
POTSDAM, N.Y. — The Oswego State women’s lacrosse team fell to Clarkson 18-9 on Wednesday, bringing them to 0-2 on the new campaign. Despite a four goal performance from junior Sela Wiley, the Lakers weren’t able keep pace with the Golden Knights in a game that saw 27 total goals.
Clarkson got to scoring exceptionally fast to being the first quarter. After a penalty gave Clarkson a woman-up opportunity just nine seconds into the game, the Knights were able to capitalize 22 seconds later to go up 1-0. Following that, the Lakers were able to tie it up off a Madison Davis free position shot. Although Oswego scored once again, this time off a Julia Quirk position shot, Clarkson was able to net four more goals. With the Golden Knights leading 5-2 going into the second frame, they continued their dominant first half. Clarkson scored four goals through the first nine minutes, leaving Oswego in a 9-2 deficit. Sela Wiley, the Lakers leading scorer in 2021, begun her scoring spree at the 6:04 mark, finding the back of the on the team’s third free position goal. Though, Clarkson capped off a hot second quarter with three more goals which brought their halftime lead to 12-3.
The second half begun with Clarkson scoring their 13th goal of the contest, giving them a double-digit lead. From there on out, both teams traded goals with the Golden Knights winning the frame 4-3. Wiley netted two more Laker goals in that span with Quirk getting the other. Things slowed down in the final quarter and while the Lakers were able to outscore Clarkson, they weren’t able to over come the large deficit. Sophomores Shae McConnell and Isabella Lembo scored two of the Lakers final three goals, with Wiley netting the other. After a comeback attempt, Clarkson went on to win 18-9.
Despite Clarkson having more turnovers than Oswego, the Lakers weren’t able to match the Knights shot production. Oswego lost the shots-on-goal battle 28-14 and were outshot by 16. With this loss, the Lakers drop to 0-2 to begin the 2022 season. Searching for that coveted first win, Oswego will have an opportunity to capture it when they face Utica in their home opener Saturday. Face-off is set for 12:00 p.m. at Laker Turf Stadium

Men’s Hockey Preview vs. SUNY Potsdam
OSWEGO — Men’s Hockey will do battle to their second opponent on Whiteout Weekend Saturday night against SUNY Potsdam. The bears began their season this past weekend with a tie against Geneseo (3) and a lost to Brockport. This coming game will be the second matchup for both teams of this weekend as Potsdam will travel to Cortland to face the Red Dragons. After sweeping the Bears last season, the Lakers look to take game one of the home and home series as they will not see Potsdam again until February. Men’s Hockey Preview versus SUNY Cortland
OSWEGO — The Men’s Hockey team will start their 2019-2020 regular season today against SUNYAC opponent Cortland. The Lakers are looking to continue their success last season versus the Red Dragons after sweeping their opponent both home and away. The most recent preseason poll has the Lakers slotted in the sixth position under Hobart (5) and Geneseo (3). After going 2-0 against Carleton Place and Nazareth in exhibition, the top story going into this season is who Ed Gosek will be starting between the pipes. Puck drop will be at 7 p.m. at the Marano Campus center. Of course WTOP10 has you covered with Hockey Night in Oswego starting at 6:30 p.m.

Oswego State women’s basketball dominates Wells Express in fifty point victory

OSWEGO N.Y. — The Oswego State women’s basketball team was on a tear on Sunday when they went on the road to take on the 0-3 Wells Express. A dominant victory gave the Lakers their third win, as they now sit at 3-3. At no point was this game close as the Lakers sailed past the Express in a 73-23 victory. They outscored the Express in all four quarters, holding them to just three points in the first. From there the Lakers poured it on, scoring twenty-six in the second, eighteen in the third, and fourteen in the fourth. This high scoring offense combined with lockdown defense made it a very long day for Express. This Lakers team is very impressive and continues to showcase their skill with these performances. senior Danielle Caivana was electric in today’s game, dropping fourteen points and four steals. Logan Castiglione, Laila Elor, and Chastin Giles all had impressive performances with eight points each. The Lakers can’t celebrate for too long as they shift their attention towards SUNY Cortland this Tuesday at the Max Ziel Gymnasium. This SUNYAC conference matchup is one you won’t want to miss as these three win teams battle it out. Tip-Off is at 5:30 p.m. on WTOP 10!
