Men’s hockey remains undefeated, begin conference play
This past weekend the men’s hockey team started conference play and looked to continue their winning streak.
On Friday night, the team traveled to Brockport to take on the Golden Eagles in the first SUNYAC game of the year. The Lakers would win the game 5-1. Five different goal scorers contributed to the Lakers win. Jody Sullivan led the Lakers with a power play goal and an assist.
On Saturday, the team returned to Oswego for their homecoming game vs. Geneseo. After being down 3-1 at the end of the second period, the Lakers would go on a scoring rally in the third period to win the game 5-3. Leading the third period scoring rally was a power play goal from Kenny Neil followed by goals scored by Jody Sullivan, Stephen Johnson and Alex Botten. With the goal, Botten became the 52nd member of the 100 point club.
After this weekend of play, the Lakers improve to 4-0 on the year and 2-0 in the conference. The Lakers will go on the road Friday and continue SUNYAC play at Potsdam.

Lakers Fall to Rival in Final Minutes
The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team lost against their rival, Plattsburgh, on Saturday night. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 18-5-2 overall and 13-2-1 in conference action while the Cardinals move to 13-11-1 on the season.
Oswego had their chances on offense throughout the game as they outshot the Cardinals 35-10. However, the stellar play of Plattsburgh goalie, Jimmy Poreda, derailed any momentum the Lakers seemed to have. Oswego’s best chance came in the third period when David Ferreira sent a shot into the crossbar of Plattsburgh’s goal.
While the Lakers were efficient at killing power plays, the opposite could be said about their power play offense. Oswego went 0-6 on the night and has failed to capitalize in their past 16 opportunities. The team has also been held scoreless for two consecutive games.
Oswego will look to get back in the win column next Saturday as they host the SUNYAC playoffs. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm.

SEFA Bake-Off at SUNY Oswego
For week three of the annual SEFA Bake-Off at SUNY Oswego, 23 employees put out their finest baked goods for people to judge and enjoy.
All proceeds donated went to help the State Employees Federal Appeal (SEFA). Cathy Johnson, the manager of the Bake-Off competition, has been running the event for four years.
“Every year we work with employees on the campus to get them to donate a portion of their paycheck to our community for charitable contributions like the Humane Society or United Way or many others” said Johnson.
During the Bake-Off, the employees who baked them are not present.
“There’s kind of a mystique about who’s baking what because you’re supposed to have a blind system of casting your votes” said Johnson.
The winner of the competition will receive not only bragging rights, but an 18-piece nonstick baking kit.
Over two-hundred-and-thirty dollars was raised for the SEFA organization on Tuesday from the Bake-Off, the students and faculty enjoyed their baked goods, and the votes were cast to see who will win the grand prize.
