OSWEGO — The Oswego State Women’s Tennis Team finishes the season with a victory over the Utica Pioneers by a score of (9-0). The Lakers finish the season with a (4-7) record. Bridget Bender, Samantha Spence, and Hoya Kobayashi all blanked their opponents in singles matches for the Lakers. Oswego will return in the spring for its non-traditional season.

Loss keeps field hockey out of conference tournament
Oswego, N.Y. — The Oswego State field hockey team took to the field Wednesday night against Cortland. The Lakers fought hard, but the final score was a 3-0 Cortland win. The first goal came five minutes into the game by Cortland’s Kierra Ettere, one of the best goal scorers in the country. The other two Cortland goals would come in the first half of the game by Lily Fox. The Oswego defense would hold strong in the second half of the game not allowing a goal on thirteen shots. Oswego would take their only eight shots of the game in the second half, four of them going on target. Oswego’s Chloe Parks would get off three of those shots, with two of them on target ones. Oswego’s goalie, Erica Scheblein, would have nine saves in the contest.
Unfortunately, this loss would keep the Lakers out of the conference tournament. With one game to go, the team sits at 8-8, but only 2-4 in SUNYAC play, putting them sixth in the conference. They play their last game of the season at Keuka College on Friday at 4:00 p.m.

Game Recap: Oswego and Cazenovia go to Overtime
OSWEGO, NY — Friday night the Oswego Buccaneers Hockey team faced off against the Cazenovia Lakers in a Section III Hockey match up. The Buccaneers would play their second game in two days and Oswego would fall once again but this time in overtime. The Bucs honored their senior class prior to puck drop tonight. The Lakers scored four goals in the third period to win 7-6 over the Bucs. Oswego opened the scoring in the first period with three goals. Forward Collin Cianfarano would tally three goals in the contest to finish with a hat trick on the night. Cazenovia would net two goals in the final two minutes in the third period to tie the game and force overtime in the Crisafulli Ice Rink. With only three minutes left to go in the overtime period, the Lakers would put one past Oswego goaltender Brandon Demling to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Oswego now sets their sights on Watertown IHC as the Buccaneers wrap up their 2021 season at home Saturday evening. The 7 p.m. puck drop will feature the last time the Class of 2021 will be able to play for the coaching staff of Oswego. The team has a chance to finish 8-8 on the season with a win tomorrow night. WNYO will broadcast the game over their airwaves on 88.9 FM. WTOP 10 will conclude their coverage of Oswego Buccaneers coverage tomorrow after the conclusion of the game.

Field hockey wins on road with big fourth quarter
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Lakers travelled to Rochester to take on the Nazareth Golden Flyers on Tuesday night in a Oswego 3-1 win. Oswego’s offense would start out swinging in the first quarter with four shots attempted and three shots on goal from Simzer, Darcy and Delaney but none would make it to the back of the goal. The Lakers defense was in control in the first quarter by mostly keeping the ball in midfield which only allowed Nazareth to attempt one shot. Oswego would get their second penalty corner of the evening, just over three minutes into the second quarter (18:06) but the Laker’s were unable to capitalize as the defense by Nazareth didn’t allow Oswego to attempt a shot. Just over five minutes into the second, Nazareth would finally have their first shot on goal but Oswego goalkeeper Erica Scheblein would kick the ball out of bounds and record her first save of the night. The last 8 minutes of the quarter the Lakers were able to get some shots on goal with two coming from Kacie Simzer and one coming from Bryleigh Beauchat. Altogether Oswego would finish the first half with seven shots, four landing on goal with a halftime score of 0-0
At the start of the second half the Golden Flyers decided to make a change with their goalie and Oswego attacked. Oswego would record seven shots in the third quarter with none getting past the fresh new goalie. But all that changed in the fourth quarter when 46 minutes in the scoreless streak broke from a goal from sophomore Kate McNally assisted by Molly Darcy(46:19). The Lakers scored again 5 minutes later(51:37) off of a penalty goal from Kaitlyn Mastracco, giving the Lakers a 2-0 lead. 15 seconds later Nazareth answered back with a goal from Hannah James(51:52) to bring the Oswego lead to only one. But Nazareth defense couldn’t stop the Lakers as Kacie Simzer would grab another goal for Oswego(55:06) assisted by Taylin Bauer to give the Lakers a 3-1 lead. Nazareth would have chances at the end to score, but the Laker’s defense held up and didn’t allow any more goals for Nazareth to hold on to the win. Oswego out shot Nazareth by a 19-9 margin and Erica Scheblein continues her great season with five saves on the night.
Oswego is now 7-6 on the season. The Lakers will now return home on Saturday for senior day in a conference matchup against the Brockport Golden Eagles.
