
OSWEGO — The Lakers took the nationally ranked Oneonta to double OT when Witman Hernandez, leading scorer in SUNYAC, put the Red Dragons on top. In the 2-1 loss, Laker Jack Van Pelt got the lone goal off a free kick from sophomore Caleb Munski. Throughout play, Oswego defense blocked multiple Oneonta shots along with goalie Brian Terra’s five saves. The Lakers look to split the weekend with a game against New Paltz today. The team will honor their graduating class as this will be the regular season game at Laker Stadium.

Oswego men’s basketball starts 2022 with win

OSWEGO N.Y. — The Oswego State men’s basketball started 2022 where they left off in 2021, winning. They took on the Saint Lawrence Saints at home and won by a score of 74-60. The game started close, 8-7 Saints after four minutes with the Laker Kaleb Cook scoring all seven of their points. The following four minutes saw Oswego take the lead on a 10-0 run. Saint Lawrence would close the gap to 22-18 before a 9-1 run, spurred by Jeremiah Sparks‘s two threes, would extend the lead for the Lakers once more. Some back and forth between the teams saw them go into the half with the Lakers up 38-26. The Lakers shot 38% from the field and 10-12 from the free throw line in the half.
The second half started with another Laker run, 13-5, with threes from Devin Green and Sparks. St. Lawrence would respond with an 11-0 run, but Green closed the scoreless Lakers run with another three and the score would be 54-42. The lakers would use the rest of the second half to extend the lead back to twenty points, 72-52. The final three minutes saw the Lakers close the game out and have a final score of 74-60. This game was Devin Green‘s, he led the Lakers in four stat categories. He had twenty points, shooting 4-7 from three, eight rebounds, and a season high six assists and five steals. Kaleb Cook also had a good night with sixteen of his own points, a respectable 7-13 from the field. Jeremiah Sparks and Julien Crittendon had eleven points each as well. The team shot 42% from the field and 41% from deep while also being lights out at the free throw line, shooting 12-14. The team also out rebounded the Saints 38-22.
The Lakers next game comes on the road against Buffalo State, 4-8 (2-4 SUNYAC), on January 11 at 7:30. The Lakers currently sit at 10-1 (4-0 SUNYAC) and are on a seven game win streak. There are fourteen games left in the season for the Lakers, all games are in conference.

Oswego State men’s lacrosse rolls through Plattsburgh State

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Oswego State men’s lacrosse team traveled to North Country on Saturday to take on the Plattsburgh State Cardinals for a SUNYAC conference match up. Oswego State defeated the Cardinals by a score of 19-7 and improves to an overall record of 6-2 in the 2022 season. The Lakers are also 1-0 in conference play and are on the five game winning streak heading into another conference game on Tuesday.
Oswego State opened up the scoring in the first quarter which ended with a 6-0 lead for the Lakers. The Cardinals would tally three in the second quarter but Oswego State answered with another five goals. Ryan Eccles lead the offense with four goals and attacked Weston Gray tallied three goals and one assist. In the faceoff circle, Logan Prescott went 16 for 25 against the Cardinals.
In-between the pipes, starter Aiden Kenyon and back up Jeff Kinyoun combined for 7 goals against and 12 saves. Kenyon would pick up the win after playing over 50 minutes in net and Kinyoun taking over to finish up the contest. The tandem from Plattsburgh combined for 19 goals against and 14 total saves.
Oswego State turns their attention to SUNY Potsdam Tuesday afternoon at Laker Turf Stadium. The Lakers are on a four game win streak against the Bears and have an overall record of 26-15-0 against the SUNY Potsdam program. These two teams played back on April 10th, 2019 at SUNY Potsdam and the Lakers took the win 11-9. The game is set to start at 4:00 p.m. on SUNY Oswego’s campus as the Lakers look to stay undefeated in conference play so far this season.

Oswego State baseball DOMINATES this weekend

WINCHESTER, V.A. — The Oswego State baseball team took a road trip to play in three contests in Virginia this weekend. The first game against Keystone was an absolute massacre as Oswego poured on twenty-seven runs by the end of the contest. The Lakers managed to score in every inning besides the fourth, and managed to ball out with twenty-three hits throughout the game. The most notable performance of this game was from senior Ryan Enos who shattered program records by cranking three homers, six total hits and five runs. A performance highly unlikely to be matched anytime soon. Graduate Student Lukas Olsson also scored five runs this game. Senior Leadoff batter Paul Tammaro proved why he has that role as he three for four with four runs scored as he had his first homerun of the season. Additionally Tammaro had 3 RBI’s. Center fielder Kyle Lauria scored 3 runs on the night in another impressive showing. Everyone got a chance to eat in this contest as this was the definition of a statement victory. The final score was 27-14. The Lakers would then take on Shenandoah University.
The Lakers had another dominant victory against Shenandoah University with the final score being 9-2. Senior Paul Tammaro was an absolute monster in this game hitting two homers in his first two at bats contributing to the Lakers early three run lead. Shenandoah did manage to score two runs, but the contest was never close. Graduate Student Ryan Weiss went 2-5, however both his were RBI’s giving Oswego some breathing room. Freshman Tishawn Featherstone and senior Ryan Enos both had RBI’s to seal this contest. On the mound, senior Kieran Finnegan had a fantastic day with ten total strikeouts. He managed to only let in two runs in six innings. The Lakers would face Shenandoah again the following day.
The Lakers completed the weekend sweep against Shenandoah. Sundays contest was much closer than the first encounter with a final score of 10-8. Similar to the last game Oswego went up early scoring four runs in the first two innings. Graduate student Lukas Olsson was a huge name in todays performance hitting 3 RBI’s. Per usual senior Ryan Enos had a day scoring two runs as well as an RBI. Other notable performances include graduate student Kyle Lauria who scored his first homer of the season as well as two RBI. Paul Tammaro also had himself a day with one run and an overall impressive performance. Shenandoah gave the Lakers a run for their money, however the Lakers stayed calm under pressure and got the job done, completing the weekend sweep. The Lakers take this momentum into next week as they play seven games in Florida. The first contest is against Ramapo College March 13th at 10:30am.
