Oswego, NY — The world’s plastic pollution problem may now have a solution.
According to an article released in the academic journal “Science”, Japan may have discovered a plastic eating bacteria strain.
This bacteria strain can break down the most common plastic, called Polyethylene Terephthalate. It is often found in packaged bottled drinks, household cleaners, and beauty cosmetics. These items can be completely broken down by the strain.
The bacteria strand could mean good news for the environment because about a third of all plastic packaging does not end up in recycling; it ends up out in the environment. According to a report by the World Economic Forum, by 2050 more plastic will be in the oceans than fish.

Come one come all to the local touring dinner theater musical interactive experience that is “Bullets for Broadway”. Filled with music, amazing local talent, comedy, romance, and a surprising murder mystery. Director of the show Derek Potocki says the cast has been hard at work for about a month and that is has “all kinds of twisted plots, crazy things going on, you never know what’s gonna come at you next, it’s really interactive theater at its best.” With all kinds of musical numbers like “Me and You” featuring Jodi Halczyn as Toffee Alto and Peter Fekete as Tony Alto where they confess their love for eachother. Or “Mafia Queen” also featuring Jodi Halczyn as Toffee Alto and Stephanie Johnson as a chorus girl where they sing about Toffee being a mafia queen will leave you laughing yourself right out of your seat.
This show is being put up by none other than Oswego’s very own Theater DuJour! Finding out about how the company was started speaking with Tammy Wilkinson, founder of this company says “we were bringing shows to the Oswego Players, my role there was also producer, but we were having a little bit of a challenge getting butts in the seats and so we had the idea to bring them out into the community”. And good thing she did because they’ve been on a roll ever since, constantly in the media surrounding central New York.

SUNY Oswego hosts 17th annual Great Pumpkin Run

OSWEGO, N.Y.– The Great Pumpkin Run lived up to its name this year by raising money for a great cause. Members of the Oswego community came out on Saturday, October 14th, to participate in the 11th annual Great Pumpkin Run 5k and walk. The event was hosted by SUNY Oswego’s fitness centers and served as fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Donations of five dollars were accepted at check in.
According to their website, the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s mission is to “save lives by meeting the most critical needs in their communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.”
The race began at Hewitt Ballroom and continued around the campus for 3.1 miles. Some runners managed to complete the race in under twenty minutes while other participants chose to walk. Race winner Joe DeBona said finishing the race at 19 minutes and 17 seconds was his best record so far in college.
