OSWEGO — The Oswego State Women’s Tennis Team finishes the season with a victory over the Utica Pioneers by a score of (9-0). The Lakers finish the season with a (4-7) record. Bridget Bender, Samantha Spence, and Hoya Kobayashi all blanked their opponents in singles matches for the Lakers. Oswego will return in the spring for its non-traditional season.

Women’s lacrosse struggles against SUNY Cortland
OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State women’s lacrosse team had an afternoon contest with the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons Friday. Cortland came in as the number one team in the SUNYAC, and with an undefeated program record against the Lakers, 31-0, and looked to keep both.
The Red Dragons started hot. They got on the board just 44 seconds into the game, and kept their lead the entire contest. By the end of the firsT, SUNY Cortland had scored two more, and held a 3-0 advantage. The second period was when Cortland did a lot of their damage. They scored eight more unanswered goals, three players finding the back of the net more than once. Cortland’s Lauren Hopsicker had a second period hat trick, and Hannah Lorenzen finished the hat trick she started in the first. The Lakers would score one before the half, Logan Castiglione netting one, but the Lakers still were down 11-1 at the half. Cortland kept up the pressure in the second half, scoring three more times in the third period to extend their advantage to 14-1. The Red Dragon’s scored twice more before the Lakers would answer in the fourth, but the fourth is when the Lakers found a little momentum. With just under eight minutes to go, Cortland got a penalty, and Oswego would capitalize. Isabella Lembo scored on the man-up advantage, for Oswego’s second, just nine seconds into the penalty. Lembo scored again just three minutes later for Oswego’s third, Castiglione tallying assists on both goals. The Red Dragons answered with one final goal, their seventeen of the game. Oswego would grab one more consolation goal, Shae McConnell scoring, assisted by Madison Davis. Oswego couldn’t match Cortland’s offensive prowess, and lost 17-4. Lembo scored twice for the Lakers and Castiglione had three points. A tough day between the pipes for Sarah Kamide, allowing 17 goals on 27 shots. For SUNY Cortland, five players had more than two goals, and three had more than four points.
The Lakers next matchup comes against SUNY Potsdam on Saturday April, 23. They now have a 4-9 (3-3 SUNYAC) record. They sit fifth in the SUNYAC with three games to go before the playoffs.

Oswego State women’s hockey back in win column
OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State women’s hockey team got back into the win column on Friday night with a 2-1 conference victory over the Morrisville State Mustangs on home ice. The Lakers got their sixth conference win after the game winning goal came in the third period on the powerplay. Oswego State scored first in the contest with a goal in the first period to take the lead. Lizzie Burke got the lone period goal with an assist from Morgan Shines. The Lakers and Mustangs would go scoreless in the second period to keep the game a one goal game heading into the final stanza. Just thirty-nine seconds into the third period, Morrisville State tied the game to make for an exciting finish. Simone Bednarik was able to capitalize on the man advantage after burying a goal after a pass from defenseman Chyne Kennedy. Oswego State was able to hold on for the victory and Joanna Hiebert got the win in between the pipes for the Lakers. The goaltender made fourteen saves over the course of the contest and only gave up one goal against.
That win puts Oswego State tied for third place in the NEWHL conference standings. The team has thirteen points along with SUNY Canton. Plattsburgh State and SUNY Cortland still sit above the Lakers while SUNY Potsdam, Morrisville State, and Buffalo State round out the conference. Oswego will now set their sights on SUNY Canton as the Lakers will face off against the Kangaroos the next three games. The series kicks off on Friday, February 4th, in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena as the contest is set for a 3:00 p.m. puck drop against the Kangaroos. On Saturday, Oswego State will head on the road to play in Canton with another 3:00 p.m. contest. Oswego State Men’s Lacrosse Prepares for Geneseo
OSWEGO, N.Y. — After a 12-5 loss versus Brockport on April 16, the Oswego State Men’s Lacrosse team looks to find their first win of the condensed 2021 season with a battle against the Geneseo Knights. Although the Lakers have not won a game this season, they hold the record in history against the knights with 22 wins and 21 losses with the first matchup being in 1980. This will be the first game of a home and home series against Geneseo as they are scheduled to play the Knights on Saturday, April 24 at the College Stadium in Geneseo.
The history between these two teams have been extra competitive with their last matchup being in 2019 due to the cancelled season in 2020 and yielding a Knights win by a score of 14 to 13 despite a second half 10 goal push by the Lakers. Oswego is 2-8 since 2010 versus Geneseo in general and 10-11 at home against the Knights in history. As the Lakers look to salvage what is left of their season with three games remaining, they will turn to freshman midfielder Lucas Cloch who leads the team in points with 6 goals and 4 assists as well as rely on the man in between the pipes Kevin O’Donnell. The senior looks to stay strong to wrap up his career at Oswego State with 55 saves already on the season. Today’s SUNYAC West division matchup is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Laker Turf Stadium with WTOP 10 covering all the action from today’s contest.
