In the NFL, news out of Foxborough today is that the New England Patriots star tight end Rob Gronkowski will undergo back surgery this Friday.
After leaving last weekend’s game against the New York Jets and not returning, Gronkowski was diagnosed with a herniated disk in his back. This will be the third time since 2009 that Gronkowski will undergo surgery on his back for a herniated disk, with the recovery time this time expected to be approximately two months.
This isn’t the first time this year that ‘Gronk’ has been bit by the injury bug, as the 27 year old missed the beginning of the season dealing with a hamstring injury, and missed the Patriots’ game two weeks ago against the San Francisco 49ers with a punctured lung.
Gronkowski has appeared in eight games this season, only starting in six of them, but has still recorded 25 catches for 540 yards and three touchdowns this season.
Even if the Patriots were to advance to Super Bowl LI, the game is scheduled for February 5th; meaning Gronkowski’s season is likely over, barring a New England playoff run.

48-hour Genre Film Festival
by Frederick PrinzivalliOswego, NY- The Oswego Film Club recently held their annual 48 Hour Genre Film Festival. In this event, teams were assigned a film genre and had two days to produce a film. The resulting short films were screened Saturday and awards were given to the best ones. These awards included audience choice, best performance, best editing, and overall best film.Brandon Cortes participated in this event and had this to say, “The film festival was always fun, of course its competitive, I’m competitive, my team and I we tried for it but didn’t win anything.” participant Brandon Cortes said. “But it was still fun to see everyone’s films and projects, everyone tries hard.”Cortes went on to explain his strengths and weaknesses when it came to creating his team’s film.“The most difficult was the acting because the acting, believe it or not, is actually the most important part of the movie itself because its better for one person to show what they have out there and whatever you have in your script, the actor reads off of that. Oswego Gets Back on Track
The Oswego men’s baseball team defeated the Rochester Yellowjackets yesterday in dramatic fashion. The Lakers were trailing heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, but junior infielder Brandon Nicholson hit a double to left that drove in two runs and tied the game at seven. The hitting was contagious as later in that inning three consecutive Lakers put the ball in play, extending their lead by four. That lead was more than enough for the Lakers to pick up the win as they move to 17-6 on the season. Oswego plays host to conference opponent Brockport in a three game series that begins Friday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
