Women’s Soccer Preview of game against SUNY Potsdam

OSWEGO — Laker Stadium will host a SUNYAC match up this Friday between the Lakers and Potsdam Bears. The 3 p.m. kickoff will be the start to a 4-game home stand that the team will finish the regular season on. Currently, Women’s Soccer sits in last place of the SUNYAC conference with an 0-5 record. These final games will all be conference games in which the Lakers may be able to turn their season around. They showed strength their last game out with an overtime lost to New Paltz. The Lakers had the advantage in shots (8-6) along with corner kicks attempts (3-2) over the Hawks. Men’s Soccer back to winning ways against New Paltz

OSWEGO — Men’s Soccer hosted SUNY New Paltz Saturday afternoon featuring a senior day celebration. The Lakers would overcome the Hawks with a late tally from senior Anthony Paris to add to his Senior Day. His 2nd goal of the season came with eight minutes left in the match. The 2-1 victory would be their third SUNYAC victory of the season. Kyle Scalzo would be the other Laker to score, as he deflected a shot from Kieran Gilroy in the first half. The team is set to finish the regular season on the road for four conference games before the start of the SUNYAC tournament. The Lakers are currently holding the fourth seed down but are looking to move up in the standings by the end of the season.

Field Hockey forces OT but falls to SUNY Cortland

OSWEGO — Laker Field Hockey took an OT loss 2-1 to SUNY Cortland after tying the game late on Saturday at Laker Stadium. The goal from junior Theresa Glynn off the penalty corner from Kathleen Little and Leah Romanowski that forced OT was with less than seven minutes left in regulation. The Red Dragons would net one past freshman goalie Erica Scheblein a little over 2 minutes into extra time. The Lakers have only two conference match ups before the start of SUNYACS, with Brockport and Geneseo. Currently sitting in 6th place, the team would need to pass Oneonta and Brockport to get a berth to the tournament. However, the ladies will travel to Rochester on Tuesday to face non-conference opponent Nazareth, which is the start to a three-game road trip.

Oswego Men’s Soccer losses to Nationally Ranked Oneonta in 2OT

OSWEGO — The Lakers took the nationally ranked Oneonta to double OT when Witman Hernandez, leading scorer in SUNYAC, put the Red Dragons on top. In the 2-1 loss, Laker Jack Van Pelt got the lone goal off a free kick from sophomore Caleb Munski. Throughout play, Oswego defense blocked multiple Oneonta shots along with goalie Brian Terra’s five saves. The Lakers look to split the weekend with a game against New Paltz today. The team will honor their graduating class as this will be the regular season game at Laker Stadium.

Laker Volleyball sweeps Golden Flyers

OSWEGO — The Lakers defeated the Nazareth Golden Flyers in a quick three sets on Wednesday at the Max Ziel Gymnasium. The Golden Flyers came into the match 9-8 with a steady 3-1 away record. Lauren Fie and Julia Flohr led Oswego with two long serving runs that secured the first set. They would need to battle back in the other two sets to sweep Nazareth and improve to 14-6 overall. Shauna O’Flaherty, Senior, stood out with 13 kills and 2 blocks along with Lauren Fie’s 3 aces throughout the match. The team looks to take the recent success on the road for a 4-game road trip that starts with Plattsburgh this Friday. Oswego still has six matches SUNYAC games left before starting SUNYACS in early November.

Comeback Victory for Volleyball vs. Oneonta

OSWEGO — Volleyball had their 2nd SUNYAC match of the weekend yesterday. SUNY Oneonta visited Mark Ziel Gymnasium were the Lakers and Red Dragons used all five sets in this rivalry match up. Oswego would go down 2-1 going into the 3rd set until Junior Melissa Lussier helped lead the ladies to a comeback. This win is the first in conference play this season for the team which adds to their overall record of 13-6. Nazareth will enter the gym on Wednesday for a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.

Lakers snaps 12-game losing streak vs. Cortland with Tie

OSWEGO — The Men’s Soccer team ties nationally ranked Cortland after a highly competitive match up at Laker Stadium yesterday. After double OT, the teams finished the contest 1-1 with both groups starting off their SUNYAC conference play 2-0-1. After a scoreless first half, Steven Rojas, Freshman, scores off a shot from Caleb Asamoah. The Red Dragons would equalize later in the half, the first goal that got past keeper Brian Terra since Ithaca on Sept. 17. The group looks to keep their successful SUNYAC streak going with another home game against Oneonta this Friday. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.

Volleyball drops tough match to New Paltz

OSWEGO — The volleyball team played host to the defending SUNYAC champion New Paltz last night. The Lakers came right out of the gate, winning the opening set 25-16. They would drop the following three in a 3-1 loss to the visiting Hawks. Melissa Lussier, Junior, led the team with 14 kills along with 2 aces through the contest. The group looks to bounce back today versus Oneonta at 1 p.m. in the Max Ziel Gymnasium.

Men’s Soccer Preview of Match up against Ranked Cortland

OSWEGO — This coming Saturday, Men’s Soccer continues their strong SUNYAC schedule by hosting nationally ranked Cortland at Laker Stadium. The SUNY rivalry between the Lakers and Red Dragons continue with both teams starting off conference play undefeated. Both schools started their SUNYAC campaign playing Brockport and Geneseo, but the Lakers look to have the upper hand due to the two shutouts that were results of stellular goalkeeper work from Brian Terra. Terra recently won his third straight SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week with his performance this past weekend. Even though the Lakers haven’t beaten the Red Dragons since 2006, they will look towards their defensive play to continue their successful start of conference play. Laker Field Hockey drops game to defending SUNYAC Champions New Paltz

OSWEGO — Field Hockey hosted the defending SUNYAC Champions, New Paltz, this past Saturday. The Lakers hold the Hawks to a 2-1 score up till halftime. Once the 3rd period begins, New Paltz began to turn on the heat and netted four more goals by the end of the tilt. The lone Oswego goal, scored by Alyssa DeMichael, was a deflection from a shot sent in by Abby Testo. The ladies look to bounce back as they travel to Oneonta on Saturday Oct. 5th for another SUNYAC battle.

Men’s Soccer defends Laker Stadium against Brockport

OSWEGO — This past Saturday, Men’s Soccer looked to continue their SUNYAC play against Brockport, a team receiving votes in the latest D3soccer.com national poll. The Lakers won off a Caleb Asamoah penalty kick during the second half to push the team past the Golden Eagles with a 1-0 finish. This victory allows Oswego to start conference play 2-0 for the first time in over a decade. The team looks to continue their strong play into next weekend, when the Lakers host SUNY Cortland on Saturday October 5th at 1 p.m.

Men’s Soccer Wins against SUNYAC opponent Geneseo

OSWEGO ­­­­­­— Laker Soccer opens up SUNYAC play with a shutout win against Geneseo. Kyle Scalzo nets two goals with one of those tallies coming within the final seconds of the first half. Goalkeeper Brian Terra records his fourth clean sheet of the season after the 2-0 victory over the Knights. The team looks to improve their win streak to three against the Brockport Golden Eagles on Saturday September 28th. Kickoff at 1 p.m. at Laker Turf Stadium.
