OSWEGO, NY – The Women’s Soccer team put on an impressive performance against the Plattsburgh Cardinals on Saturday in an upset win 1-0 in overtime to advance to the second round of the SUNYAC Tournament.

The first half of the game was a defensive battle between both teams. Oswego was only able to get one shot which came from Brianna Winkler. Plattsburgh managed to get five shots off during the first half with Perri Anderson recording one save. Plattsburgh had recorded five shots during the first half with two coming from both Nicole Kingsley and Kirsten Villemaire. Villemaire would finish the day with a game-leading five shots for the Cardinals.

In the second half, the Cardinals had 14 shots and Oswego would record eight. Lugina Serrao would lead the Lakers on the day with three shots. The Lakers would finish with ten shots with six being shots on goal while Plattsburgh had ten shots with five being shots on goal. Anderson in the second half would record three more saves as she finished the day with four saves. The game would go into overtime at 0-0 where in the early stages of overtime no one could score. Plattsburgh missed a chance to end the game on a 1:1 opportunity as Anderson made an incredible save to prevent a Cardinals win. The Lakers were able to capitalize off a corner kick that Graisa Madden was able to get into the net as Amber McDermott made a huge assist for the Lakers to secure a 1-0 overtime win against the Cardinals.

The Lakers will travel to Cortland on Wednesday, November 2 at Fred T. Holloway Field at 1 PM to face off against the Red Dragons in the second round of the SUNYAC tournament. The Lakers will be looking to make up for their loss against Cortland earlier this season. They will be looking for their first win against Cortland since the 2018 season. This marks the second time in seven years that the Lakers have made it to the second round of the SUNYAC Tournament dating back to 2015 when they lost to Oneonta 2-1.
