led the Lakers at the end of the third quarter with 13 points followed by Diamond Pickett with 12 and Iglesias with nine. The Lakers led 56-53 at the end of the third.
The Lakers started out the fourth quarter with both Logan Castiglione and Chastin Giles hitting back-to-back three’s to extend the Lakers lead to 8. Karleigh Leo hit a three-pointer with 4:31 left to extend the Lakers lead to ten 69-59. This forced the Blue Devils to burn one of their timeouts. The Blue Devils would commit six fouls in the final two minutes of the game which included Renee Park who was disqualified from the game after her fifth foul of the game. The Lakers made five free throws to extend the score 76-66 to win the game. Karleigh Leo once again led the Lakers in scoring with 23 points as she is averaging 19.5 points/per game. Leo is currently #1 in D3 Women’s Basketball in three-pointers made with 28, three-point attempts with 73, and three-pointers per game with 4.67. Diamond Pickett had another stellar performance with 16 points along with Shania Iglesias with 14 points. Chastin Giles played impressively as well with ten points on the day.
The Lakers will be back in the Max Ziel Gymnasium on Friday, December 2nd to take on the Brockport Golden Eagles at 5:30 PM. The Lakers are searching for their first 8-0 start since the 2004-05 season where they finished that season 24-4. The Lakers are looking to defeat Brockport for the first time since the 2019-20 season when they defeated them 69-62 in Brockport. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 71-63 win over Buffalo State improving their record to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the SUNYAC.

Oswego State men’s hockey splits weekend in SUNYAC play
OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State men’s hockey team had another jam packed weekend with two conference games against Brockport and Geneseo. Heading into the games, Oswego was coming off a 2-1 win over the Cortland Red Dragons. The Lakers would extend their win streak Friday night on the road in Rochester at the Tuttle North Arena against the Golden Eagles. The Brockport team came into the contest with an overall record of 5-0 and receiving 24 votes in the USCHO Division III poll. Trent Grimshaw would strike first for the Lakers on the powerplay to give Oswego it’s first goal in the first period this season. The goal came 14:46 minutes into the period and was assisted by team points leader Connor Sleeth and defenseman Ben Addison. Oswego would add another power play goal in the second period off the stick of Rocco Andreacchi. The Lakers would complete the contest going 2/5 with the man advantage and Addison and Grimshaw would get credited with the assists on the goal. Brockport would answer during 4 on 4 hockey later in the period but would not be able to finish the comeback before the final buzzer sounded. Oswego netminder Steven Kozikoski would get the win in between the pipes and made 30 saves over the course of the contest.
The Lakers would head back to the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and set their sights on the number one ranked team in the nation, the Geneseo Ice Knights. These two teams faced off for the first time since the 2019-20 SUNYAC Championship game and Geneseo found themselves in a similar situation at the end of the contest. The Lakers would fall 6-1 to the Ice Knights, their fourth straight loss against the team. Geneseo would tally four goals in the first period, three of those against Kozikoski before the junior got pulled by head coach Ed Gosek. Eric Green would finish the contest for the Lakers. The junior goaltender also gave up three goals against making eight saves in between the pipes. The Lakers would win the shot battle 23 to 17 but would only be able to put one puck past Geneseo netminder Matt Petizian. Alex DiCarlo would ruin the shutout in the third period to find his third goal of the season.
After this weekend, Oswego remains towards the top of the SUNYAC conference with a record of 3-0-1-0-1 and 10 points. Geneseo remains at the top with 13 points and four wins and one tie. Plattsburgh State and Brockport along with Cortland all remain close behind the Lakers heading into Thanksgiving Break. Oswego will take this weekend off from conference play and head to Williamstown, Massachusetts to take on Williams College. Games are scheduled for Friday night and Saturday afternoon as the Lakers look to improve their overall record. Lakers Fight Tough Against Geneseo
OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Men’s Soccer fought tough against their SUNYAC opponent Geneseo in a 2-2 tie. The Lakers started out the first half strong as they had four shots within the first ten minutes of the game. The Lakers took the lead early in the game with Kieran Gilroy scoring a goal at the 35:57 mark of the first half. Geneseo would finish off the second half strong as they had six shots within the final 20 minutes of the first half. Oswego had an impressive first half as they had nine total shots.The Knights would control the tempo of the second half. Geneseo would tie the game as they scored their first goal of the game. The Lakers would answer three minutes later as HaJoon Lee scored for the Lakers to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead. The Knights weren’t finished yet though as within about six minutes of the Lakers scoring the Knights scored again tying the game at two a piece. Geneseo outshot Oswego 23-10 during the game. Freshman Goalie Andre Bourjolly had a strong game as he had six saves all coming in the first half. This marks the first time that the Lakers have tied with the Geneseo Knights since the 2018-2019 soccer season.
Oswego State faces off against another SUNYAC opponent the Plattsburgh Cardinals on Saturday, October 8th at 1 PM at the Laker Turf Stadium.
