OSWEGO — The Lakers defeated the Nazareth Golden Flyers in a quick three sets on Wednesday at the Max Ziel Gymnasium. The Golden Flyers came into the match 9-8 with a steady 3-1 away record. Lauren Fie and Julia Flohr led Oswego with two long serving runs that secured the first set. They would need to battle back in the other two sets to sweep Nazareth and improve to 14-6 overall. Shauna O’Flaherty, Senior, stood out with 13 kills and 2 blocks along with Lauren Fie’s 3 aces throughout the match. The team looks to take the recent success on the road for a 4-game road trip that starts with Plattsburgh this Friday. Oswego still has six matches SUNYAC games left before starting SUNYACS in early November.

Reynolds looks to lead the charge
OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State Field Hockey team has had a rough week of conference play, dropping conference games to Cortland on Tuesday and to Geneseo on Saturday. The Lakers are looking to turn it around with the help of senior forward Katie Reynolds who has been the team leader in goals scored this season.
Despite starting (1-2) in conference play, the Lakers have found an offensive spark thanks to Katie Reynolds who was recently named an Oswego State Athlete of the Week. She was awarded this based on her performances the week of Sept. 24. scoring a total of six goals in just two games. Reynolds scored two of the Lakers three goals in their (6-3) loss to Nazareth and a career-high of four goals in the win against Brockport.
“I mean when all four of those goals were scrambled in front of the cage, that is my time to shine,” said Reynolds. “If there is a scramble in front of the cage, I am going to do whatever it takes to get that ball in the back. But I could not have done it without the help of my midfield. The midfield did an awesome job taking the ball down and feeding it right to me.”
Reynolds finds herself having a very important position on the team being one of four seniors in comparison to the to the team’s twelve freshmen.
“It’s definitely a challenge because they overpower us,” Reynolds said. “There are twelve freshmen and there are only four seniors. “Having a strong leadership voice on the team is very important for us right now with such a young team.”

Oswego Men’s Lacrosse Takes on Brockport
OSWEGO, NY — The Oswego State Men’s Lacrosse team is set to make their 2021 season debut on Friday vs. SUNY Brockport. The Lakers have had their previous two games (vs Morrisville State and vs SUNY Oneonta) either postponed or canceled due to positive COVID-19 cases. This will be the first time the Men’s Lacrosse team has played a game since March of 2020 and their first time playing Brockport since April of 2019.
Oswego will be led by starting goalkeeper, Kevin O’Donnell, who will begin his senior season on Friday. O’Donnell, a four-year starter for the Lakers, is only 2 saves away from reaching 400 career saves. Once accomplished, he will become the first Oswego Men’s goalkeeper to surpass 400 saves since Wyatt Russo in 2016. Junior starting attackman, Weston Gray, will lead the Lakers offensively vs Brockport. Gray has totaled 26 goals the past two seasons, including 20 goals in 2019. This contest will be Brockport’s second game of the season as they fell to Alfred University in an 8-7 loss on March 20th. However, Friday’s game will be both teams’ first SUNYAC matchup of the season, making it more pivotal than ever to secure an early-season victory. The Oswego Men’s Lacrosse team is currently 9-10 against Brockport all time, but can even things up with a win on Friday. The game is set for a 4 p.m. face-off in Brockport. Oswego men’s basketball extends win streak to 12 games in historic night
GENESEO, N.Y. – The Lakers mens basketball team is on fire right now and they kept it rolling on Tuesday night when they matched up with the Geneseo Knights on the road. The Lakers took the momentum early on in the first half of play and held onto it for most of the first half before a late rally from the Knights. The Knights went on a 8-2 run in the final three minutes of the first half to cut the Lakers lead to only one leaving Oswego with a 33-32 score at the half. Jeremiah Sparks caused problems for the Knights in the first half shooting over 65% from the field, while shooting 75% from the three point line. Sparks led the Lakers with 15 points in the first half and with his 15th point scored Sparks joined an exclusive club at Oswego becoming the 19th ever Laker to record 1,000 career points in a career.
After letting the Knights come back in the last minutes of the first half, The Lakers got off to another great start in the second. Oswego jumped out to a twelve point lead over the Knights in only four minutes into the second half now leading 46-34. The Laker defense really stepped up causing the Knights to miss shots. Sparks would not cool down from the first half and after his three, the Lakers would lead 53-36, with Sparks having 26 points with 13 minutes still remaining in the game. The Knights couldn’t do enough to crawl back into the game as the Lakers kept attacking on both sides of the court.
Oswego ended up dropping 100 points on the Knights for a final of 100-62 and extending their winning streak to 12 games. Sparks led the team with 26 points in his historic night while going 10 for 13 from the field. The Lakers had three other players record double-digit points this evening. Cartier Bowman finished with ten points, as well as Achille Anderson, and Joey Rowback finished with 19 points, including five three pointers from beyond the arc,
The Lakers improve to 16-2,10-1 SUNYAC and Geneseo falls to 7-10,3-6 SUNYAC. The Lakers will return home on Friday, January 27th at 7:30 for their first home game of the new semester to take on the Plattsburgh Cardinals for their annual Coaches vs. Cancer weekend.
