OSWEGO, N.Y.– SyFy and fantasy fanatics at SUNY Oswego have a unique outlet to make friends on campus. Once a month, the Story Teller’s Guild rents out four rooms in the Marano Campus Center in order to hang out and play games together. If that sounds like a typical Saturday between friends it’s because at the heart of the Story Teller’s Guild, there’s a community of people who enjoy spending time together.

Vice President Tiffany Baez said the Story Tellers Guild is close knit group of people like a family. Baez said that although not everyone might be interested in the club because it is what she calls ‘nerdy’, the members of the club really enjoy it.

Story Tellers’ Guild Member Jessica Miller said the Story Tellers Guild was the first club she joined on campus.

“Most of my friends on campus are in the club. It gives me stuff to do so I don’t sit in my dorm all night which is fantastic,” Miller said. Miller said she wrote a game for the club this past week which she said is something she never thought she’d do.

The Oswego men’s baseball team defeated the Rochester Yellowjackets yesterday in dramatic fashion. The Lakers were trailing heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, but junior infielder Brandon Nicholson hit a double to left that drove in two runs and tied the game at seven. The hitting was contagious as later in that inning three consecutive Lakers put the ball in play, extending their lead by four. That lead was more than enough for the Lakers to pick up the win as they move to 17-6 on the season. Oswego plays host to conference opponent Brockport in a three game series that begins Friday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for noon.

This weekend, the women’s hockey team travelled to Willamstown, MA to take on Williams.

On Saturday, the Lakers would defeat the Ephs 7-2. At the end of the second period, the Lakers were up 2-0. In the third period, Alexa Aramburu would contribute to the five goal period by scoring three out of the five goals. This would be Aramburu’s second-career hat trick. Olivia Ellis also had a great game scoring one goal and assisting on all three of Aramburu’s goals.

On Sunday, the Lakers would again defeat the Ephs, but this time only by a score of 1-0. The lone goal came from Alexa Aramburu in the second period. Jacquelin White and Olivia Ellis assisted Aramburu’s goal. Mariah Madrigal recorded her second shutout of the season and seventh victory. Madrigal stopped all 32 of the Ephs’ on-goal attempts. She has now made 25 or more saves in each of her last three outings, all culminating in wins.

The Lakers will return home this weekend and play Canton in a Friday night game and a Saturday afternoon game.
