OSWEGO N.Y. — The Oswego State women’s basketball team hosted SUNY Cortland in a hard fought SUNYAC opener last night. The 3-3-1 Lakers looked to pick up momentum after a dominant win Sunday night. Despite a valiant effort, the Lakers came up short. With a final score of 67-53 the Lakers continued to fight until the final buzzer. Cortland had a twelve point lead at the end of the first quarter that unfortunately set the tone for the rest of the game. The Lakers put up a fight and kept the game close. Senior Danielle Caivana was on fire scoring a whopping twenty-three points this game. Despite Caivana’s outstanding performance, Cortland refused to let up and fought their way to victory. Sophomores Chastin Giles and Caitie Lilly were the other key contributors for the Lakers. While this loss must have stung for the Lakers, they turn their attention towards another SUNYAC matchup against the Buffalo State Bengals December 3rd in the Max Zeil Gymnasium. Oswego baseball shines against St. John Fisher
OSWEGO, N.Y. – The boys went to work Tuesday in a battle against St. John Fisher. Ultimately the Lakers were more hungry for the win and came out on top. They had the momentum early on and were able to maintain this momentum throughout the game. The Lakers went up by four runs after sophomore Jacob Levine hit one out of the park resulting in a three run homer. Levine had himself a day with a homer and four RBI’s. St. John Fisher would score six unanswered runs in two innings, ultimately taking a one run lead going into the bottom of the seventh. The Lakers were not going to let off the gas however as they answered right back with two runs after Lukas Olsson scored a two run homer to give the Lakers the momentum. Another three runs sealed the deal for the Lakers as they walked out with an 10-8 victory. The Lakers go on the road Friday to take on Fredonia in their final regular season series. Men’s Basketball falls in overtime to Brockport
OSWEGO, NY — Men’s Basketball wrapped up their regular season this past Saturday as Brockport traveled into the Max Ziel Gymnasium. Number 25 Brockport would take this one 85-80 as the teams need extra time to decide a winner. The Golden Eagles would score 11 points in overtime to secure the victory. Liam Sanborn led the Lakers on Senior Day as he tallied 23 points in his 44 minutes played. Joe Sullivan tallied 16 points as he made 5 field goals and 5 free throws.
The Lakers will now start preparing for their first round playoff game in the SUNYAC Championship against Cortland. The Red Dragons and the Lakers split games this season as each team won against each other in their own gyms. Oswego is the four seed in the tournament and will be the home team in the match up. The game will be held at 7 p.m. in the Max Ziel Gym.

Oswego women’s basketball suffers two losses despite impressive performances
OSWEGO N.Y. — It was a rough weekend for the Oswego State women’s basketball team as they were unable to find success in their two games played. The Lakers took on Potsdam in a SUNYAC matchup Friday night as they were looking to get back in the win column. The Lakers started off strong taking the early lead after the first quarter. Senior Danielle Caivana was on fire the whole game, dropping twenty-one points, nine from the three point line. She was pure money as she did everything she could to help her team and try to come out with the win. After the first quarter things got a little rocky for the Lakers as they lost their lead and couldn’t bounce back to come out with the win. Potsdam was firing on all cylinders despite the Lakers putting up a fight. Oswego State looked to put this fourteen point loss behind them as they hosted SUNY Plattsburgh in an important matchup the following day.
The Lakers had another SUNYAC matchup Saturday night against Plattsburgh. This game was a fight to the finish with both teams fighting desperately to come out on top. The Lakers were up by one at the end of the first. With a combination of lockdown defense and a good offensive performance, the Lakers were here to win. Yet again, Danielle Caivana had a stellar performance dropping a whopping twenty-two points this game to out do her performance from Friday. Caivana has had an incredible senior year and continues to prove how she is a crucial part of Oswego’s offense. Additionally, freshman Shania Iglesias had a great performance with nine points. At the end of the half Plattsburgh was able to take the lead, going up by four. The Lakers were not out of this game as they outscored Plattsburgh in the third, making it a three point game. Despite a valiant effort to come out with the victory, the Lakers ultimately came out on the losing end. The final score was sixty to fifty three. The Lakers go on the road to take on Buffalo State Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.!
