OSWEGO — Men’s Hockey starts their 55th hockey season this Saturday with their annual Teal Night game against Carleton Place. The Lakers look to start their season at Marano Campus Center after their 10-day trip overseas this past August. The Lakers swept their European competitors in their first ever trip over the pond. Oswego was ranked 3rd overall in the SUNYAC preseason poll behind rival Geneseo, who beat them last season in the SUNYAC Championship. New Laker captain Josh Zizek is looking to have another outstanding year after he recorded 25 points his junior year. This match up will be the first of two exhibition games for the team before their first regular season game against SUNY Cortland. Oswego hockey fans can purchase tickets online or at the box office. Kobayashi and Marshall named Athletes of the Week
OSWEGO — The Oswego State Athletics Department has named Haru Kobayashi and Corey Marshall Athletes of the Week. During the team’s contest against Fredonia, Kobayashi won a nail-biter during her doubles match. She continued her winning ways against Brockport as she earned her team a match point in singles and claimed an easy (8-1) victory in doubles. On the golf course, Marshall collected medalist honors during the Oswego State Invitational. His score of 128 helped lead the Lakers to their first place finish.

Oswego State Baseball Continues Dominance Against Fredonia
OSWEGO, N.Y. — Oswego State Baseball continues to remain hot in the SUNYAC West with a sweep over the Fredonia Blue Devils. The Blue Devils came into the port city looking for their first SUNYAC win of the season and were left short. Oswego State would sweep the Blue Devils with scores of 17-6 and 9-2 and improved to 11-1 in the division.
The Lakers were led in game one by Dylan Frawley who was 3-4 at the plate and had four runs scored as well as a pair of RBI’s. Blue Devils pitching was not up to par with the Lakers hitting as Oswego was able to get 13 hits in the first game alone as well as drawing 12 walks with senior first baseman Ryan Weiss being the team leader with three of them. As for the second matchup, the Lakers were kept at bay for the first two innings but then erupted with 4 runs in the third then two runs in their last two innings . Fredonia’s only runs were scored in the fourth inning at that point it was already 4-0 Lakers. Oswego was led this game by 2nd baseman Ryan Enos who led the team in runs with three. Kieran Finnegan was able to carry the pitching for most of the game pitching 6 of the 7 innings with striking out 6 to remain unbeaten at 4-0 on the year.
The Lakers now move to 17-1 on the season as well as 11-1 in the division, Fredonia now falls to 3-12 on the season and 0-12 in the SUNYAC West. The Lakers now have a chance to make history as they are two wins away from setting the program record for consecutive wins at 18 that was set back in 1982. Oswego will attempt to achieve this with a double header vs Clarkson University on Tuesday May 4th at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Oswego already swept the Golden Knights once this season and have won their last 7 as well. As for Fredonia they look to find their first SUNYAC victory since 2019 with a double header matchup against the Brockport Golden Eagles on May 5th starting at 1:00 p.m.

Oswego State baseball team returns to action against Salisbury
OSWEGO N.Y. — The Oswego Baseball team made their return over the week on with three contests. They faced off in two games Saturday against the nationally ranked Salisbury. These two contests were wildly different in outcomes. Their first game of the season was a rough one, with oswego giving up fifteen runs in a 15-2 loss. The Lakers scored a run in the first inning when graduate student Kyle Lauria stole second, leading to senior Ryan Enos putting the Lakers on the board. It was all downhill from there as the Lakers were only able to score one more run in the third inning when Ryan Enos scored his second run of the day.
The second matchup ended with a much better outcome for the Lakers as they found a way to come out with the victory. It was another rocky start for the Lakers as they were down by two runs after the first three innings. The Lakers were not even close to finished as they had a score to settle with Salisbury. A double by senior Julian Drew gave the Lakers a golden opportunity to get on the board. After a pitch sailed past the catcher the Lakers were able to cut the lead down to one. Another score at the top od the sixth by senior Ryan Weiss tied the game up at two a piece. Weiss had a dominant performance in this game, and came in clutch in the top of the ninth inning. Weiss had a base hit that set up senior Ryan Enos for a crunch time run, giving the Lakers a 3-2 lead. Pitcher Ben Wilcox would seal Salisbury’s fate in the bottom of the ninth. The Lakers would have the rubber match Sunday afternoon.
The Lakers battled it out in a hard fought game Sunday, but ultimately came out on the losing end. Despite being right in it until the very end, they ultimately lost 6-5. Oswego was on the board first at the top of the third when sophomore Brian Brezosky scored after a single that got him to the plate. The fifth inning was action packed as the Lakers scored 3 runs to give them a 4-1 lead. Salisbury answered right back though, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Later in the top of the seventh, Kyle Lauria would score his second run of the day after capitalizing on a botched pitch. Unfortunately this would be the Lakers last run of the contest as Salisbury went on to score a run in the bottom of the seventh, eighth, and ninth inning to seal their one run victory. Oswego walked out with one win this weekend but showed signs of greatness after going against top ranked Salisbury. The Lakers take a trip to Virginia to face Shenandoah University this Saturday and Sunday. Time is TBD.
