ITHACA, N.Y. — The Oswego State men’s soccer team travelled south to take on the Ithaca College Bombers on Sunday. The Lakers hadn’t beat Ithaca since 1996 and they knew they wanted to change that.
The Bombers were the ones to get off to the hot start. An early yellow card for Ithaca, in just the sixth minute, gave the bombers some momentum. They put the ball past Oswego goalie Matt D’Arpino just over a minute later. Luckily for the Lakers they turned it around real quick. Oswego’s Ha Joon Lee found the back of the net just three minutes later to tie the game. The pace of the game slowed from there. The next goal came in the 33rd minute. Kieran Gilroy for the Lakers scored his second goal of the season to put the Lakers up. Oswego didn’t stop there though, with Anastasios Diacovasilis scoring just before the half to give the Lakers a 3-1 lead. The second half didn’t see nearly as much action as the first. An early yellow card for Ithaca, and a few shots for each side were the only real action. Oswego beat Ithaca for the first time in 26 years. Although the Lakers were outshot in the game 16-9, they they had more quality shots, with 6 of their shots being on goal to only two of Ithaca’s. Ha Joon Lee led the Lakers in shots and shots on goal with three each.
Oswego is now 2-2 on the season with only one game left before SUNYAC play. Their next game is their home opener on Tuesday September 13th against Elmira College at 6:00 at Laker Turf Stadium.

Oswego High School Hockey gets set for final regular season game of the year
OSWEGO, NY — Oswego High School Hockey has been preparing for their final regular season game of the year this past week as the Buccaneers welcome in Skaneateles this Wednesday. The Bucs sit at 11-8 overall but only 4-7 in division play which puts them in fifth place in the Division II standings for Section III. Oswego is currently on a four game losing streak which has all been against division opponents. There most recent game was a 6-1 loss against Cortland-Homer who has only two more points then the Bucs in the division standings. Oswego could tie that total with a win in their final game but are going up some tough competition.
Skaneateles currently sits with a 9-0-1 division record with their one tie that occurred against Auburn back on December 17th. Skaneateles is ranked number one in the state for Division II as the group is 16-0-1 and are heavy favorites for the Section III title. Oswego would have to outscore the group which has only allowed eight goals against all season. Junior goalie Brandon Demling has been stellular in net for the Bucs as the goaltender has kept the team in games throughout the season. Demling holds a .881 save percentage and a 2.83 goals against average in his 17 games played. Demling has also recorded one shutout this season which came against Fulton back in December. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday night from the Crisafulli Rink at Fort Ontario.

Oswego State women’s hockey comes up short against Plattsburgh this weekend
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — It was a rough weekend for the Lakers as they suffered two unfortunate losses, one being a NEWHL game. The Lakers went on the road to take on Plattsburgh State in their first meeting of the weekend. They were hungry for victory and proved it when they went up 3-0 in the first period. Just nine minutes into the contest senior Chyne Kennedy put the lakers on the board with an assist from Mia Conboy. Sophomore Rachel Corbett added to the lakers lead with eight minutes left in the first. Just before the first period came to an end, Sophomore Sophia Kyrkostas scored with assists from Simone Bednarik and Ariella Haas capping off a dominant first period. It was all downhill after the first as the Lakers lost the momentum they had built up, eventually letting up six goals by the end of the contest to conclude Plattsburgh’s three point victory.
The Lakers went back to work against Plattsburgh State the following day in hopes of getting some revenge after their heartbreaking loss. During the first period it was neck to neck with freshman Ashlyn McGrath putting the Lakers on the board just two minutes into the contest. With six minutes into the first Plattsburgh tied the game up. From there the momentum was in their favor and the Cardinals went on to score two more goals in the second. Down two goals the Lakers tried to make some magic happen and pull off a comeback, unfortunately they couldn’t get anything cooking and ultimately lost 4-1. The Lakers look to bounce back after these two losses when they go on the road to play William Smith College this Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in Geneva. Lakers Fight Tough Against Geneseo
OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Men’s Soccer fought tough against their SUNYAC opponent Geneseo in a 2-2 tie. The Lakers started out the first half strong as they had four shots within the first ten minutes of the game. The Lakers took the lead early in the game with Kieran Gilroy scoring a goal at the 35:57 mark of the first half. Geneseo would finish off the second half strong as they had six shots within the final 20 minutes of the first half. Oswego had an impressive first half as they had nine total shots.The Knights would control the tempo of the second half. Geneseo would tie the game as they scored their first goal of the game. The Lakers would answer three minutes later as HaJoon Lee scored for the Lakers to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead. The Knights weren’t finished yet though as within about six minutes of the Lakers scoring the Knights scored again tying the game at two a piece. Geneseo outshot Oswego 23-10 during the game. Freshman Goalie Andre Bourjolly had a strong game as he had six saves all coming in the first half. This marks the first time that the Lakers have tied with the Geneseo Knights since the 2018-2019 soccer season.
Oswego State faces off against another SUNYAC opponent the Plattsburgh Cardinals on Saturday, October 8th at 1 PM at the Laker Turf Stadium.
