OSWEGO — Men’s Soccer hosted SUNY New Paltz Saturday afternoon featuring a senior day celebration. The Lakers would overcome the Hawks with a late tally from senior Anthony Paris to add to his Senior Day. His 2nd goal of the season came with eight minutes left in the match. The 2-1 victory would be their third SUNYAC victory of the season. Kyle Scalzo would be the other Laker to score, as he deflected a shot from Kieran Gilroy in the first half. The team is set to finish the regular season on the road for four conference games before the start of the SUNYAC tournament. The Lakers are currently holding the fourth seed down but are looking to move up in the standings by the end of the season.

Women’s Lacrosse falls to Clarkson
OSWEGO, NY — Women’s Lacrosse faced off against Clarkson Wednesday afternoon at Laker Stadium for a non-conference match up. The Lakers fell 9-5 to the Knights as Clarkson was ahead 4-1 heading into halftime. The Lakers would try to rally in the second half as the team netted four goals but that did not compare to Clarkson’s five goals that helped lead the team to victory. The Lakers were led by Montana Garrett as the senior netted her 100th career collegiate goal and two other goals for the hattrick. Molly Beck also tallied two goals for Oswego. Netminder Elianna Sanchez would make seven saves in the lost.
The Lakers are currently 1-2 as the team lost to William Smith back on February 29th in Geneva but won their home opener against Morrisville. Oswego now gets set to travel to Williamsport, Pennsylvania to play Lycoming for another non-conference match up. Their first SUNYAC match up will not be till March 21st when Fredonia travels to Laker Stadium. Saturday’s match up will begin at noon.

Oswego State men’s soccer team advances to SUNYAC tournament semi-finals
OSWEGO N.Y. — The Oswego State men’s soccer team (#6) defeated the Oneonta Red Dragons (#3) in a 2-1 shootout on Saturday, advancing to the SUNYAC semi-finals. This was the Lakers first win against Oneonta since 1965, ending a 56-year drought.
After falling to Oneonta on senior day just seven days prior, Oswego bounced back on an even bigger stage, earning the team’s first SUNYAC tournament win in Coach Dan Kane’s tenure there. It was a competitive bout from start to finish with Oneonta striking first in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The score would remain the same until the 64th minute after freshman midfielder Hajoon Lee scored off a pass from Kieran Gilroy. However, that would be the final goal of the game as neither team could find the back of the net throughout the rest of regulation and both overtime periods, forcing a shootout.
Through the first four rounds of the shootout, each player on both teams scored on their attempt. Though in the final round, Oneonta’s Malcom Swett hit the crossbar while sophomore defenseman Brendan Murphy made his attempt. In a match that took more than 110 minutes to declare a winner, the Lakers were able to edge the Red Dragons in a shootout, 5-4.
With their first-round victory, Oswego State will now travel to New Paltz to take on the Hawks in the SUNYAC semi-finals on Wednesday, Nov. 3rd. This will be the second time these two teams have met this season with the first game resulting in a 2-1 New Paltz victory on Oct. 22nd. Oswego will look to bounce back in the same way they did against Oneonta in hopes of advancing to the SUNYAC Championship final. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.

Women’s Hockey Preview versus Plattsburgh
OSWEGO, NY — Women’s Hockey continues NEWHL game play Wednesday night as the Lakers welcome in the #1 Plattsburgh Cardinals. The Cardinals sit at 14-1 and are currently undefeated in conference play as the Lakers trail only 7 points back in second place. Plattsburgh is coming off two NEWHL wins at home after defeating Morrisville and Buffalo State by pretty hefty margins. The goalie tandem of Chloe Beaubien and Ashley Davis only allowed one goal that weekend as Davis posted a shutout against Buffalo State.
Oswego recently had their own NEWHL success after posting a victory in their first conference game in over a month. A 4-3 win in Morrisville allowed Oswego to enlarge their gaps between Cortland and the Mustangs to secure their position in second. Senior Eryn Stewart came up big for Oswego, as she contributed with a goal and an assist in the contest. The forward currently sits with 5 goals and 12 assists good for 17 points through 13 games played.
Last time these teams battled was back towards the start of the season as Oswego traveled to the Cardinals for a Friday and Saturday match up. The Lakers would fall 1-7 and 0-3 that weekend with the lone Oswego goal coming from Avery Webster to spoil the shutout. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. from the Marano Campus Center.
