OSWEGO N.Y. — The Oswego State women’s basketball team hosted SUNY Cortland in a hard fought SUNYAC opener last night. The 3-3-1 Lakers looked to pick up momentum after a dominant win Sunday night. Despite a valiant effort, the Lakers came up short. With a final score of 67-53 the Lakers continued to fight until the final buzzer. Cortland had a twelve point lead at the end of the first quarter that unfortunately set the tone for the rest of the game. The Lakers put up a fight and kept the game close. Senior Danielle Caivana was on fire scoring a whopping twenty-three points this game. Despite Caivana’s outstanding performance, Cortland refused to let up and fought their way to victory. Sophomores Chastin Giles and Caitie Lilly were the other key contributors for the Lakers. While this loss must have stung for the Lakers, they turn their attention towards another SUNYAC matchup against the Buffalo State Bengals December 3rd in the Max Zeil Gymnasium. Oswego State Baseball Travels to Fredonia for SUNYAC Doubleheader
OSWEGO, N.Y. — Oswego State Baseball returns after a brief COVID pause which resulted in the cancellation of the home doubleheader on Sunday, April 18th against Trinity College. Oswego returns Tuesday, April 20th for a 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at Fredonia, for a SUNYAC West matchup. Oswego comes into Tuesday’s games with a 9-1 record (5-1 SUNYAC) and the Lakers are in second place out of the three SUNYAC West teams. The Lakers are also on an 8-game win streak heading into the conference doubleheader. Fredonia currently sits in last place in the SUNYAC West, with a record of 1-8 (0-8 SUNYAC).
The Lakers and the Blue Devils have met in two games this season, a doubleheader in Oswego on April 10th. Oswego dominated both of those games by scores of 17-3 and 15-6. Kyle Lauria was 5-7 that day, to go with 7 RBIs, a triple, home run, and 3 runs, which helped him win SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week. Ryan Enos hit well against Fredonia as well, going 6-8 with 2 doubles, 7 RBIs, and 6 runs.
On the season, the Oswego offense has been nothing short of amazing as they are averaging 11.6 runs per game. Enos leads the Lakers in average and RBIs with a .500 average paired with 20 RBIs. Lauria is hitting .432 with 17 RBIs, a triple and a home run on the year. Oswego features two more hitters hitting .400 or above, in Paul Tammaro at .432 and Ryan Weiss who is hitting exactly .400. Look for the Laker bats to put up a lump sum of runs on Tuesday in both games.
Fredonia’s leading hitter is Ryan Hann who is leading the Blue Devils in batting average at .385, and RBIs with 8. Tyler Phillips was Fredonia’s best hitter against the Lakers back on April 10th, Phillips was 3-7 with 2 runs against the Lakers, as the Oswego pitching staff shut down the Fredonia bats in both games.
Oswego baseball takes the field Tuesday, April 20th at Fredonia, with games scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. This is a key matchup as the Lakers chase Brockport in the SUNYAC West standings. Bender, Spence, and Kobayashi finish strong in win over Utica
OSWEGO — The Oswego State Women’s Tennis Team finishes the season with a victory over the Utica Pioneers by a score of (9-0). The Lakers finish the season with a (4-7) record. Bridget Bender, Samantha Spence, and Hoya Kobayashi all blanked their opponents in singles matches for the Lakers. Oswego will return in the spring for its non-traditional season.

Men’s Lacrosse Downs Plattsburgh at Home

Oswego, NY – The Oswego State Men’s Lacrosse team faced off against their rival, Plattsburgh this weekend. After surrendering the first goal of the game, the men were able to rally back and defeat the Cardinals.
Both teams started the game off slow, pushing the ball into the offensive zone, not finding any success. Plattsburgh snuck in a goal with five and a half minutes remaining in the first quarter of play. The Lakers were not showing any signs of life until Hayden Coney netted a goal with just 18 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Just eight seconds later, Logan Prescott scored another goal for the Lakers and Oswego would lead by one going into the second quarter.
Max Brodman found his groove in the second quarter, scoring the next two goals for the Lakers, almost seven minutes apart. Plattsburgh responded with a goal of their own, and would trail Oswego by two. That was until Liam Sexton netted the fifth goal of the game for the Lakers with an assist from Brodman. The Cardinals added one more goal in the second, with Oswego adding two more in the final three minutes. The Lakers would lead Plattsburgh 7-3 going into halftime.
In the first five minutes of the third quarter, the Lakers would only add one goal, with Plattsburgh adding two goals. However, in the final six and a half minutes, Oswego added three goals to Plattsburgh’s one. Coney, Sexton, Brodman, and Corey O’Connor each added one goal in third quarter. Oswego led 11-6 going into the final quarter of play.
The Lakers and Cardinals went back and forth in the final quarter of play, with each team adding five goals in the quarter. Plattsburgh added three consecutive goals to start out the quarter, and cut the Laker lead to two. O’Connor and Liam McAlary each added a goal less than 20 seconds apart to give Oswego a four point lead. 30 seconds later, the Cardinals scored again and cut the Laker lead to three. Oswego then recorded three straight goals near the end of the match, with a goal by Coney, and two goals from O’Connor. Plattsburgh added one more goal with a minute left in regulation, but could not come back from the lead the Lakers built. Oswego defeated the Cardinals by a score of 16-11 at Laker Turf Stadium.
Seven different Lakers scored goals in the match, with four of them recording a hat trick. O’Connor led the Lakers with six total points, scoring a team leading four goals, with two assists. Sexton, Brodman, and Coney each recorded three goals this afternoon. Aiden Kenyon recorded seven saves while in net, and was credited with the win. The Lakers look to take on Oneonta this weekend, staying in Oswego for the matchup.
