OSWEGO — Women’s Hockey returns home from a four-game road trip to play the Buffalo State Bengals which resulted in a 6-2 win to move the team to an overall record of 3-2. The Lakers were carried by Amber Thomas (2G and 3A) and Eryn Stewart (4A) offensive production that led to Oswego scoring five unanswered goals in the second and third period. The Bengals would get their second goal past Rachael Farmer as Tristin Stetson would sneak one back door towards the end of the third period. Farmer would finish with 26 saves to win her 50th career game for Oswego. The Lakers continue NEWHL play Saturday afternoon against SUNY Cortland who took a 3-2 lost to Morrisville tonight. The match up on Saturday will be Oswego’s annual United Way Food/Toy Drive that will begin at 3 p.m. in the Marano Campus Center. WTOP 10 will begin coverage at 2:30 p.m. for a pregame show before the slate.

Lakers field hockey wins season finale
OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego state field hockey team won their regular season finale over Morrisville on the Laker turf Wednesday. Oswego started out the contest strong offensively starting with a Kacie Simzer goal just over 2 minutes into the contest. The Lakers would receive several penalty corners following the goal in the first quarter. Oswego kept their foot on the gas through the rest of the first and had 7 shots in the first half compared to the mustangs 0. Kacie Simzer would quickly strike again for the Lakers, just over 2 minutes into the second quarter assisted by Megan Delaney. Oswego was able to keep the pressure on with several penalty corners. That eventually led to another goal at the 28 minute mark from Kacie Simzer who would get a hat trick on the day, recording her third goal of the afternoon with an assist from Kate Mcnally. Following another corner for the Lakers, Kate Mcnally was able to get one of her own scoring the fourth goal for the Lakers right before the end of the first half. The Lakers closed out the first half with a dominant performance, getting 20 shots off against the Mustangs. Oswego had 13 corners in the first half of play which allowed Oswego to hold a 4-0 lead at the half.Oswego would continue their high scoring affair through the start of the third quarter, adding another goa just 4 minutes into play by Kaitlyn Ahle assisted by Nancy Pagliaroli. The Lakers controlled the third quarter continuing to allow no opportunities for the Mustangs. Kaitlyn Mastracco was able to get in on the action and she scored the sixth goal on the day for the Lakers, scoring just over 3 minutes into the fourth quarter. Kacie Simzer would continue her great day recording her fourth goal of the afternoon with just under 10 minutes remaining in play. Simzer tied her career high for goals, and also tied the school record yet again. Oswego would finish the contest allowing 0 shots against Erica Scheblein and attempting 34 shots on offense.
The Lakers finished off their season with an 8-8 record, and also recorded their first SUNYAC win, giving them a 1-5 conference record on the year. Heather Moore finishes her final game as the Lakers coach with a win in a position she held for 6 seasons

Oswego Hockey improves to four game winning streak
OSWEGO, NY — Men’s Hockey secured another victory on Saturday as the Lakers defeated the Fredonia Blue Devils 4-1. Carter Allen scored the first and only goal in the first period. The Blue Devils would answer in the 2nd period but it would be all Oswego in the third period as captain Josh Zizek scored two goals. Senior David Richer was back in between the pipes for the Lakers and he recorded the win. This victory puts Oswego on a four game win streak.
This was the last regular season game for the Lakers as the team head into the SUNYAC playoffs. The group will host an opponent that will be decided Wednesday night. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. in the Marano Campus Center.

Lakers Wrangle Mustangs in Dominant Offensive Performance
MORRISVILLE, NY- The Lakers winning streak to start the season continues at three in a row after wrangling the Morrisville Mustangs 21-5.The first half was an offensive show for the Lakers as the Lakers scored 15 points in the first half. It didn’t take very long at all for the Lakers to score as they scored 47 seconds into the game as Isabella Lembo scored unassisted. Madison Davis and Isabella Lembo would both score two goals in the first quarter. The Mustangs turned the ball over five times in the first quarter and four out of the five times led to a goal for the Lakers. The Lakers led 8-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was just as a dominant of a performance for the Lakers as the first quarter. Sela Wiley would score her second goal of the game with 13:48 in the second quarter. Freshman Noelle Smith would score her third goal of the season 32 seconds later. Madison Davis would then score her third goal of the game to put the Lakers up 11-0. The Lakers would end the second quarter with Madison Davis scoring goal number four of the game and Shae McConnell scoring her second goal of the game. Both goals would come after Morrisville penalties. The Lakers would lead 15-0 at halftime.
The second half saw the Lakers continue their domination of the Mustangs. Shae McConnell opened the third quarter with her third goal of the game. With 12:54 in the third quarter, the Mustangs would finally get on the board as Alana McDonald would score her fourth goal of the season. Julia Quirk would then score back-to-back goals for the Lakers to put the Lakers up 18-1. Sela Wiley with 6:04 left in the second quarter scored her fourth goal of the game as both Madison Davis and Sela Wiley had four goals for the game. A foul on Sofia Mangino led to Aria Treadway scoring her third goal of the season but the game was out of reach for the Mustangs.
The Lakers dominance cooled down in the fourth quarter as they only scored two goals. Ashley Casserly scored her second goal of the season to put the Lakers up 20-3. Alexis Hill would then score the final goal of the game with 26 seconds left as she scored her first goal as a Laker. The Lakers would win 21-5 over the Mustangs in their best offensive outing of the season. Madison Davis would have her third game of the season where she would score four or more goals in a game. The Lakers are out to their best start of the season since the shortened 2021 lacrosse season where they finished 4-5 and where they opened their season against Morrisville winning 20-14. With the way the Lakers are performing right now, they are on pace for their best season since the 2019 lacrosse season where they finished 11-5 and where their season that year ended with a 18-5 loss to Geneseo in the SUNYAC Outdoor Championship.
The Lakers travel to Rochester to take on St. John Fisher College on Wednesday, March 15th at Growney Stadium. The Cardinals sit at 2-1 on the season after a 11-9 win over Colorado College after playing two games at Colorado College last week. The Cardinals lost their first game of the season in their first game last Wednesday at Colorado College losing 9-7 to Messiah University a team who currently sits a 4-1 on the season. The Lakers have not beaten St. John Fisher in almost 17 years as their last win against them came in the 2006 lacrosse season. The Lakers last played St. John Fisher last season and lost 11-4. The Lakers look for win number four and a 4-1 start to a season since 2019.
