OSWEGO, NY — Men’s Basketball battled Cortland Tuesday night in the first round of the SUNYAC Championship. The 74-67 final featured a Laker comeback in the second half as the team outscored the Red Dragons 44-30 to secure the win. Junior Liam Sanborn had a large part in the comeback as the guard put up 26 points in his 38 minutes play to lead the Lakers. Senior Joe Sullivan secured six field goals in his 38 minutes played as well. This win eliminates the Cortland Red Dragons who were the fifth seed in the playoffs.
Oswego now looks ahead to the Semi-Final round in which the team will have to travel to Brockport to face off against the number one team. The nationally ranked Golden Eagles are scheduled to battle the Lakers at 7:30 p.m. upon the finish of the other game between Oneonta and Potsdam. The winners will play each other at 4 p.m. on Saturday in Brockport.

Oswego State women’s basketball splits in weekend road trip
ONEONTA, N.Y. — The Oswego State women’s basketball team split in their weekend doubleheader, falling to New Paltz 56-37 on Friday before defeating Oneonta 56-52 on Saturday.
On Friday, the Lakers were able to keep pace with the two-time defending SUNYAC champions throughout most of the game. After a back-and-forth first quarter, New Paltz built a 19-8 lead by the opening minute of the second quarter. Though, the Lakers stormed back and went on a 13-2 run to knot the game at 21-21 with four minute remaining in the half. Freshman Diamond Pickett and senior Danielle Caivana combined for 11 points during that stretch run. Both teams scored last-minute buckets to end the half with Oswego trailing 27-24 at the break. Caivana started the second half off hot, scoring the Lakers first five points of the third quarter and tying the game at 29 apiece. However, that would be as close as the Lakers got for the remainder of the game. New Paltz went on a 17-0 run across the third and into the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Oswego outrebounded the Hawks 48-37, but were unable to capitalize on many second chance scoring opportunities.
Looking to avenge their loss the night before, Oswego started Saturday’s game off strong. The Lakers we’re up 19-11 after the opening quarter, lead by freshman Shania Iglesias who contributed a whopping 11 points. Both teams went on scoring runs throughout the second quarter, bring the halftime score to 31-21 Lakers. Oswego started to pull away in the second half. Danielle Caivana became red hot from beyond the arc, hitting a trio of three pointers as the Oswego lead grew to a staggering 21 points. However, Oneonta rallied back in the final 10 minutes of regulation. The Red Dragons went on a 24-9 run and brought the game within five points with under minute to go. However, free throws from Caivana and Diamond Pickett iced the game for the Lakers. Iglesias finished with a season-high 20 points while Danielle Caivana put up 15 of her own. Diamond Pickett also totaled a game-high 14 rebounds and three steals.
With Saturday’s victory, Oswego swept the season series with Oneonta and also snapped a five-game losing streak. While the Lakers improved to 5-17 on the season, they are unfortunately eliminated from SUNYAC playoff contention. Although this is the case, Oswego will look to finish the season off strong as they host their final two games next weekend against SUNY Brockport and Fredonia. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. on Friday at the Max Ziel Gymnasium.

Oswego State Baseball prepares for New Paltz
Oswego State baseball takes the road Tuesday, April 6th for a 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. doubleheader at New Paltz. The Lakers come in at 1-1 after splitting a doubleheader Saturday, April 3rd at Brockport, winning 7-2, and then losing 14-2.
Ryan Enos and Myles Felton look to pick up where they left off for the Lakers, as they each had two doubles to go along with two RBIs last Saturday. Anthony Van Fossen and Kieran Finnegan also looked sharp on the mound in the season opener, as Van Fossen allowed one run and three hits over the course of his five innings, and Finnegan surrendered one run on one less hit than his counterpart over four innings. Tuesday’s doubleheader is the first two games of a six game in six day span, and it will be interesting to see how head coach Scott Landers handles his pitching staff Tuesday.
The New Paltz Hawks are 2-0, they come in without playing in a live game in over two weeks, as they swept Skidmore in a doubleheader Sunday, March 21st 7-1 and 6-1. The Hawks offense showed some signs of promise in those two games, Justin Harvey was 4-8 with a home run and 4 RBIs, and Ryan Geraghty was 4-7 with a double and an RBI. New Paltz also features SUNYAC Week One Pitcher of the Week in Anthony Amoroso, who threw six shutout innings while surrendering two hits.
Oswego has the advantage in seeing live game action recently, but New Paltz has had this day circled for over two weeks now and both teams are ready to go. Oswego baseball takes on the New Paltz Hawks Tuesday April 6th in a 1:00 and 3:00 doubleheader in New Paltz.

Oswego State Baseball Team Prepares for Final Regular Season Doubleheader
OSWEGO, N.Y. — The #22 ranked Oswego State Baseball team (19-3) is set to take on the Plattsburgh State Cardinals (6-12) on Sunday, May 9th to conclude the 2021 regular season. This is the first doubleheader between the Lakers and Cardinals in over two years, with their last matchups resulting back-to-back Laker victories. Both teams will look to finish their seasons off strong as the SUNYAC tournament starts next week.
The Lakers are have been having an outstanding 2021 season thus far. Prior to their loss to Clarkson University on Tuesday, Oswego went on a 16-game winning streak. The Lakers now come in to Sunday’s contest on a single-game losing streak following their 5-2 loss to SUNY Oneonta on May 6th. Though, the Lakers would win the first game of the doubleheader 19-5. Plattsburgh hasn’t endured the same success this season. While they are coming off a victorious two-game sweep against the New Paltz Hawks, the Cardinals went 2-6 in their previous eight games. Oswego will be lead by senior infielder, Kyle Lauria, who leads the team in home runs (3) and RBIs (36). Junior infielder, Paul Tammaro, will also look to cap off his stellar season as he leads the team in hits with 35 and has a .422 batting average. Senior pitcher, Ronald Loomis, could pitch his final regular season game for Oswego and look to surpass 50 career strikeouts.
With the Lakers already locking up the #1 seed in the SUNYAC West division last week, they will aim to finish their dominant 2021 regular season with two more victories. Game 1 is set for 1:00 p.m. while game 2 will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Laker Baseball Field.
