OSWEGO, NY — In the first weekend of the new decade, Men’s Hockey welcomes in three out of conference teams to the 2020 Pathfinder Bank/Oswego State Hockey Classic. The 14th edition of the four team tournament is set to begin this Friday as the Lakers look to defend the title. This year, the competition is set to feature three nationally ranked programs, #9 University of New England, #10 Oswego, #14 Williams College, along with Saint Mary’s University traveling in from Minnesota. The Lakers, who currently sit atop the SUNYAC conference with an overall record of 7-3, will face the Saint Mary’s Cardinals at 7 p.m. on Friday in the semifinal round. The 3-5-1 Cardinals look to build on their win over Gustavus Adolphus College back on December 7th, while Oswego looks to bring home some recent success that was found on the road. #9 University of New England and #14 Williams college will face off before hand at 4 p.m. which will feature an offensive talented group from UNE against the defensive Ephs of Williams college. Game Recap: Oswego Takes Down Auburn
OSWEGO, NY — Wednesday evening, the Oswego Buccaneers Boys Hockey team returned home for another Section III Hockey matchup, this time against division rival Auburn. The Maroons traveled to the Crisafulli Ice Rink with a three-game losing streak in tow as the Bucs look to turn around their season, also being on their own slide. Oswego has played two games the past two nights with four games scheduled in four straight days. Baldwinsville and the Christian Brother Academy were able to defeat the Buccaneers, both my multiple goals.
The Bucs would turn to their offense against the Maroons as Joe Diblasi buries his fourth goal of the season to put Oswego ahead of Auburn. The period would end with that lone goal along with a solid performance from both goaltenders. Oswego would add another in the second period off a Frank Winchek redirect that came from Adam Michalski’s shot.
The Maroons would eventually answer in the third period but would not be enough as the Buccaneers put three more behind Marrons netminder Mason Jones. Captain Michalski would tally two goals in the final stanza to finish with three points in the contest. Diblasi would add one more to his goal totals on a breakaway opportunity. At the other end of the rink, goaltender Brayden Demling would secure the victory with one goal against and a .950 save percentage.
Oswego will host the Skaneateles Lakers tonight at the Fort Ontario as the teams are set for a 7 p.m. puck drop. The Lakers have been one of the better teams in the section this year as the team is 8-0. The Buccaneers could hand the Lakers their first lost of the season but would need to play a complete 45 minutes of hockey this evening. Men’s basketball starts season with tournament win

OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State men’s basketball team competed in the Max Ziel Tournament this weekend. They played the first game on Friday night, beating Elmira College handily 85-51. They would play the second game on Saturday, winning the tournament in a closer contest against Hobart College 63-48.
Friday night’s game against Elmira started close. Oswego State led 6-4 after five minutes before a 10-0 run would help the grow a lead they wouldn’t give up. Another eight points from Laker senior guard Julien Crittendon gave Oswego a 25-6 lead with ten still to play in the first half. The first half would end 42-19 Oswego. Elmira had a more successful second half, scoring thirty-two points, but Oswego would score another forty-three of their own, for the final score of 85-51. Crittendon was the Lakers leading scorer with fifteen points, with freshman Ahkee Anderson the only other Laker with over ten points at twelve. Fourteen Lakers would score on the night. Anderson also contributed three assists. Junior guard Devin Green lead the team in rebounds with nine. Oswego shot 50.9% from the field on the night.
The second and final game of the tournament was against Hobart college. An opening three pointer from Hobart was answered by a 16-0 run by the Lakers over eight minutes. Fourteen of the Lakers sixteen came from junior guard Kaleb Cook and sophomore guard Jeremiah Sparks. The first half would end 35-20 Oswego. The Lakers pushed the lead to twenty-one early in the second half but Hobart would pull it back to eleven with three to play in the game. Oswego would play solid defense and hit their free throws to close out the game and win 63-48. Kaleb Cook led the Lakers with twenty-two points and Jeremiah Sparks had fifteen of his own. Senior center Louis Fedullo led the Laker with eight rebounds. Kaleb Cook was named tournament MVP and Julien Crittendon was named to the all-tournament team.
Oswego State plays Clarkson at 7:30 p.m. in the Max Ziel Gymnasium on Tuesday November, 16th. WTOP 10 will have coverage starting at 7:30 p.m.

Oswego State women’s hockey comes up short against Plattsburgh this weekend
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — It was a rough weekend for the Lakers as they suffered two unfortunate losses, one being a NEWHL game. The Lakers went on the road to take on Plattsburgh State in their first meeting of the weekend. They were hungry for victory and proved it when they went up 3-0 in the first period. Just nine minutes into the contest senior Chyne Kennedy put the lakers on the board with an assist from Mia Conboy. Sophomore Rachel Corbett added to the lakers lead with eight minutes left in the first. Just before the first period came to an end, Sophomore Sophia Kyrkostas scored with assists from Simone Bednarik and Ariella Haas capping off a dominant first period. It was all downhill after the first as the Lakers lost the momentum they had built up, eventually letting up six goals by the end of the contest to conclude Plattsburgh’s three point victory.
The Lakers went back to work against Plattsburgh State the following day in hopes of getting some revenge after their heartbreaking loss. During the first period it was neck to neck with freshman Ashlyn McGrath putting the Lakers on the board just two minutes into the contest. With six minutes into the first Plattsburgh tied the game up. From there the momentum was in their favor and the Cardinals went on to score two more goals in the second. Down two goals the Lakers tried to make some magic happen and pull off a comeback, unfortunately they couldn’t get anything cooking and ultimately lost 4-1. The Lakers look to bounce back after these two losses when they go on the road to play William Smith College this Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in Geneva.
