Oswego Volleyball loses both games but has strong showing
OSWEGO — Lakers Volleyball finished SUNYAC play this weekend at the Max Ziel Gymnasium that started with a match up against the Brockport Golden Eagles on Friday night. The team would battle back to eventually lose by 2 points in the fifth set. Lakers were led by Melissa Lussier (15 kills and 2 aces) and Shauna O’Flaherty (13 kills and 3 blocks) who allowed the Lakers to win set number four and force the match into set five. The following day, the Lakers battled the conference leader SUNY Geneseo in a tight four set match up. The group would lose the first two sets by only three points each to the Knights. Senior Julia Flohr (18 digs) led the Laker defense in the third set to send the match into the fourth before the Knights became victorious. This lose ends SUNYAC regulation play for Oswego, who was granted the six-seed for the SUNYAC Championship. The team will travel to Cortland on November 5th for the opening round.

Oswego womens soccer continues to dominate with win over Potsdam
OSWEGO, N.Y. – It was another day at the office for the Lakers as they tool it to the Potsdam Bears from start to finish. The Lakers came out swinging early and did not take their foot off the gas the whole game. Freshman Briana Winkler put the Lakers on the board early as she has made a huge impact on the team in her first year as a Laker. From there it was a bit of a back and forth battle until the end of the half. The second half is where things picked up for the Lakers as Katie Delgrosso put the Lakers up 2-0. With five goals on the season already, Delgrosso has been on an absolute tear. Potsdam just couldn’t do anything to halt the Lakers momentum as Lexi Thompson scored the third and final goal of the game for the Lakers, putting the contest away. The Lakers outshot the Bears 17-6 putting on an offensive clinic. The Lakers look to keep the hot streak rolling as they travel to Geneseo to take on the nights in a SUNYAC matchup this Wednesday. Oswego State softball battles in two doubleheaders
OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State softball team has been busy at the start of the 2022 season. Most recently, the Lakers had four games over the course of two days. On Monday, the Lakers traveled down Interstate 90 to Western New York to take on the Blue Devils of SUNY Fredonia in a SUNYAC doubleheader. The Lakers would be swept by the Blue Devils as SUNY Fredonia defeated Oswego State by scores of 1-5 and 3-4. Game 2 featured a closer score line as the Lakers were close in getting over the hump. With one run in the 6th and 7th inning, Oswego State closed in on the Blue Devils but could not find a way to tie before the end of the contest. Fiona Higgins and Maria Lutz split time on the mound as Higgins pitched for a total of 4.1 innings. Zoe Minnig and Tia Smith both had 2 hits and 1 run over the course of the contest.
On Tuesday, the Lakers looked to bounce back in a nonconference doubleheader at Hamilton College. Oswego State would get back in the win column in game 2 as the Lakers took a 3-1 victory. The win came due to a big fourth inning which saw the Lakers snagging three runs. The Continentals got it done in game 1 in a high scoring 9-7 win for the home team.
Oswego State now sits at 5-12 overall on the season with a 1-3 conference record. The Lakers turn the ship towards SUNY Cortland as the Red Dragons will travel up Interstate 81 to take on the Lakers in another conference doubleheader. Oswego State was victorious last time these two teams met in the 2021 season. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. at Laker Softball Field as WNYO will be live with all the action.
