A house in Clay last night broke out into flames. The fire started at 8 p.m. Saturday night.
The family that lives there has been hosting a haunted house event for the last 10 years. This was only their second night having their house opened for the season.
There were no reports of injury.
They currently have put up a GoFundMe account in hopes to rebuild the house and to continue their Halloween spirit.

The Zika Virus

For the past few months the concern over the Zika virus has been steadily growing. The Zika virus as of now is found mostly south of the United States in Central America and the northern part of South America, but is expected to spread northward as it gets warmer and warmer headed into summer. The full capacity of the disease is unknown, each week new symptoms and ways of transmission are talked about.
What we know is that the symptoms are relatively mild for adults but for pregnant women who catch the disease the fetus is susceptible to numerous brain complications upon birth.
The disease is spread mostly by mosquito but sexual transmission has also been know to happen for those carrying the disease. And there is currently no vaccine or cure for the virus.
As for the Oswego area the mosquitos that carry Zika are not expected to travel this far north this summer however for students living in Long Island, New York City, and southward be careful because it will be warm enough for mosquitos to travel up to those areas. A lot of bug spray, long pants, and long sleeve shirts this summer may be a good idea to decrease your chances of catching the virus.

Bullets for Broadway: Coming to a Stage Near You!
Come one come all to the local touring dinner theater musical interactive experience that is “Bullets for Broadway”. Filled with music, amazing local talent, comedy, romance, and a surprising murder mystery. This show will leave you will a full stomach and hands in the air wanting more from this incredibly talented cast all from Oswego county!
Director of the show Derek Potocki says the cast has been hard at work for about a month and that is has “all kinds of twisted plots, crazy things going on, you never know what’s gonna come at you next, it’s really interactive theater at its best.” With all kinds of musical numbers like “Me and You” featuring Jodi Halczyn as Toffee Alto and Peter Fekete as Tony Alto where they confess their love for eachother. Or “Mafia Queen” also featuring Jodi Halczyn as Toffee Alto and Stephanie Johnson as a chorus girl where they sing about Toffee being a mafia queen will leave you laughing yourself right out of your seat.
This show is being put up by none other than Oswego’s very own Theater DuJour! Finding out about how the company was started speaking with Tammy Wilkinson, founder of this company says “we were bringing shows to the Oswego Players, my role there was also producer, but we were having a little bit of a challenge getting butts in the seats and so we had the idea to bring them out into the community”. And good thing she did because they’ve been on a roll ever since, constantly in the media surrounding central New York.

Oswego Opera Theatre performs “The Mikado”

OSWEGO, N.Y.– The Oswego Opera Theatre presented a special performance of the Gilbert and Sullivan comedic opera, “The Mikado” on November 11th and 12th. The Mikado was the ninth of fourteen operatic collaborations written between the famous musical duo, Arthur Sullivan and W.S Gilbert. It has remained incredibly popular to this day since it’s 1885 opening in London with many professional theatre companies still performing it.
Gilbert and Sullivan’s comedic opera is a British piece set in Japan. This was done because the creators thought Japan was a far enough place away from their homeland of Britain to give them the freedom to satirize Victorian British politics and institutions of the time, by disguising them as Japanese.
The Oswego Opera Theatre took inspiration from the play’s original satirical nature and used the production as a way in which to poke fun at a lot of what has been dominating our political news lately. They even went so far as to having jokes pertaining to the Trump-Russia Scandal and a character in the show who was strikingly similar in appearance to 2016 Democratic Party Presidential Nominee, Hillary Clinton.
SUNY Oswego Orchestral and Artistic Director, and Conductor of “The Mikado” Dr. Juan Francisco La Manna said that the political aspect is all a part of what makes the show still relevant and enjoyable for audiences to see today.
“The great thing is that it can translate into today’s politics and world very well, so we took probably ninety percent of the substance of the script and adapted it so it would become really relevant,” said La Manna.
“The Mikado” is known as one of the most played musical theatre pieces in history. It was even estimated that before the end of 1885, its premiere year, 150 companies were already producing the opera.
