The Oswego State men’s hockey team defeated conference foe, Buffalo State, 4-3 on Friday night at the Marano Campus Center Arena. With the victory, the Lakers improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the SUNYAC while the Bengals drop to 3-2-1 on the season and 0-1-1 in conference play.

It did not take long for Oswego to find the back of the net as Joseph Molinaro scored his first goal of the season just five minutes into the game. However, Buffalo State responded with a score of their own to make it a tie game. Although there was not any scoring in the second period, the third made up for it. Aaron Huffnagle and Cameron Berry each scored for the Lakers during the period in five on five action. With Buffalo State down by one and time running out, the Bengals pulled their goalie for an extra skater. However, that move allowed Mitch Emerson to score an empty net goal which sealed the win for the Lakers.

In his third start for Oswego, goaltender David Richer stopped 21 shots. Buffalo State’s Ian Sylves made 35 saves during his time in the crease.

The Lakers will look to maintain their undefeated SUNYAC record tomorrow night against Fredonia in another home matchup. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm.

The Oswego State women’s basketball team fell to the Brockport Golden Eagles by a score of 61-46. With the loss, the Lakers move to 7-17 overall and 4-13 in the conference while Brockport moves to 12-12 on the season.

Oswego battled Brockport throughout the first half keeping their turnovers to a minimum. The Lakers had just three in the first half and eleven total which was significantly lower than their conference leading 19.4 turnovers per game. Brockport’s Schyler Laux would change the momentum of the game as she scored eleven points in the second half. She finished with a game high 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles sealed the deal with a dominant performance as they held the Lakers to just five points in the fourth quarter.

Courtney Ameele led the Lakers with a team high 14 points while Zana Dillard and Rachael Windhausen left their mark on the defensive end. The two each had 11 rebounds with Windhausen also setting a career high with six blocks.

Oswego will play its final game of the season tomorrow at 1:00 against Geneseo at Max Ziel Gymnasium. Before the contest, the team will honor Ameele and Dillard as a part of Senior Day.

A new SUNY Oswego Assistant Professor introduced herself to campus in a special way: by enlightening students with her violin.

Ahreum Kim, the campus’s new assistant professor in high strings and musicology, performed with Professor Robert Auler in front of an audience in Sheldon Ballroom.  The sonatas consisted mostly of classical and romantic times in music.

Professor Kim not only had to perform the music, but also make sure that her movements accurately portrayed the specific emotions of the songs.

Reporter David Hermanovitch talked with Kim, who told him that to portray the emotion, she had to change her expressions at the same time, which is very tiring during the performance.

Overall, the performance was a creative way for Kim to begin her tenure with SUNY Oswego.
