CANTON, N.Y. – The Lakers end their undefeated start with a 1-0 loss to the St. Lawrence Saints on Saturday afternoon. Both teams had great defensive starts with no team budging in the first 20 minutes. After a quiet first quarter St. Lawrence finally had a breakthrough 23:07 in the second when forward Anna Coyne weaved her way through the lakers defense to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Oswego tried to fight back in the third quarter behind a 5-1 edge in shots, but St. Lawrence played great defense and dominated possesion in the 4th and the lakers could not break through. St. Lawrence dominated possession for most of the game with 19 shots on goal compared to the Lakers’ nine and dominated on penalty corners 14-2. Lakers goalie Erica Scheblein ended with a game leading 15 saves on the day.
The Lakers are now 5-1 and will next host the University of Rochester on the Laker Turf Field Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the program’s annual Teal Game.

Terra is selected as SUNYAC Defensive Player of Week
OSWEGO — The SUNYAC Conference has selected Oswego State Men’s Soccer team goalie Brian Terra as the Defensive Player of the Week. Terra finished with five saves as the Lakers snapped a 5-game losing streak to lift the Lakers to a 1-0 win over Potsdam last Saturday. This shutout would staple Terra’s second shutout of the season, with his first being against Utica College and his fourth overall. Terra and the Lakers return to the Turf at 4 p.m. on Friday as they host the Buff. St. on Oct. 12.

Oswego State Women’s Lacrosse Eliminated from SUNYAC Championship Contention
BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The Oswego State Women’s Lacrosse team lost their third SUNYAC game of the season on Wednesday, falling to the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles 20-8. This is the Lakers second loss to the Golden Eagles in 2021 after previously losing 22-9 on April 17th. With Wednesday’s victory, Brockport moved to 7-1 in SUNYAC play and clinched first place in the west division.
Brockport came out of the opening faceoff firing as freshman midfielder, Logan Hibbard, scored back-to-back goals within the first 4 minutes of play. Oswego’s Shae McConnell responded quickly, bringing the score to 2-1. However, that would be as close as it game got. The Golden Eagles went on an 8-goal run throughout the first half and outscored the Lakers 7-5 in the second. Oswego wasn’t able to generate much offense in this contest. They shot the ball just 19 times all game and only 9 times in the first half. Freshman attack, Isabella Lembo, lead Oswego in scoring, totaling 3 goals on three shots. Logan Castiglione had 3 points of her own as she scored twice and added an assist. While Lakers leading scorer, Sela Wiley, didn’t have her usual outstanding game, she still scored once.
This loss drops Oswego to 3-3 in the West division and while they still sit in third place, they remain two games behind Geneseo. The Lakers have been mathematically eliminated for the SUNYAC Championship after their loss as Geneseo would secure the second spot in the division. Oswego was originally scheduled to take on SUNY Fredonia on April 24th, however, the game was cancelled following positive Covid tests from Fredonia. Now, Oswego will have the opportunity to improve to 4-3 against SUNY Geneseo on April 25th, their last scheduled game of the 2021 season. Game is set for 1 p.m. from Laker Turf Stadium and WTOP 10 will be at the field to cover all the action

Laker men’s soccer suffer first SUNYAC loss on the road
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Laker men’s soccer took a trip to western New York to play their first SUNYAC matchup against the Brockport Golden Eagles on Wednesday. This game was back and forth right from the beginning stages of the contest when both teams shared possession in each teams offensive zone. Oswego took momentum starting at the 20-minute mark, firing three shots at Brockport goalie Andrew Taylor. But both teams couldn’t get anything to go in the first 45 minutes and the score was tied at 0-0 at half.Oswego started with the momentum again in the second half but was then stopped when Russ Domm scored for Brockport at 51:24. Both teams started to become frustrated from not getting much going and the officials gave out three yellow cards in just 6:57 of play in the second half, two for Oswego and one for Brockport. Jean Pierre Moquillaza put a shot on goal in the 78th minute in hopes for a tying goal but Taylor made a great save keeping the lead for the Golden Eagles. The Lakers had one opportunity to tie with 16 seconds left on the clock but Taylor read Jason Wuytack shot well to clinch the win for Brockport. Kyle Gehnrich led the Lakers with three shots and Matt D’Arpino finished the contest with four saves in the net for Oswego. Oswego is now 2-4-1(0-1-1 SUNYAC)
