
GENESEO, N.Y. — It was a true fight to the finish for the Oswego State women’s basketball team against Geneseo. The Lakers went to battle against SUNY Geneseo and this matchup did not disappoint. It was a fight back and forth until ultimately one layup decided the contest with a final score of 49-51. This game was neck and neck until the very end. After the first quarter Geneseo had the momentum up seven points. The Lakers refused to go down this early however, going on a twelve to four run in the second putting them up two points at the half. Freshman Shania Iglesias scored twelve points with six coming from the three point line. Senior Logan Castiglione also had an impressive performance with nine points. Both Oswego and Geneseo put up sixteen points in the third leaving this game up for grabs in the final quarter. One key steal by Geneseo put them up by two in the final seconds of the contest to give them the win. Despite this tough loss the Lakers recorded an impressive sixteen turnovers. The Lakers face Oneonta in a SUNYAC matchup this Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the Max Ziel Gymnasium. Check it out live on WTOP 10!

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego state field hockey team won their regular season finale over Morrisville on the Laker turf Wednesday. Oswego started out the contest strong offensively starting with a Kacie Simzer goal just over 2 minutes into the contest. The Lakers would receive several penalty corners following the goal in the first quarter. Oswego kept their foot on the gas through the rest of the first and had 7 shots in the first half compared to the mustangs 0. Kacie Simzer would quickly strike again for the Lakers, just over 2 minutes into the second quarter assisted by Megan Delaney. Oswego was able to keep the pressure on with several penalty corners. That eventually led to another goal at the 28 minute mark from Kacie Simzer who would get a hat trick on the day, recording her third goal of the afternoon with an assist from Kate Mcnally. Following another corner for the Lakers, Kate Mcnally was able to get one of her own scoring the fourth goal for the Lakers right before the end of the first half. The Lakers closed out the first half with a dominant performance, getting 20 shots off against the Mustangs. Oswego had 13 corners in the first half of play which allowed Oswego to hold a 4-0 lead at the half.

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The boys went to work Tuesday in a battle against St. John Fisher. Ultimately the Lakers were more hungry for the win and came out on top. They had the momentum early on and were able to maintain this momentum throughout the game. The Lakers went up by four runs after sophomore Jacob Levine hit one out of the park resulting in a three run homer. Levine had himself a day with a homer and four RBI’s. St. John Fisher would score six unanswered runs in two innings, ultimately taking a one run lead going into the bottom of the seventh. The Lakers were not going to let off the gas however as they answered right back with two runs after Lukas Olsson scored a two run homer to give the Lakers the momentum. Another three runs sealed the deal for the Lakers as they walked out with an 10-8 victory. The Lakers go on the road Friday to take on Fredonia in their final regular season series. The first matchup begins at 3:00pm.
