Women’s hockey goes 1-1 against Plattsburgh
The women’s hockey team suffered their first lost of the season against Plattsburgh on Saturday. The Lakers lost 7-1. The Cardinals almost had a shutout until Kendall Applebaum scored in the third period.
On Sunday though, the women would get their first win against Plattsburgh since the women’s hockey program got restarted in the 2006-2007 season. Plattsburgh got the first two goals on the board but then the Lakers took over. Jacquelin White got the scoring started for the Lakers in the second period. In the third, Eryn Stewart would get her first goal of the year to tie the game for the Lakers. Just 21 seconds later, Olivia Ellis would score what ended up being the game-winning goal. Mariah Madrigal stopped a career-high 48 shots.
With the win and loss, the Lakers move to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in conference. The women will travel to Massachusetts and take on Williams in non-conference action on Saturday and Sunday.

Syracuse University offers mumps vaccine

SYRACUSE, N.Y.– Syracuse University is offering a boost in the m-m-r vaccine, as the number of mumps cases continues to grow. 4,000 more vaccines for mumps are being made available to students, after 27 confirmed cases of the mumps on the Syracuse campus.
Onondaga county health commissioner, Dr. Indu Gupta says that the outbreak is still spreading, as 2 other confirmed cases of the mumps have popped up in Onondaga County but the outbreak is mainly on the university campus. The vaccine is expected to help contain and eliminate the outbreak but officials that it is not a replacement for the everyday precautions people should take to avoid the disease.
Mumps is contagious and spreads through saliva and respiratory secretions, so people are urged to avoid sharing drinks or utensils and mouth to mouth contact. SUNY Oswego had a case of the mumps in September of last year but it did not lead to level of outbreak that Syracuse University is experiencing now.
Vaccines will be free for Syracuse students and the University is holding a 2 day vaccination event on Thursday and Friday this week.

Funnelle Hall has it’s largest Funnelle-o-ween Party so far
The annual Funnelle-O-Ween party took place last Tuesday night at Funnelle Hall.
According to the organization, this year they have had the highest attendance so far, with activities that ranged from a haunted house to raffles or face painting. “I like the haunted house and the food the best,” says student Mikayla McGarry.
“You know, I mean, it’s definitely interesting to see a lot of people will have like different costumes and you see people from… we have a lot people in this school from different countries and stuff so they’ll have a different variety of costumes as well, something you may not typically see,” Resident Advisor Seth Prevratil says.
“We’ve been doing this program for, I believe, it’s four years now here in Funnelle. It’s basically just an alternative for the residents to have something fun to do for Halloween. The residents really seem to enjoy it every year, so this year we decided to make it bigger and better. We added a haunted house, there’s new activities like pumpkin painting, a donut eating competition… As a person, having a diverse amount of people come to the program is really awesome, especially being here like I said for my third year just seeing all different people come together as a community and get involved and just not in Hart or at whatever building they live in, but coming to Funnelle from different parts of campus,” says Emily Vogt.
Students had a spook-tacular this year, so if you were not able to attend “boockle” up for next year.
