OSWEGO, NY — #15 Men’s Hockey welcomed in #7 Utica College Friday night for another nationally ranked match up, which is the second in as many games for the Lakers. The Pioneers would win 4-3 in a tight match up which featured freshman Alex DiCarlo tallying two assists and captain Josh Zizek tying the game halfway through the third period. Senior Cedric Hansen would give up the go ahead goal but played strong after reliving starter David Richer in the first stanza of the second period. This is Oswego’s fourth lost to nationally ranked opponents as the move forward with an overall record of 7-6. The Lakers are set to play the Elmira College at 7 p.m. in the Marano Campus Center.

Oswego State Men’s Lacrosse Team Prepares For Season Finale
OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego Men’s Lacrosse team is set to play their final game of the 2021 season as they take on the Cortland Red Dragons on Friday, April 30th. This is the second matchup between the two teams this year, with the previous game ending in a 16-7 Cortland victory on April 9th. The 4 p.m. match up will take place in Cortland as the Red Dragons look to take the number one seed in the SUNYAC West.

Oswego is going into Friday’s contest on a 6-game losing streak including a 20-6 loss to the Geneseo Knights last week. In fact, the Lakers haven’t won a game since March 7th of 2020, their second-to-last game before the season was cancelled. The Red Dragons, however, have been dominant all season and are currently on a 5-game win streak. The Lakers need to generate enough offense to keep pace with Cortland’s explosive duo of Dante Yacavone and Zak Jones, who have 67 combined points this season. Oswego will be lead by junior attackman, Weston Gray, who leads the team in goals. The Lakers have also gotten solid production out of freshman midfielder, Lucas Cioch, who leads the team in assists and total points.
Unfortunately, history isn’t on the Lakers’ side in this matchup. The Oswego Men’s Lacrosse team is 0-37 versus Cortland all-time and will have to get their first ever win against the Red Dragons in order to avoid a winless season. Faceoff is set for 4:00 p.m. at Cortland.

Oswego Men’s Soccer Falls 2-0 to Rochester
Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State Lakers welcomed the University of Rochester Yellowjackets to Laker Turf on Wednesday, as they sought to pick up their first win of the season. The Lakers faced a roadblock early on, though, as a lower-body injury to sharpshooter Tajay Ellis would render him unavailable for the rest of the contest, which proved to be critical in the end result.
The Lakers imposed an aggressive style of defense in the early stages, and it all but worked until the 33rd minute, when Kol Bassuk of the Yellowjackets connected on a strike to give his squad a 1-0 lead.
The Yellowjackets presented an even peskier style of defense, as they allowed just one shot from the Lakers through the first 45 minutes of play, denying any potential momentum that their opponent tried to conjure up.
Things became even more grim for the Lakers in the second half, as the backend struggled to protect keeper Max Mahlke, while no will was yet to be had on the offensive side of things. The Yellowjackets would eventually strike again, when Jasper Danielian found the back of the net in the 59th minute to further the margin to 2-0 in the Yellowjackets’ favor.
Max Mahlke played to the best of his abilities, but was ultimately dealt a tough deck of cards, as he faced 13 shots and saved five. The Lakers move to 0-2-2 after this result, and will hope to tack on their first win of the season in their next matchup, when they travel to Troy, N.Y. to take on the RPI Engineers.
