
OSWEGO — The Oswego State Men’s Lacrosse team finished their fall season with two scrimmages against Cazenovia College and SUNY Polytechnic institute. It was the final test for them for the Fall before they transition to the spring season. The scrimmage also served as a fundraiser for the Wilmot Cancer Institute as admissions to the scrimmage were free and went towards Wilmot.

Matthews leads Lakers to 10th place finish

OSWEGO — The Oswego State Men’s Wrestling team competed to a tenth place finish in the Ithaca College Invitational last weekend. The highlight of the tournament for the Lakers came from Issac Matthews who battled to a fourth-place individual finish. Matthews was pinned in his first match but went on to dominate the consolation bracket all the way to the third-place match, where he lost a close matchup by a score of 6-5. The Lakers have some time to prepare for their next tournament as they travel to Cornell on Nov. 18.

Women’s Soccer dominant in 1-0 win

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The Oswego State Women’s soccer team took to the road on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup with the Houghton University Highlanders. The Lakers completely dominated the first half of the game. They got their first shot of the half at the just after the ninth minute of the first half and didn’t let up from there. They fired off five more shots before the thirtieth minute, three of them requiring saves from the Houghton keeper. The fifth of those shots found the back of the net. A cross off the foot of Amber McDermott found the head of Maggie Riordan for the only goal of the game, Riordan’s first of the season. McDermott became the eight different Oswego player to record an assist in only three games for the team. In total the Lakers ended up getting 10 shots off in the first half to Houghton’s one. They also had six corner kicks too Houghton’s none. The Highlander’s had a few chances early in the second half, including one in the 66th minute that required the only save of the day by Oswego goalie Perri Anderson. Both teams fought hard for a goal in the second half but the defenses prevailed for a scoreless second half. Maggie Riordan led the team in shots and shots on goal, five and four respectively. Sophomore Perri Anderson started in goal for the third time this season, this time playing the entire ninety minutes, after only playing one half of each of the previous two games.
The Lakers are now 3-0. They are yet to allow a goal this season. This is the first time since 2013 they have won three straight shutout games. The Lakers will head to Dunkirk, N.Y. on Friday to start the Fredonia tournament. They will take on the Ithica Bombers at 1:00 P.M.

Game Recap: Oswego Takes Down Auburn
OSWEGO, NY — Wednesday evening, the Oswego Buccaneers Boys Hockey team returned home for another Section III Hockey matchup, this time against division rival Auburn. The Maroons traveled to the Crisafulli Ice Rink with a three-game losing streak in tow as the Bucs look to turn around their season, also being on their own slide. Oswego has played two games the past two nights with four games scheduled in four straight days. Baldwinsville and the Christian Brother Academy were able to defeat the Buccaneers, both my multiple goals.
The Bucs would turn to their offense against the Maroons as Joe Diblasi buries his fourth goal of the season to put Oswego ahead of Auburn. The period would end with that lone goal along with a solid performance from both goaltenders. Oswego would add another in the second period off a Frank Winchek redirect that came from Adam Michalski’s shot.
The Maroons would eventually answer in the third period but would not be enough as the Buccaneers put three more behind Marrons netminder Mason Jones. Captain Michalski would tally two goals in the final stanza to finish with three points in the contest. Diblasi would add one more to his goal totals on a breakaway opportunity. At the other end of the rink, goaltender Brayden Demling would secure the victory with one goal against and a .950 save percentage.
Oswego will host the Skaneateles Lakers tonight at the Fort Ontario as the teams are set for a 7 p.m. puck drop. The Lakers have been one of the better teams in the section this year as the team is 8-0. The Buccaneers could hand the Lakers their first lost of the season but would need to play a complete 45 minutes of hockey this evening.
