OSWEGO, NY — In the first weekend of the new decade, Men’s Hockey welcomes in three out of conference teams to the 2020 Pathfinder Bank/Oswego State Hockey Classic. The 14th edition of the four team tournament is set to begin this Friday as the Lakers look to defend the title. This year, the competition is set to feature three nationally ranked programs, #9 University of New England, #10 Oswego, #14 Williams College, along with Saint Mary’s University traveling in from Minnesota. The Lakers, who currently sit atop the SUNYAC conference with an overall record of 7-3, will face the Saint Mary’s Cardinals at 7 p.m. on Friday in the semifinal round. The 3-5-1 Cardinals look to build on their win over Gustavus Adolphus College back on December 7th, while Oswego looks to bring home some recent success that was found on the road. #9 University of New England and #14 Williams college will face off before hand at 4 p.m. which will feature an offensive talented group from UNE against the defensive Ephs of Williams college. Laker Field Hockey drops game to defending SUNYAC Champions New Paltz
OSWEGO — Field Hockey hosted the defending SUNYAC Champions, New Paltz, this past Saturday. The Lakers hold the Hawks to a 2-1 score up till halftime. Once the 3rd period begins, New Paltz began to turn on the heat and netted four more goals by the end of the tilt. The lone Oswego goal, scored by Alyssa DeMichael, was a deflection from a shot sent in by Abby Testo. The ladies look to bounce back as they travel to Oneonta on Saturday Oct. 5th for another SUNYAC battle.

Oswego State baseball hits this weekend out of the park
ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Oswego Lakers baseball team had quite the impressive weekend in they’re three games played. Saturday the Lakers had a double header where they sweeped SUNY Oneonta in impressive fashion. The first matchup was a 8-0 shutout with the Lakers having an answer for everything Oneonta threw their way. Senior Paul Tammaro led the charge with two runs scored on the day with two RBIs. Ryan Enos also had two runs on the day in a performance that is far from unexpected. Enos has proved to be an integral part of this Laker team. Pure domination is the only way to describe this game as Oneonta could get absolutely nothing going in this contest. Pitcher Jakob Sanders had six strikeouts on the day and only gave up one hit.The next game was much of the same as this time only one run was scored for Oneonta, making the final score 7-1. Tammaro lead the large again in this contest as he was the lead scorer with two runs and two RBIs. Enos also had a run with two RBIs in this game. The Lakers weren’t able to get much going until late in the contest. Going into the top of the seventh, the score was 2-1 with the lakers sitting on a one point lead. They went on to score five runs in the seventh sealing this contest. They would then have one more contest with Oneonta the following day.
With Oneonta out for blood, this contest was much closer than the previous two. A slow start for the Lakers resulted in Oneonta having a three run lead early in the contest. The following inning the Lakers put up two runs when senior Ryan Weiss hit a two run homer that couldn’t have been more clutch. With the momentum back with the Lakers they began to fight 6-1 run the rest of the contest, resulting in a 8-6 victory. Weiss was the star player with three runs total and a homer on the day. The Lakers look to take this momentum into next week as they face Clarkson University at home this Tuesday in a double header. Games start at 2pm and 5pm. Catch it live on WTOP10!

Lakers Field hockey battles in tough game on senior day
OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Lakers faced off against the Brockport Golden Eagles in a SUNYAC matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers honored 6 seniors on Saturday including midfielder Megan Delaney, defender Kaitlyn Mastracco, defender Holly Carr, forward Kaitlyn Ahle, Midfielder Kacie Simzer and senior goalkeeper Erica Scheblein. The Lakers started off the game with a strong drive offensively and managed to get a penalty corner in the first 40 seconds of play but they were not able to capitalize. Both teams would remain pretty quiet for the next few minutes, but around the ten minute mark Brockport would pick things up offensively, getting seven shots off in the final five minutes of the first quarter. This would ultimately pay off for the Golden Eagles as Paige Thowe would sneak one past Scheblein on the left side of the goal for a 1-0 lead with 3 minutes left in the first.
Oswego would come out with another strong offensive push to start the second quarter, getting another penalty corner less than a minute into play. But Taylin Bauer missed her attempted wide and Kacie Simzer would miss her attempt wide a couple minutes later. The Lakers would have other chances to tie the match at one but were unable to capitalize on opportunities keeping the score at 1-0 going into halftime. Oswego would have only four shots in the first half, only one landing on goal while the Golden Eagles would have 11 shots, and eight on goal. Oswego was more on the offensive attack in third quarter beating Brockport 4-2 in shots on goal.The Lakers had some close chances, with two out of the four shots bouncing off of the crossbar and barely missing the goal.
Brockport’s goalie would be injured on a diving save late in the third, forcing her to exit the game and Brockport having to bring in a freshman goalkeeper. Fortunately, she was able to return at the start of the fourth and played the remainder of the game The Lakers had a few opportunities to tie the gamelate into the fourth off penalty corners and Kaitlyn Mastraco would come the closest but had her shot saved twice by Brockport’s goalie. The Lakers were not able to regroup and would fall 1-0 to Brockport
With 2 games left the Lakers are now 7-7(0-4 SUNYAC) and sit in 7th place in the SUNYAC. The Lakers will now head to Geneseo on October 22nd for a conference matchup against the Knights.
