With Halloween quickly approaching, Lieutenant Zachary Misztal, from the Oswego Police Department has offered some tips to make your Trick- or- Treating more enjoyable. Lieutenant. Misztal provided a list of ways adults can follow to make their children’s experience much better.

• Children should have reflectors on their Halloween buckets.
• Facial makeup is better than masks so those who are giving out candy can see children’s faces.
• Costumes should be looser fitted children can wear warmer clothing underneath.
• Children should always be accompanied with an adult.
• Know your Trick-or-Treat route.
• Have a safety plan incase you get separated from the group.
• Only go to houses that are well lit.
• Check your child’s candy, if it looks suspicious or unwrapped throw it out.

The Recent trend of people dressed up in clown costumes around the nation has caused panic and fear in communities. “Children can dress up in clown costumes, they just have to be responsible with it,” said Lieutenant Misztal.

Oswego, N.Y- Oswego State is receiving bigger name-speakers as years go on, especially for the media. The newest name on the list is Miguel Coyula, one of biggest filmmakers in Latin America. Along with him was actress Lynn Cruz who presented workshops for an audience interested in directing and acting.

Coyula is known for his political-heavy films such as Nadie (No One) and Memorias del Desarollo (Memories of Overdevelopment.) He presented screenings for both films and a Q&A session for each film.

In Cruz’ first workshop, she showed students how Coyula creates effects for his movies. Stop-motion style, Miguel adds images from magazines or other sorts of things into backgrounds of a film shot. Her second event was a presentation on the difference between acting in theatre and film. Oswego State professor Ulises Mejia, who organized the event, was present to translate what she said to the audience. Cruz says directors should learn about their actors on both the personal and work level in order for acting in a movie to feel more genuine. She also loves to co-direct with Miguel. ”I don’t only work as an actress but also behind the camera. I’ve discovered in my opinion that the actor’s role is more difficult,” Cruz said.

Coyula believes the film industry in Cuba is changing instantly because of the country’s westernization. “Directors aren’t working as independently as before, most films are now commercialize. The film industry began so filmmakers can only work as independently. But now that’s all changed,” Coyula said.

At the end of the event, Coyula showed a snippet of his current movie in production, Blue Heart.

This weekend, the women’s hockey team travelled to Willamstown, MA to take on Williams.

On Saturday, the Lakers would defeat the Ephs 7-2. At the end of the second period, the Lakers were up 2-0. In the third period, Alexa Aramburu would contribute to the five goal period by scoring three out of the five goals. This would be Aramburu’s second-career hat trick. Olivia Ellis also had a great game scoring one goal and assisting on all three of Aramburu’s goals.

On Sunday, the Lakers would again defeat the Ephs, but this time only by a score of 1-0. The lone goal came from Alexa Aramburu in the second period. Jacquelin White and Olivia Ellis assisted Aramburu’s goal. Mariah Madrigal recorded her second shutout of the season and seventh victory. Madrigal stopped all 32 of the Ephs’ on-goal attempts. She has now made 25 or more saves in each of her last three outings, all culminating in wins.

The Lakers will return home this weekend and play Canton in a Friday night game and a Saturday afternoon game.
