OSWEGO N.Y. — It was a rough weekend for the Oswego State women’s basketball team as they were unable to find success in their two games played. The Lakers took on Potsdam in a SUNYAC matchup Friday night as they were looking to get back in the win column. The Lakers started off strong taking the early lead after the first quarter. Senior Danielle Caivana was on fire the whole game, dropping twenty-one points, nine from the three point line. She was pure money as she did everything she could to help her team and try to come out with the win. After the first quarter things got a little rocky for the Lakers as they lost their lead and couldn’t bounce back to come out with the win. Potsdam was firing on all cylinders despite the Lakers putting up a fight. Oswego State looked to put this fourteen point loss behind them as they hosted SUNY Plattsburgh in an important matchup the following day.
The Lakers had another SUNYAC matchup Saturday night against Plattsburgh. This game was a fight to the finish with both teams fighting desperately to come out on top. The Lakers were up by one at the end of the first. With a combination of lockdown defense and a good offensive performance, the Lakers were here to win. Yet again, Danielle Caivana had a stellar performance dropping a whopping twenty-two points this game to out do her performance from Friday. Caivana has had an incredible senior year and continues to prove how she is a crucial part of Oswego’s offense. Additionally, freshman Shania Iglesias had a great performance with nine points. At the end of the half Plattsburgh was able to take the lead, going up by four. The Lakers were not out of this game as they outscored Plattsburgh in the third, making it a three point game. Despite a valiant effort to come out with the victory, the Lakers ultimately came out on the losing end. The final score was sixty to fifty three. The Lakers go on the road to take on Buffalo State Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.!
