The Oswego State women’s hockey team dropped their contest against Elmira by a score of 4-1. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 2-1 overall while the Soaring Eagles open their season with a win.
During the first period, Oswego struggled on the penalty kill as two of Elmira’s three goals came on the power play. The Soaring Eagles finished 3-8 in power play opportunities while the Lakers failed to capitalize, going 0-8. Oswego’s lone goal came with just under two minutes left in the game off the stick of Jean-Marie Padden with assists by Natalie Giglio and Victoria Blake.
Goalie, Mariah Madrigal, finished with a season high 33 saves for the Lakers while playing the full 60 minutes.
Oswego will be back in action next Saturday at 3 p.m when they take on Buffalo State for Military Appreciation Night.

Men’s hockey remains perfect
Yesterday the Men’s hockey team traveled to Cortland to take on the Red Dragons in SUNYAC action. The Lakers would defeat the Red Dragons 4-1.
Each of the Lakers four goals were all scored by different players. Stephan Johnson would be the first Laker to score. He scored a power play goal to tie the Lakers with the Red Dragons with one minute left in the first period. At the halfway point of the second period, Kenny Neil, got his sixth goal of the year. With three and a half minutes left in the third, Chris Ragueso scored to put the Lakers up 3-1. Mitchell Herlihey would score with just under thirty seconds left in the game.
With the win, the Lakers improve to 5-0 on the year and are #1 in the SUNYAC with a 3-0 record. The Lakers will travel to Potsdam on Friday and to rival Plattsburgh on Saturday.

WTOP-10 TO BROADCAST NCAA DIVISION III BASKETBALL.Division III Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight to be played at Laker Hall and will air on WTOP-10 T.V.
Oswego, NY. March 11th, 2016 — WTOP-10 T.V. is scheduled to air the Sweet Sixteen round of theNCAA Division III Basketball Tournament March 11. Two games will be on the schedule as
Christopher Newport will take on Keene State at 5:30 p.m. and Oswego State goes up against
Wooster at 7:30 p.m.
Each game will feature pre and post game coverage starting 30 minutes before tipoff. The
Oswego-Wooster pre-game time is subject to change based off the end time of the first contest.
The winner of each game will play against each other in an Elite Eight matchup on March 12.
WTOP-10 T.V. will also be airing the Elite Eight contest at 7 p.m. with pre-game coverage starting at
6:30 p.m. The Elite Eight matchup will air regardless of Oswego State’s involvement in the
contest.

Focus on Faculty Series: Rob Auler
On October 21st, Award winning and international pianist takes the stage as he plays multiple of well known classical melodies from impactful pianists/musicians such as Mozart, Bach Busoni, Carter Pann and much more.
Rob Auler, currently professor of music and chairperson of Oswego’s Department of Music, explains the significance of classical piano music in today’s society and the importance of the focus on faculty series in the community.
“I have to explain to my own two children that classical piano is terrific, it’s something that we should celebrate, we should listen to. I’ve designed these five pieces to be highly accessible for audiences who have never heard classical piano playing and in fact, I’ve actually got some of my soccer team kids coming to the show and I particularly want kids like that to come to a recital, see classical piano music that they have never seen before and leave with a very great experience.” Auler said.
“One of the neat things that the music department does we provide public recitals. Not only for the college community, not only for our student, not only for our faculty, but just for the community at large. And not only we are an educational provider but we also provide cultural offerings for the entire community.” Auler also said.
For the students who are trying to get into the profession of music, Auler simply said “persistence and keep on trying new things.” Being in a profession like this isn’t easy but it requires practice and perseverance. Students who attended his concert simply said it was “incredible.” Later this year, the series will continue bringing in other musicians.
