Lakers Lose Third Straight
The Oswego State women’s basketball team fell to the Brockport Golden Eagles by a score of 61-46. With the loss, the Lakers move to 7-17 overall and 4-13 in the conference while Brockport moves to 12-12 on the season.
Oswego battled Brockport throughout the first half keeping their turnovers to a minimum. The Lakers had just three in the first half and eleven total which was significantly lower than their conference leading 19.4 turnovers per game. Brockport’s Schyler Laux would change the momentum of the game as she scored eleven points in the second half. She finished with a game high 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles sealed the deal with a dominant performance as they held the Lakers to just five points in the fourth quarter.
Courtney Ameele led the Lakers with a team high 14 points while Zana Dillard and Rachael Windhausen left their mark on the defensive end. The two each had 11 rebounds with Windhausen also setting a career high with six blocks.
Oswego will play its final game of the season tomorrow at 1:00 against Geneseo at Max Ziel Gymnasium. Before the contest, the team will honor Ameele and Dillard as a part of Senior Day.

Men’s hockey remains perfect
Yesterday the Men’s hockey team traveled to Cortland to take on the Red Dragons in SUNYAC action. The Lakers would defeat the Red Dragons 4-1.
Each of the Lakers four goals were all scored by different players. Stephan Johnson would be the first Laker to score. He scored a power play goal to tie the Lakers with the Red Dragons with one minute left in the first period. At the halfway point of the second period, Kenny Neil, got his sixth goal of the year. With three and a half minutes left in the third, Chris Ragueso scored to put the Lakers up 3-1. Mitchell Herlihey would score with just under thirty seconds left in the game.
With the win, the Lakers improve to 5-0 on the year and are #1 in the SUNYAC with a 3-0 record. The Lakers will travel to Potsdam on Friday and to rival Plattsburgh on Saturday.

Oswego State Swimming Looks Forward to a Great Season
The Oswego State Swimming team is ready for a new season full of fast swimming and adrenaline. The team comes from accomplishing a 10-0 on the men’s team and an 8-2 on the women’s team last season. The team has experienced an exponential growth this year as a 24-strong class of 2022 has stepped into the game. Led by Coach Holman, Oswego State Swimming is looking forward to an exciting season.“All the international swimmers that we actually have here, you know, have been, you know, pretty serious about what they do,” says swimming coach Michael Holman. Assistant Coach Dragunas is experienced on the national level in Canada.“I think they bring a little bit of diversity and different perspective, you know, from where they come from,” says assistant coach Andrew Dragunas. This year the Oswego State Swimming team has three international swimmers. Luis Perez of Colombia is a sophomore this year. “I was once top 10 in all ages in all the country, so that was like really big for me. My main goal is to break the 100 and 200 backstroke records, school records, and hopefully to get a medal at SUNYACs,” said Luis. Alex Davie was born in Malaysia and is a junior this year. “When I was younger I was really focused on trying to make an Olympic team or make a national team because I have like five different nationalities, but as I’ve gotten older I realized that swimming just takes a lot from your life,” said Alex. Gigi Hon, a New York native, believes this is a great experience.“I learn a lot about everyone else’s culture, even if like you’re from a different state, but especially if you’re from out of the country,” Gigi says.
