Lakers Look to End Losing Streak

The Oswego women’s softball team will be hosting the Geneseo Knights this Saturday in a doubleheader. The Lakers enter the game on a two game losing streak but look to bounce back and get over the .500 mark in conference play. Geneseo is heading into this matchup with a 7 game win streak on the line including 3 shutouts during that stretch. The Lakers have not struggled putting runs on the board. In their last contest against Oneonta, they lost with 9 runners crossing the plate. Sophomore outfielder Rebecca Vilchez had two hits, two RBIs and one run scored in that game so she will be a big factor in the Lakers success. First pitch is set for 12 pm with the second game following immediately after.

Women’s hockey player Jacquelin White named ECAC West Rookie of the Week
By Victor Pusateri, WTOP-10 TV
Jacquelin White of the Oswego State Women’s Hockey team has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Women’s West Rookie of the Week for the second time this year. The first time she earned the award was three weeks ago.
White is a big reason the Lakers find themselves at 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in conference play. The freshman has scored a point in every game thus far, giving her a six game point streak to start her college career. This past weekend, White had two goals and one assist against Cortland.
The Lakers will return to the ice this weekend and head to North Country to take on the reigning Division Three National Champions, the Plattsburgh Cardinals. The Lakers and Cardinals face off at 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

Fashion Week
by Ilyssa Weiner
Oswego, NY- Fashion at Oswego’s first ever Fashion Week kicked off on Apr. 1.
Imani Cruz created Fashion at Oswego in 2014 after realizing there weren’t any fashion organizations on campus. She was influenced by designers in New York City and Paris.
“I kinda took it upon myself to think ‘You know what? It’d be cool if like we went around campus and took photos of people that were dressed really nice,” she said.
“The week is all about taking pride in how you appear and your appearance,” she said. “By creating Oz Fashion Week, we could light up some fire under students to dress nice just for one week.”
The week started with a pop up shop showcasing outfits created by up-and-coming designers from places such as Syracuse and Ithaca.
Rashaad Holley, a grad student at Buffalo State, is the creator of “Vingt Cinq Rashaad” and one of the designers at the pop up shop. His brand comes from a song lyric about not living past 25 years old.
“I take that and revert it into a positive direction and give people like myself inspiration to ascend as opposed to look at a ceiling and be limited,” Holley said.
With the success of the pop up shop, Cruz is very positive about Fashion at Oswego’s future.
