Last Friday, November 11 at 10:00 a.m., the Faculty Art Exhibit opened in Tyler Hall. According to Michael Flanagan, the director of the gallery, the Faculty Art Exhibition tradition has been around since the 1960’s.

The exhibit in Tyler Hall is filled with art created with various mediums, some art actually being interactive. Rebecca Mushtare created a piece based off Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s short story ‘The Yellow Wallpaper,’ entitled ‘After the Yellow Wallpaper,’ where gallery attendees are encouraged to touch her piece. Their body warmth or the use of a provided “hand warmer” packet on her piece creates an endothermic reaction on the thermochromic pigments on her top pattern. The reaction caused her top design to disappear, and allows a hidden design to surface.

On the exhibit as a whole, Mushtare stated, “I love the faculty exhibit we have each year because it reflects the diversity of our practices and a wide range of creative process and techniques. This exhibition gives students insights into their faculty as creative beings who practice what they teach and beyond what they teach.”

Besides giving students and the Oswego community the ability to see an art exhibit when there aren’t many around, Flanagan also thinks it’s a great way to bring together the faculty. “I think it builds a sense of comradery. Often, professors are so busy teaching and researching and also making art that sometimes we don’t get to do things together,” said Flanagan.

The 2016 Faculty Art Exhibit is free to the public and will be open until November 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:0 p.m., with the exception of Mondays and school holidays. After this gallery, Flanagan predicts there will be a total of three galleries this fall semester and four more galleries in the spring semester.

The Oswego State field hockey team fell to Cortland by a score of 7-2 for their first loss in SUNYAC play. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 5-4 on the season while the Red Dragons move to 10-3.

Cortland opened the scoring in the first half thanks to goals from four different Red Dragons. They would take that lead into halftime and added two additional scores early in the second half including Jess Gibaldi’s second of the game. It was not until the 68th minute that Oswego would get on the board. However, for freshman Theresa Glynn, it will be one that she remembers as it was the first of her career. Kathleen Little would also put one in the back of the net for the Lakers to go along with her assist.

Oswego will look to get back into the win column on Saturday when they travel to Geneseo to take on the Knights in another SUNYAC matchup.

OSWEGO, N.Y.– SUNY Oswego has many clubs that students can join on campus, but some are harder to find than others. The Oswego Odyssey is a small club of writers who write blogs focusing on topics that appeal to college students and the Oswego community.

The Odyssey is a national online platform where contributors across the United States write long form articles and create videos. The content that shows up for each reader is tailored to their interests.

Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Oswego Odyssey Brooke Lehr said she has been writing for Odyssey since her freshman year; two years ago. She said the reason why she loves the Odyssey is because it is an outlet for her to share her opinions with people and she is happy to help people share their ideas as Co-Editor-in-Chief.

Oswego Odyssey contribuer Corey Cesare said she joined the club at the start of the semester because she loved writing. Cesare said since joining, she has found success on the platform with one of her articles getting over 3,000 views which according to Cesare is “a big deal!”

Lehr said that the Odyssey looks great on a resume because it shows writers persuasion skills by trying to persuade readers with their views and also shows commitment by posting consistent weekly articles for a national platform.
