BUFFALO, N.Y. – It was a dominant victory for the Lakers yesterday as the handled Buff State with ease. The “core four” was in full effect and back on track as all four had great performances. Leading the charge this game was Madison Davis with an impressive five goals on the day with two assists, making her the lead scorer. Right behind Davis was the star of the show Sela Wiley with four goals and three assists. Julia Quirk also put on a clinic with three goals and contributed to this dominant victory. This contest was pretty much put away after the first quarter as the Lakers put up ten goals in comparison to Buff States two goals. The Bengals stepped up their defense for the rest of the contest as the first quarter was by far the most dominant for the Lakers. Despite Buff States efforts to bounce back they were no match for this Lakers team as the final score was 18-7. The Lakers look to keep this momentum going as they return to Laker Turf Stadium to take on SUNY Cortland this Friday at 4pm. Catch it live on WTOP 10!

Oswego Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Morrisville to Kickoff 2021 Season

MORRISVILLE, NY — The Oswego State Women’s Lacrosse Team won their first game of the 2021 season, defeating SUNY Morrisville 20-14. This was the first game for the Lakers in over a year due to the pandemic and they started their season off strong with a hard fought road victory. Sophomore midfielder Sela Wiley set the tone early, scoring Oswego’s first goal less than three minutes into the game. After going down 6-3 midway through the 1st period, junior attack Logan Castiglione scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to one. Following a quick Mustang goal, the Lakers would score six consecutive points heading into the second period, before going on multiple scoring runs to put the game out of reach.
Sela Wiley lead the Lakers in points, scoring 7 goals on 10 shots, while Logan Castiglione scored 5 goals on 8 shots. Midfielders Shae McConnell (4), Isabella Lembo (3), and attack Kamryn Sherman (1) each added goals of their own. Junior Goalkeeper Delaney Kendrick also had two saves in the win. Following today’s victory, the Oswego Women’s Lacrosse Team remains undefeated versus Morrisville, bringing their all time record to 11-0. The Lakers are now 1-0 on the season as they turn their attention to their first game in conference play on March 27th at SUNY Brockport.

Oswego State Women’s Lacrosse Prepares for Brockport Following Win Versus Buffalo State
OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego Women’s Lacrosse team won their fourth game of the season on Monday, defeating the Buffalo State Bengals 14-4. This was the Lakers second win of the season versus the Bengals as the won their last matchup 14-6 on April 10th. The Lakers sweep the Bengals to get two wins this season in the SUNYAC West Division.
Oswego snapped a 3-game losing streak with Monday’s victory, something they needed to accomplish in order to keep pace in the West division. It was a back-and-forth game midway through the 1st half. The Lakers lead 3-0 in the opening 5 minutes following goals from Shae McConnell, Erin Lehmann, and leading scorer, Sela WIley. The Bengals then retaliated with 3 goals of their own, tying the game with 12:36 left in the 1st half. However, Buffalo State would never hold a lead in the entire game as they were outscored by Oswego 11-1 at the end of regulation. Wiley had yet another dominant performance on Monday. The sophomore scored 5 goals, bringing her season total to 27, and added an assist on top of that. McConnell also had a hat-trick while Isabella Lembo fell just short, totaling 2 goals and 1 assist. Four other Lakers scored a single goal, including Logan Castiglione, Julia Quirk, Erin Lehmann, and Katie Fierro. Fierro netted her first collegiate goal in the victory.

Oswego improved to 3-2 in SUNYAC play and will look towards their highly anticipated matchup vs SUNY Brockport. The Lakers will look to avenge their blowout loss to the Golden Eagles just a few days ago on April 17th. Oswego lost 22-9 but will have to have a short term memory heading into Wednesday’s matchup. Brockport is on a 7-game winning streak, backed by the outstanding play of leading scorer, Heather Conklin. Conklin has scored a whopping 39 goals this season and had 6 against Oswego in their previous game. The Golden Eagles also have two other players with more than 20 goals, including Cassidy Burnash (24), and Allison Jennings (21). The Lakers will have to play better defensively in order to keep up with Brockport’s high-powered offense. Oswego currently sits in 3rd place in the West division and needs a victory to keep pace with SUNY Geneseo (4-1). Brockport (6-1) has already clinched a playoff berth and will look to continue their great 2021 season on Wednesday. Face off is set for 4:00 PM at Brockport for this SUNYAC West matchup.

Lakers Dominate Blue Devils
OSWEGO, NY- The Lakers continued their dominant offensive performance from their last game as they defeated the Fredonia Blue Devils 19-2.The Lakers got off to a hot start in the first quarter as they scored two goals with less than a minute into the game as Isabella Lembo and Shae McConnell would get the Lakers on the board. The Blue Devils would then score their first goal of the game as Erin Woods would make it a 2-1 game. The first quarter would feature the Shea McConnell show as she scored four goals in the first quarter. The second quarter was a defensive battle between both teams until Shea McConnell scored with 42 seconds left to put the Lakers up 9-1 at half. Shea McConnell would lead the Lakers with five points in the half. Isabella Lembo would be second with two goals in the first half.
The Lakers were more explosive in the second half as they started out the second half with a bang scoring just 29 seconds into the quarter as Kate McNally would score her first goal of the game. A minute later, Julia Quirk would score her first goal of the game for the Lakers as . Sydney Buchko would score the second and final goal of the game for the Blue Devils. Isabella Lembo would add her third of the game to make it 13-2 Oswego with 8:58 remaining in the third quarter. Lembo would add her fourth goal of the game with :50 seconds left in the third. The Lakers led 15-2 heading into the fourth quarter. Sela Wiley would add two more goals for the Lakers along with Shea McConnell who would add her sixth goal of the game. Isabella Lembo scored her fifth goal of the game as she had her best game of the season and her career as she had ten points which included five goals and five assists. The Lakers would score their third most points in a game this season with 19.
The Lakers face off against their toughest opponent in the SUNYAC this season so far as they travel to take on the Suny Geneseo Knights. Geneseo is coming off a dominating performance against the Buffalo State Bengals winning 15-2. Megan Cook led the Knights with five points with four goals and one assist. The Lakers have struggled against Geneseo in their program’s history going 2-9 against them all-time with their last win coming in the 2018 season. Last season, the Lakers lost 17-6 to Geneseo. The Knights finished last season losing to Middlebury 22-6 in the second round of the NCAA D3 Women’s Lax Tournament. Middlebury would go on to win the NCAA D3 Women’s Lax Title last season. Geneseo travels up north to take on Clarkson on March 31st at 4:00. A win for the Lakers would be a huge statement for not only the Lakers but for the rest of the SUNYAC.
