Lakers Dominate Against Utica
The Oswego State women’s lacrosse team cruised to a 19-7 victory over the Utica Pioneers on Saturday. With the victory, the Lakers move to 4-2 overall while the Pioneers fall to 4-3.
Utica found the back of the net first but the momentum quickly changed as Oswego scored the remaining twelve goals of the first half. The Lakers added seven more in the final thirty minutes of the contest to seal the win. Gemma O’Kane and Toni Laneve each scored four goals while the nation’s leader in assists, Theresa Shattuck, contributed six helpers. She is now the team’s leader with 40 points (12 goals, 28 assists).
Goalie Angela Ponto recorded 12 saves while allowing three goals. Elianna Sanchez came in for the final seven minutes of the game, giving up four goals.
The Lakers will be back in action at Laker Turf Stadium next Saturday at 12 pm as they open up SUNYAC play against Brockport.

Lakers Earn Win on Senior Day
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team beat Potsdam 4-2 on Saturday. With the victory, the Lakers finish out their regular season with a 11-12-2 overall record and 7-8-1 in SUNYAC play. The Bears drop to 12-11-2 overall.
During a busy first period for both teams, the Lakers took only four minutes to get on the scoreboard. Natalie Giglio was credited with the goal off an assist from Olivia Ellis. Potsdam scored the next two goals but that would be all that got past Oswego’s Mariah Madrigal for the remainder of the game. She stopped 25 shots during her time in the net.
Tied at two after one period, Oswego dominated on the offensive side of the puck. The team tacked on another two goals off the sticks of Philomena Teggart and Sarah Grupp.
Oswego will begin play in the NEWHL Championship next Saturday against Buffalo State. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 pm in Buffalo.

Ellis Notches 100th Point in Loss
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team fell to their rival, Plattsburgh, by a final score of 6-2 on Friday night. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 8-11-1 overall and 4-7-0 in NEWHL play. The Cardinals move to 17-2-1 on the season and remain a perfect 11-0 in the conference.
It would not take long for Plattsburgh to get the scoring action started as Kayla Meneghin sent one into the back of the net just three minutes into the game. The Lakers would respond as their top two leaders in assists, Kate Randazzo and Olivia Ellis, fed Julieann White the puck for the power play goal to tie it up at one. The rest of the first period would be dominated by Cardinal scores as Plattsburgh put up four unanswered to take the lead 5-1.
In the third period, Oswego’s captain Ellis, made history as she joined the school’s 100 point club with her second assist of the night. She is the program’s leader for career points as well as goals (39) and assists (61). This also marked the fifth game of the season where the captain has accumulated multiple points.
The Lakers and Cardinals will face off for the final time this season at Saturday with puck drop scheduled at 3 pm.
