OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State men’s basketball team concluded the 2021 fall semester with a pair of SUNYAC wins, extending their win streak to three. The Lakers defeated Buffalo State 79-63 on Friday and SUNY Brockport 85-58 on Saturday.
Going into Friday’s matchup, the Lakers went in confident following their victory over SUNY Cortland a few days prior. That confidence showed early in the game as the Lakers raced out to a 9-0 lead to begin the first half. Oswego pushed their lead to 33-13 with just 3:16 remaining in the half. The Lakers went into halftime leading 41-25 with the Oswego bench outscoring Buffalo State’s bench 23-0. Oswego continued their dominance in the second half as the Bengals got no closer than 16 points. Four Lakers finished with double-digit points including Julian Crittendon (14), Ahkee Anderson (11), Jeremiah Sparks (11) and Brendan Mulson (10). Oswego out-rebounded Buffalo State 46-37, led by junior Devin Green who finished with a team-high seven rebounds.
Much like Friday’s matchup versus Buffalo State, the Lakers started off their game against SUNY Brockport leading 9-0. Though, the Golden Eagles stormed back with an 11-0 run of their own. Oswego was able to capitalize on several runs throughout the first half and went into halftime leading 51-26. The Lakers led by as much as 30 points in the contest and won by 27, their second largest margin of victory this season. Oswego was led by Devin Green who had a team-high 15 points on the night.
With these pair of victories, the Lakers improve to 6-1 on the season and move into 2nd place in the SUNYAC standings. After a short hiatus, Oswego will head to Fredonia to challenge the Blue Devils on Saturday, Dec. 11. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.

Oswego State women’s hockey completes season sweep against SUNY Canton
OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State women’s hockey team defeated the SUNY Canton Kangaroos 3-1 tonight in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena. The Lakers got their thirteenth win and extend their win streak to five games on Senior Night where Oswego State honored Chyne Kennedy, alternate captain Aislinn McAleer, and captain Philomena Teggart.
Heading into the second period, the Lakers and Kangaroos were tied at 1-1. The teams would trade shots in the second stanza but the score would remain the same heading into the final period of regulation. Early in the third period, Morgan Shines set up line mate Kyliegh Grugin for the game winning goal. Grugin got her seventh goal of the season and Shines snags another assist to push her point total to fifteen on the campaign. Ariella Haas got her fifth goal of the season to seal the deal for the Lakers. Haas continues to lead the team in points after transferring from Elmira College.
With tonight’s NEWHL conference win, the Oswego State women’s hockey team clinches a spot in the conference post season. Currently, the Lakers are tied with SUNY Cortland for second place in the conference standings with a total of 21 points. On Tuesday, the Lakers will play on the road against SUNY Potsdam with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m. up in Potsdam. The Bears are now in the fourth seed in the standings two points above the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton. A Look Ahead: Oswego State women’s hockey prepares for non-conference contest against Utica College
OSWEGO, N.Y. — On Sunday, the Oswego State women’s hockey team will return home to host non-conference opponent Utica College. The Pioneers will travel west down Interstate-90 to take on the Lakers in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena. The 3:00 p.m. puck drop will feature the Utica College team that currently holds an overall record of 9-2. The team currently is second in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference with an 8-0-0 conference record. On the other side, the Lakers are 6-2-1 heading into the matchup after having four contests cancelled this week due to COVID-19 concerns. Oswego State is also third in the NEWHL conference and has a conference record of 3-2-1.
The Pioneers were supposed to take on number one team in the nation Middlebury College prior to their matchup with Oswego State but the game was postponed most likely due to COVID-19. In terms of the matchup history, the Lakers are 9-15-2 against the Pioneers but Oswego State is currently on a two-game win streak against the non-conference opponent. Their last game was February 8th, 2020 in which the Lakers won 2-1 on the road. While in the national spotlight, the Oswego State Lakers are ranked sixteenth in the pairwise ranking while the Utica College Pioneers are two spots behind them in eighteenth. Faceoffs will be a big part of the contest as both teams head into the contest with a percentage higher than .580. Oswego State forwards Morgan Shines and Rachel Corbett will be essential in the faceoff circles on Sunday. The Lakers offense, led by Ariella Haas and Megan Teachout will need to continue their dominance Sunday afternoon after scoring an average of 3.1 goals a game in the first half of the season.

Mens Baseball Sweeps Fredonia in Weekend Action
ROCHESTER, NY – It was a successful weekend for the Lakers as they convincingly beat the Fredonia Blue Devils in both of their encounters this weekend. Game won was nothing short of a blowout that saw the Lakers dominate Fredonia with a final score of 12-1. The momentum was in favor of the Lakers from the start as they truly dominated this game. Fredonia would score their only run of the game in the top of the second inning. Senior Colin Williams was on fire this game as he finished with one run and two RBI’s. It really was a team effort however as the Lakers were firing on all cylinders from start to finish. The Lakers looked to take this momentum into the next day where they had a rematch against the Blue Devils.The Lakers kept the momentum rolling the next day when they knocked off Fredonia for the second time. This game was a lot closer and saw both teams fighting hard for a victory. The Lakers started off hot scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Blue Devils weren’t going to let history repeat itself as they bounced right back tying the game in the third. The Lakers then went on to score three more runs and the game looked like it was shaping up to be another Lakers victory. Fredonia was not done however as they came right back and scored three more runs to tie the game at six. After this the game got out of hand with the Lakers completely taking over. Freshman Emil Sander would score the Lakers final run to give them a five run victory as the Lakers completed the weekend sweep. The Lakers look to keep this momentum rolling as they head to New Paltz this Friday at 3pm.
