Oswego, NY –The AAMEN of Oswego hosted a program friday titled, “Highway to Connection: Internship Panel.” The panelist included 3 professionals, Lamar Henderson: Public health service officer, Robert Berkley: Physical therapist, and Emanuel B. Henderson III: business man. Oswego students George Assam, senior, electrical and computer engineering major, Alexis Stalkley, senior, human resource management major and Brittany Underwood, junior, childhood education major were also apart of the panel.
Both the students and professionals gave their personal experiences with resume building, applying for internships, and conducting yourself appropriately in a work environment. The general conscience among the panel was that of outworking the competition, and showing your employer you’re serious about learning and working diligently. Senior Alexis Stalkley spoke as to how competitive the job market it. “I applied for nearly 100 internships and only heard back from 2-3,” Alexis claimed. Lamar Henderson, a public health service officer, backed her claim of competitiveness among college students applying for internships. He stated, “I have 3000 emails sitting in my inbox right now from college kids trying to intern for me, what’s going to separate you from them?”
“Highway to Connection: Internship Panel,” was an opportunity for students to get a first hand look as to what’s necessary in order to transition from a college student, to a successful working class adult.
