The Special Olympics New York Central Region is hosting their third annual Polar Plunge in Wrights Landing, Oswego.
The event will take place on March 28, and involves participants jumping into the lake at Wrights Landing regardless of the weather conditions of the time.
By registering, participants will have the opportunity to raise money for the athletes of the Special Olympics, and those who raise $100 or more receive a Polar Plunge Sweatshirt.

SUNY Oswego Cancels Afternoon Classes
As of 9:30 this morning SUNY Oswego has cancelled all afternoon classes due to inclement weather. This entails all classes that begin at or after noon anywhere on the SUNY Oswego campus.
Heavy snowfall and blowing snow combined with frigid temperatures have prompted the school to take this action. Safety is the main concern for students and faculty as they head from building to building for class, as well as for those faculty and students who commute to the campus.
Visibility is limited and walkways are barely identifiable all across campus and Oswego as a whole. Campus officials are making efforts to clear the snow as quickly as possible, but with some reservation, as to protect themselves and students in the low visibility conditions.
The National Weather Service is calling for a 100% chance for Lake Effect Snow all across Oswego and has issued warnings out all across Central New York. The snow is expected to continue into tonight with a slight tapering off in the later evening. Accumulation is expected to reach 3-5 inches, and temperatures are ranging from, 5-10 degrees. With winds out of the Southwest at 10 to 15 mph and gusts up to 30 mph the temperature feels more like a frigid -3 degrees.

Preparing For The Oswego Cold
OSWEGO, NY— Something on everyone’s mind: those cold Oswego winters.
It has been three weeks since the end of summer, and the cold weather is already creeping into Oswego. Many residents have started preparing themselves for the inevitable cold by wearing extra layers, like resident Azrien “Az” Wilson.
“Just a bunch of blankets, socks, sweats, kind of just taking care of myself. I’m not really worried about the room, as long as I’m warm,” said Wilson.
Other residents have been following suit and are starting to stockpile on winter clothes, including Ubong Udofa.
“Stocking up on my jackets, coats, and sweaters, sweatpants, my scarves, and my boots, too,” said Udofa.
With many residents being freshman and transfer students, it’s always good to know what tips and resources are available to help prepare for the winter weather from resident assistants, including Jessa Costa.
“We have heaters behind the desk that they can rent out, you can’t have them for too long but they definitely help temporarily in that moment,” said Costa. “Just make sure you’re bundled up, and hopefully the heating in the building is working well.”
Another good tip, don’t put any furniture in front of the radiator, because it will cause the heat to stay trapped.

SUNY Oswego’s “Story Tellers’ Guild” celebrates friendship

OSWEGO, N.Y.– SyFy and fantasy fanatics at SUNY Oswego have a unique outlet to make friends on campus. Once a month, the Story Teller’s Guild rents out four rooms in the Marano Campus Center in order to hang out and play games together. If that sounds like a typical Saturday between friends it’s because at the heart of the Story Teller’s Guild, there’s a community of people who enjoy spending time together.Vice President Tiffany Baez said the Story Tellers Guild is close knit group of people like a family. Baez said that although not everyone might be interested in the club because it is what she calls ‘nerdy’, the members of the club really enjoy it.
Story Tellers’ Guild Member Jessica Miller said the Story Tellers Guild was the first club she joined on campus.
“Most of my friends on campus are in the club. It gives me stuff to do so I don’t sit in my dorm all night which is fantastic,” Miller said. Miller said she wrote a game for the club this past week which she said is something she never thought she’d do.
