The Oswego State men’s soccer team fell to Buffalo State by a score of 2-1 Friday. The Lakers’ record drops to 6-5-1 and the Bengals improve to 9-1-2 overall.
Oswego midfielder Connor Lunduski scored the Lakers’ lone goal in the 81st minute thanks to a pass from Jason Siracuse. That is Siracuse’s fifth assist this season and Lunduski’s fifth goal. Despite outshooting the Bengals 8-4 in the second half of the game, they were unable to tie the match in 90 minutes.
Oswego’s next game is in Fredonia on Saturday at 1 p.m.

SUNY Oswego Open House
Colleges traditionally host open houses to inform high school students more about that college with a goal to convince incoming college freshmen on why that college is a good choice.
SUNY Oswego held its first Open House of the year this past Monday, October 10. Students from all across the United States came to visit Oswego, hoping to maybe become a future laker.
Not only does Open House effect the high school students, but it gives the Suny Oswego students the chance to flaunt their amazing clubs, sports, and of course…education.
Hundreds of students came to the Columbus Day open house, hoping to learn more about Suny Oswego. These students were given campus tours including the dorms, and many informative meetings to learn about education at Suny Oswego.
I got the chance to speak to a student about his experience while his group were walking through the resident halls, “From attending Open House, my favorite part was touring the Technology wing. The tours were very helpful, and you really got a feel of what campus is like. I love the location of the campus, and the buildings seem very up to date.” said Adam, a senior from Buffalo.
Open House is always a great way for SUNY Oswego students to look for community service hours. If you are interested in working Open House or attending an Open House session, there are two more this semester. October 29 and November 11.

Etan Thomas at OzSpeaks Diversity Series
Former NBA player Etan Thomas visited SUNY Oswego last Monday to lead a panel discussion and q&a about activism and media exposure within professional sports. The discussion was held at the Marano Campus Center auditorium as a part of the “I am Oz” Diversity Series.
“There’s this new surge of athletes using their voices and speaking out.” Thomas said.
Since Thomas’ retirement he has become a writer and a commentator, with a life devotion to advocating for social change on and off the court.
“I grew up admiring the athletes of the past,” Thomas said. “like Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Bill Russell, Muhammad Ali. Those were the athletes I have always admired (because of) the way they used their positions and platforms to be able to speak on different issues and create change.”
Several students attended the panel with many questions of discussion including players taking a knee during the national anthem, how athletes present themselves in the media, media criticism, and the evolution of social media use by players.
After the panel, students had an opportunity to purchase an autographed copy of Thomas’ book entitled “We Matter- Athletes and Activism.”
“I want them to read the stories of these different athletes who they admire seeing on the court or the field,” Thomas said, “by seeing the courage that they have and the passion that they speak with, and become inspired themselves to become activists in their own way.”

SUNY Oswego’s “Story Tellers’ Guild” celebrates friendship

OSWEGO, N.Y.– SyFy and fantasy fanatics at SUNY Oswego have a unique outlet to make friends on campus. Once a month, the Story Teller’s Guild rents out four rooms in the Marano Campus Center in order to hang out and play games together. If that sounds like a typical Saturday between friends it’s because at the heart of the Story Teller’s Guild, there’s a community of people who enjoy spending time together.Vice President Tiffany Baez said the Story Tellers Guild is close knit group of people like a family. Baez said that although not everyone might be interested in the club because it is what she calls ‘nerdy’, the members of the club really enjoy it.
Story Tellers’ Guild Member Jessica Miller said the Story Tellers Guild was the first club she joined on campus.
“Most of my friends on campus are in the club. It gives me stuff to do so I don’t sit in my dorm all night which is fantastic,” Miller said. Miller said she wrote a game for the club this past week which she said is something she never thought she’d do.
