OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Lakers found success this past Saturday as they came out with a huge win against Clarkson, Giving Clarkson their first loss of the season. This was no easy game as the lakers had to fight hard throughout this close contest. The first half was almost all Oswego as Clarkson simply couldn’t get anything going on offense. Inching close to the end of the first half sophomore Jackie Marquardt capitalized on an assist from Briana Wrinkler to put the Lakers up 1-0. The Lakers weren’t done there as Sara Marinaro scored another goal for the Lakers with Just three minutes left in the first half. Clarkson was able to rally in the second scoring a goal but couldn’t catch up due to the Lakers early lead. The team not only left with a huge win at Laker Turf, but Head coach Brian McGrane got his 100th career win as a result. The Lakers will open up SUNYAC play this Wednesday with a home game against Brockport. Catch it live on WTOP10 at 4:00pm.

Oswego State Baseball Continues Dominance Against Fredonia
OSWEGO, N.Y. — Oswego State Baseball continues to remain hot in the SUNYAC West with a sweep over the Fredonia Blue Devils. The Blue Devils came into the port city looking for their first SUNYAC win of the season and were left short. Oswego State would sweep the Blue Devils with scores of 17-6 and 9-2 and improved to 11-1 in the division.
The Lakers were led in game one by Dylan Frawley who was 3-4 at the plate and had four runs scored as well as a pair of RBI’s. Blue Devils pitching was not up to par with the Lakers hitting as Oswego was able to get 13 hits in the first game alone as well as drawing 12 walks with senior first baseman Ryan Weiss being the team leader with three of them. As for the second matchup, the Lakers were kept at bay for the first two innings but then erupted with 4 runs in the third then two runs in their last two innings . Fredonia’s only runs were scored in the fourth inning at that point it was already 4-0 Lakers. Oswego was led this game by 2nd baseman Ryan Enos who led the team in runs with three. Kieran Finnegan was able to carry the pitching for most of the game pitching 6 of the 7 innings with striking out 6 to remain unbeaten at 4-0 on the year.
The Lakers now move to 17-1 on the season as well as 11-1 in the division, Fredonia now falls to 3-12 on the season and 0-12 in the SUNYAC West. The Lakers now have a chance to make history as they are two wins away from setting the program record for consecutive wins at 18 that was set back in 1982. Oswego will attempt to achieve this with a double header vs Clarkson University on Tuesday May 4th at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Oswego already swept the Golden Knights once this season and have won their last 7 as well. As for Fredonia they look to find their first SUNYAC victory since 2019 with a double header matchup against the Brockport Golden Eagles on May 5th starting at 1:00 p.m.

Field hockey Loses in OT thriller
OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Lakers faced their SUNYAC foe Oneonta Red Dragons in a defensive battle on Saturday afternoon. Both defenses dominated in the first half where neither team could get a shot on goal. Oswego could only get 3 shots altogether in the first half with 2 from Kaitlyn Mastracco and one coming from Molly Darcy.
The second half started out the same with 3 minutes of no shots from both sides. That was until 3 minutes into the 3rd period sophomore Bryleigh Beauchat had her first shot blocked by Oneonta goalkeeper Jennifer Tumino, Beauchat was then able to get possession of the ball back off the save and knock it into the back of the goal for her first collegiate goal and a 1-0 Lakers lead. The Dragons were able to get their first penalty corner of the game 2 minutes later and took advantage of it off the stick of Carly Waszczak who tied the game at one. The Lakers had a chance in the fourth to pull away from the Red Dragons but failed to capitalize off of three back to back penalty corners. After another strong defensive performance from both sides in the 4th the game moved on to overtime in a 1-1 tied battle.
The Red Dragons found a spark in the first overtime, getting five shots on goal. But Erica Scheblein was a force to be reckoned with on a day where she ended with a game leading 5 saves. The Lakers had a chance early into the first overtime with a penalty corner that missed just wide left from Mastracco and brought this game to a second overtime. The Red Dragons decided to continue their fast paced offense in the second overtime and they capitalized 3 minutes in off a goal by Morgan Fleming to win the contest 2-1.
The Lakers now move to 0-3 in SUNYAC play and 6-5 altogether on the season. Oswego will now travel east to St. John Fisher University on Tuesday October 4th for their next matchup.

Lakers volleyball loses in SUNYAC championships
GENESEO, N.Y. – Oswego state volleyball team faced off against the Geneseo Knights on Tuesday afternoon for the first round of the SUNYAC Championships. The Lakers started off strong building a 3-1 lead over the knights. Both teams would go back and throughout the first half of the set. Geneseo would then take control later in the first set, increasing their lead to 7 over the Lakers.Oswego had many mistakes in the first half with 12 errors in the first set, 4 of which came from service errors. The Lakers had no answer and couldn’t get the lead back from the Knights as they took set 1 by a score of 25-17.
Geneseo continued to control the second set, establishing a 10-3 lead on the Lakers before a timeout by Oswego. The Lakers rallied back and cut the deficit to just 3 to the score 18-15. Oswego had no answers again falling in the second set by a score of 18-25. Emma Fiorentine led the Lakers with 4 kills in the second set and Mckenna Corbin added 7 more assists in set 2.
Oswego started off the third set stronger building a 5-0 lead on the Knights. The Knights would find their groove eventually and would come back and take the third set by a score of 25-20. In the set Fiorentine led the Lakers with 11 kills on the evening and Mckennaled with 29 assists and 14 digs. The Lakers were ultimately swept 3-0, ending their run for a SUNYAC Championship and their season.
Oswego State ends their season (17-11, 5-5 SUNYAC) and Geneseo will move on to the second round of the SUNYAC championships(12-11, 7-3 SUNYAC).
