The Oswego Women’s Hockey team beat SUNY Canton 3-1 in the Campus Center in the first game of a home-home double header. Freshman Ashley Lyman opened the scoring in the first period with an assist from fellow freshman Ericka Truschke. In the second period Oswego added another goal when freshman Bridget Hamlin found the back of the net with assists from Leslie Jarvis and Mady Paul. Canton tried to climb back into the game when Caroline Mundy netted her first goal of the season. Oswego, however, was able to score once more when Melissa Seamont scored her fifth goal of the season with Jocelyn St. Clair and Monica Patted getting credited with the assists.

Lakers Lose in Stunner Against Potsdam
The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team lost against the Potsdam Bears by a score of 1-0. After the loss, the Lakers drop to 18-4-2 overall and 13-1-1 in SUNYAC play while the Bears move to 10-9-5 on the season.
Aside from a power play goal from Potsdam in the first period, the game consisted of only chances. The Lakers outshot the Bears 42-20 but were unable to find the back of the net mainly due to the play of Potsdam’s goalie, Brendan McMeninmen. Max Novick led Oswego with a career high 10 shots.
The SUNYAC’s leader in goals against average and save percentage, David Richer, stopped 19 shots for the Lakers.
Oswego will have its regular season finale tomorrow against Plattsburgh in their annual Whiteout Game at 7:00 pm. The team will also honor its three seniors including captain Mitch Herlihey as part of Senior Day.

Herlihey Scores 100th Point in Win Over Geneseo
The fourth ranked Oswego State men’s hockey team defeated seventh ranked Geneseo 4-2 on Friday in what was a crucial SUNYAC matchup. With the win, the Lakers move to 17-3-2 overall while also clinching home-ice advantage throughout the conference playoffs. The Knights drop to 15-5-3 on the season.
Oswego came out strong on the offensive end in the beginning of the game scoring three goals. One of the scores came from Mitch Herlihey, off of an assist from Josh Zizek. The assist was Zizek’s team-leading 17th of the season. Geneseo’s top-five nationally ranked offense would not go down easily though as they cut the Lakers’ lead to just one in the final period. With 19 seconds remaining, Oswego put the game away on Herlihey’s empty net goal. The goal secured the senior captain a spot in the 100 point club making him the 56th Laker to reach the milestone.
Oswego will look to extend their winning streak tomorrow when they travel to Brockport for their last away matchup of the regular season. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm.

Halloween in SUNY Oswego
by Sean Ryan, WTOP10-TVThe Oswego State community prepare for exciting and safe Halloween programs on campus. Events like Scalesburry is returning; a haunted house and Halloween extravaganza. There is also a Trick or Treat program going on in several of the residence halls on campus, this provides a safe and healthy environment for local kids to trick-or-treat.\As per recent tradition Scales and Waterbury hall organize a Halloween program involving a haunted house, plenty of food, and a screening of several Halloween themed movies. What will be different this year is that Scalesburry Haunted House will take place in Lee Hall instead of Scales Hall. As for the resident halls, Waterbury will have food and Scales will be screening horror movies. The haunted house will be staffed by students and with help of several on campus entities such as Residence Hall Association (RHA) and the Oswego Theatre Department. Both will mainly help with decorating Lee Hall. This event is part of an initiate on campus to provide safe non-drinking alternatives for college students. This will take place on Friday, October 28 from 8pm to 12 pm.A safe Halloween program will take place in Funelle hall, Hart hall and other Lakeside residence halls on Sunday October 30. Local kids will be allowed to come through the buidlings and trick-or-treat. There will also be a Halloween party for children in Morano Campus Center. This is another safe alternative to roaming the cold streets at night and gives college students the chance to get better involved in the Oswego community. Trick-or-treating starts at 11 am and goes until 3 pm.Halloween looks to be an eventful time here at SUNY Oswego.
