OSWEGO, NY — SUNY Oswego sports teams will have to conclude their seasons early due to the cancellation of NCAA spring sports. This comes after the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus that has been affecting sport leagues and events all over the United States and the world. Four teams from the college will have to call their season short after three out of the four teams began their 2020 season. Softball was the only Oswego team out of both Lacrosse teams and the Baseball team ,who has been on the road for their season so far, to not start their 2020 campaign. Men’s Lacrosse started off 3-1 as the group got three wins right off the bat before falling to Clarkson last week. Women’s Lacrosse finished at 2-2 as the group went 1-1 at home and then headed on the road for a 19-2 victory against Lycoming.
Besides these four sports teams, many other individuals are affected due to winter sports having individual championships for sports like track and field. Some Oswego student-athletes were competing for individual championships. The big question moving forward will be based around eligibility for athletes for next season. The NCAA has to decide if seniors would be allowed to play for their team next season. WTOP 10 will have updates on Oswego athletics once sports resume.

Oswego womens soccer continues to dominate with win over Potsdam
OSWEGO, N.Y. – It was another day at the office for the Lakers as they tool it to the Potsdam Bears from start to finish. The Lakers came out swinging early and did not take their foot off the gas the whole game. Freshman Briana Winkler put the Lakers on the board early as she has made a huge impact on the team in her first year as a Laker. From there it was a bit of a back and forth battle until the end of the half. The second half is where things picked up for the Lakers as Katie Delgrosso put the Lakers up 2-0. With five goals on the season already, Delgrosso has been on an absolute tear. Potsdam just couldn’t do anything to halt the Lakers momentum as Lexi Thompson scored the third and final goal of the game for the Lakers, putting the contest away. The Lakers outshot the Bears 17-6 putting on an offensive clinic. The Lakers look to keep the hot streak rolling as they travel to Geneseo to take on the nights in a SUNYAC matchup this Wednesday. Women’s soccer goes third straight game without win
OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State Women’s soccer team travelled to Clinton, N.Y. to take on Hamilton college on Tuesday. Even though the Lakers took the first shot the Continentals held most of the possession. As the clock ticked into the thirteenth minute, the Continentals scored the first goal of the game. Hamilton only kept going from there, having 15 straight shots to finish out the half, but non found the back of the net.
Just six minutes into the half, Hamilton struck again, doubling their lead. In the 60th minute, Oswego started pressuring Hamilton. Chances in the 61st and 63rd minute wouldn’t find home. Unfortunately for the Lakers, the Continentals struck twice in succession, in the 68th and 71st minutes. The Lakers would pull one back late in the contest, Briana Winkler scored in the 81st minute, assisted by Gabriella Martinez. The game ended with a score 4-1. Hamilton completely outshot Oswego 37-8, also winning shots on goal 14-8. Oswego Goalkeeper Perri Anderson had 10 saves in the game.
The Lakers fall to 3-2-1 on the season, after starting 3-0-0. Their next game is on Saturday September, 17 against Clarkson University at the Laker Turf Stadium.

Broughman and Lakers defeat Cortland
OSWEGO — The Oswego Men’s Hockey team secured their first regular season and SUNYAC win of the year topping Cortland by a score of 4-2. The headliner was the SUNYAC rookie of the week Travis Broughman. Broughman was able to find the back of the net twice while also recording an assist on Tanner Spink’s goal. The forward currently ranks the team in points with three and is looking to move his way up in the lines. Broughman and the No. 6 ranked Lakers travel to Canton for a meeting with the Kangaroos this Friday followed by a meeting with No. 5 ranked Hobart back at the Marano Campus Center Arena for Military Appreciation Night on Saturday.
