OSWEGO — The Lakers defeated the Nazareth Golden Flyers in a quick three sets on Wednesday at the Max Ziel Gymnasium. The Golden Flyers came into the match 9-8 with a steady 3-1 away record. Lauren Fie and Julia Flohr led Oswego with two long serving runs that secured the first set. They would need to battle back in the other two sets to sweep Nazareth and improve to 14-6 overall. Shauna O’Flaherty, Senior, stood out with 13 kills and 2 blocks along with Lauren Fie’s 3 aces throughout the match. The team looks to take the recent success on the road for a 4-game road trip that starts with Plattsburgh this Friday. Oswego still has six matches SUNYAC games left before starting SUNYACS in early November.

Oswego State Baseball Splits with Oneonta in SUNYAC Crossover
ONEONTA, N.Y. — The Oswego State Lakers baseball team traveled to Oneonta thursday for a doubleheader SUNYAC crossover matchup against the Red Dragons. Oswego would only be able to secure one of the possible two wins today by taking the first game in dominant fashion by a score of 19-5 but then falling in the second game 5-2.
In the first game it was all Lakers as they were up 6-3 after three innings and up 8-3 after four. Oswego’s bats would continue to remain hot by propelling 6 runs in the seventh inning to put them up 17-5. Led by senior Ryan Enos he was able to hit for a pair of doubles and a home run. However not only the upperclassmen came out to shine in the first game, freshman Jacob Levine was able to provide 4 RBI’s for Oswego as well. Moving on to the second game Oneonta was able to edge the lakers by a score of 5-2. Oswego would not have the hot offense in this matchup only generating 2 runs in seven innings as well as only 5 hits. The Red Dragons were able to jump off early by getting three runs in the first three innings including two individual home runs in the third. Brandon Frank and Julian Drew were the only Lakers to generate RBI’s. Looking on the other end at the mound, Oneonta senior pitcher Michael Losak was able to steal the show and throw 120 pitches in a complete game to carry them to the win.
Oneonta now sits at 11-9 overall this season with the split and 6-8 in the SUNYAC East division and currently are in second . The team looks forward to Saturday for a doubleheader against another west division foe in the Brockport Golden Eagles with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. As for the Lakers, they have now gone 2-2 in their last 4 to move to 19-3 overall and 12-2 in the SUNYAC and secure the first place seed in the West division. They will look to bounce back on track with a double header on Saturday as well against an East division opponent in the Plattsburgh Cardinals who have not won in Oswego since 2014. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. for the first game and approximately 3:00 p.m. for the 2nd game. Both games will be played at the Laker Baseball Field.

Oswego State women’s hockey wins in dominant fashion
OSWEGO N.Y. — A good ole fashion blowout. That’s what this game could be named. The Oswego State women’s hockey team faced off against the Buffalo State Bengals Wednesday night and held them scoreless. This dominant victory showcased just how impressive this Lakers team is. The Lakers now move to 12-7-1 on the season, and 9-4-1 in the SUNYAC Conference. This impressive five score victory was just what the Lakers needed to build more momentum moving forward. Some key contributors in this contest were freshman Ashlyn McGrath who led the Lakers with two goals on the night, as well as one assist. The freshman has proved this season that she’s here to stay and will be an integral part of this Lakers team for years to come. Sophomore Rachel Corbett also had an impressive performance with one goal and one assist. Sophomore Mia Conboy had a goal as well and was impressive throughout the contest. If this Lakers team continues to dominate, they will be very hard to stop in the coming weeks as the season heats up. The Lakers are set to have their senior night this Friday in the Deb Stan Arena. Men’s Basketball falls in overtime to Brockport
OSWEGO, NY — Men’s Basketball wrapped up their regular season this past Saturday as Brockport traveled into the Max Ziel Gymnasium. Number 25 Brockport would take this one 85-80 as the teams need extra time to decide a winner. The Golden Eagles would score 11 points in overtime to secure the victory. Liam Sanborn led the Lakers on Senior Day as he tallied 23 points in his 44 minutes played. Joe Sullivan tallied 16 points as he made 5 field goals and 5 free throws.
The Lakers will now start preparing for their first round playoff game in the SUNYAC Championship against Cortland. The Red Dragons and the Lakers split games this season as each team won against each other in their own gyms. Oswego is the four seed in the tournament and will be the home team in the match up. The game will be held at 7 p.m. in the Max Ziel Gym.
