OSWEGO, NY — Women’s Basketball falls into an eight game losing streak after dropping a SUNYAC match up against New Paltz 68-42. The Lakers fell behind early in the first quarter before the team outscored the Hawks in the second quarter 11 to 10. This would not be enough though as the Lakers would get outscored 42 to 24 in the second half to receive their tenth conference loss of the season. Junior Raiven Encarnacion led the Lakers with 13 points as she netted four field goals and four free throws. Oswego now sits in last place in the SUNYAC standings with only a .167 win percentage as the team still has six more conference games remaining. The Lakers will travel to Cortland on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip off before traveling back home for a game against Plattsburgh the following weekend.

Oswego State men’s hockey snags win in dominating fashion
OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State men’s hockey team continued their win streak on Friday night against the Buffalo State Bengals. The Lakers extended their win streak to two after a dominating 5-0 win on home ice. Oswego State is now with 10-4-1 after the SUNYAC victory and improves to 4-3-0 in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena. The Lakers also move up the conference standings posting sixteen points and slotting in at third place behind Geneseo and Cortland.
Oswego State got off to a hot start when defenseman Ryan Bunka walked in from the point to put the first Oswego State goal in the back of the net. The Lakers were just two minutes into the contest and the tally was assisted by captain Travis Broughman and forward Connor Sleeth. That would be the lone goal of the period before a hot second period that featured Oswego State netting three more goals. Tristan Francis secured his first career goal as an Oswego State Laker after a pass from Broughman. Eight seconds later, Jackson Arcan was fed a pass from Ryan Dickinson off the faceoff and buried the third goal of the contest. Francis would get the secondary assist and finish the contest with a goal and assist. The final goal of the period came from Shane Bull on the rush as the sophomore popped the bottle and got his second goal of the season. Alternate captain Josh LeBlanc and Conor Smart would get credited with the assists. In the third stanza, the Lakers would put the cherry on top with a tally from Quinn Warmuth. The defenseman secured his second goal of the 2021-22 season. Broughman and Sleeth would get the assists and the captain would finish with three assists to end the conference matchup. In between the pipes, Lakers netminder Steven Kozikoski would get the win after staying perfect and making thirty-five saves. His season stats improve to a 1.73 goals against average and a .939 save percentage after starting in net for ten total contests.
Oswego State now looks ahead to whiteout weekend as the Lakers welcome SUNY Potsdam and Plattsburgh State for two SUNYAC contests. The Lakers finish their homestand this weekend as Potsdam faces off against Oswego State Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena. On Saturday, the rivalry game is set for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop as the Cardinals of Plattsburgh State travel to Oswego. WTOP 10 will be live Friday night at 6:30 p.m. and then at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday for a special hour long pre-game show from the Perch inside the Marano Campus Center. Oswego Women’s Hockey secures Interim Head Coach
OSWEGO, NY — On Wednesday, June 17, the announcement was made by Oswego State Interim Athletics Director Eric Summers that the Women’s Ice Hockey team would be getting a new head coach, that being Mark Digby. Digby was the associate head coach of the team last season along side Diane Dillon, who will most likely retire from coaching. Dillon coached the team for 14 seasons. Digby will now be the Interim Head Coach heading into the 2020-21 season.
Digby graduated from SUNY Brockport in 2005 with a B.S. in Physical Education and M.S. in Recreation Management (2008). He would stay west of Rochester to be an assistant coach of the Men’s Hockey program from 2006-2010 before being hired by Oswego in the summer of 2010. Under Ed Gosek, Digby would be with the team while the group appeared in six NCAA tournaments, two frozen fours, and two national championship games.
In the Spring of 2019, Digby would make the switch to Women’s Hockey and join the team as the Associate Head Coach. During his first season with the group, the team would finish with a record of 16-7-4, the most wins for the program since the 2016-17 campaign. The Lakers would fall to the Plattsburgh Cardinals, the top team in the nation, in the NEWHL Championship. This was the first time the team has made the championship game after joining the conference. Overall, the group has made steady improvements and is in a good spot heading into the 2020-21 season under Digby. There looks to be a continued healthy relationship between the players and the coaching staff after Digby joined prior to this past season. Oswego rolls past SUNY Canton to continue winning success
OSWEGO — Women’s Basketball gets there second straight win Wednesday night against Canton in a 64-25 final. The victory featured a full Oswego effort as the team outscored the Roos 39-6 at halftime which was a result of some stellular defense as multiple Lakers posted more than four defensive rebounds. Taylor Torchia posted 3-6 for three pointers and finished with 13 points on the game and sophomore Ramatoulaye Sy tallied 16 points as she went 7-15 for field goals. Oswego plans to keep their winning success at home versus Alfred State this Saturday at the Max Ziel Gymnasium. Tip off will be at 3 p.m.
