With the temperatures dropping and the levels of snow rising, battling the elements without a home to protect you is a nightmare to think about.
Sadly, this nightmare has become a harsh and cold reality for a man in Phoenix NY whose home was a flame on Monday evening.
The fire ensued in the 100 block of Huntley Road in the village of Phoenix, in Oswego County.
Volunteer firefighters from Phoenix, Baldwinsville, Caughdenoy, Cody, Liverpool, Moyers Corners and Volney responded to the call at 33 Elm Street and said the house was “fully involved,” in flames.
The Oswego County Cause and Origin Team also is at the scene.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

Oswego Fire Department Extinguishes West Side Flames
Oswego Fire Department responded after a house on 110 W. Bridge Street went up in flames.
Authorities say the fire had many layers, and because it was such a big home with several rooms, it was initially difficult for the firefighters. Despite this however, they were still able to prevent neighboring houses too much damage while ensuring the overall structure of the home stayed in tact.
Assistant Fire Chief Jon Chawgo applauded the efforts of the crew, saying “Our personnel did an excellent job knocking down the fire and protecting the neighboring structures. The house did sustain moderate damage, but is not considered a total loss and should be able to be repaired.”
The house is assumed to belong to college students, but nobody was home at the time of the incident.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Lakers Fall to Rival in Final Minutes
The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team lost against their rival, Plattsburgh, on Saturday night. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 18-5-2 overall and 13-2-1 in conference action while the Cardinals move to 13-11-1 on the season.
Oswego had their chances on offense throughout the game as they outshot the Cardinals 35-10. However, the stellar play of Plattsburgh goalie, Jimmy Poreda, derailed any momentum the Lakers seemed to have. Oswego’s best chance came in the third period when David Ferreira sent a shot into the crossbar of Plattsburgh’s goal.
While the Lakers were efficient at killing power plays, the opposite could be said about their power play offense. Oswego went 0-6 on the night and has failed to capitalize in their past 16 opportunities. The team has also been held scoreless for two consecutive games.
Oswego will look to get back in the win column next Saturday as they host the SUNYAC playoffs. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm.

Potterwatch Hosts Quidditch!
Tired of being an average everyday student? Potterwatch is the gateway to a bright new magical world for you. Potterwatch is the newly founded club on campus that specializes in various fun-filled events inspired by the works of J.K Rowling.
The club is run by the headmaster, Marianna Butera. Activities this club specializes in are debates, trivia nights, pot locks, viewing parties and quidditch.
On October 12, the first big event for Potterwatch is quidditch, which will occur outside of Lee Hall between the two softball diamonds from 10 am to 3 pm.
The game quidditch consists of nine people on each team: one seeker, three chasers, two beaters, one keeper, and two substitutes who can sub in for any players wanting to have a break except for the seeker.
The point of the game is for the chasers to score through one of three hoops as many times as possible with a quaffle (volleyball) while the beaters throw bludgers (dodgeballs) at them. If a chaser gets hit by a beater, they must drop their quaffle and run to the end of the field. The keeper’s job is to defend the goals and the seeker is responsible for chasing the snitch. The snitch in this case is a person who runs around in yellow and if he is caught, the team receives thirty points. Remember this is all done by riding on brooms.
The first place team for the tournament receives a pizza party, the second place team receives a dozen doughnuts, and the third place team earns candy bars for each team member.
Money proceeds from events like this get sent to a charity called Lumos which was cofounded by J.K Rowling. Lumos works to help the millions of children in institutions worldwide regain their right to a family.
So what are you waiting for? Get out there and show off some magic!
