“Restart” Exhibit To Christen Tyler Hall’s Gallery
After two years of occupying the third floor of Penfield Library, Tyler Hall has reopened with a kickoff art exhibit titled “Restart.”
From October 4 to October 30 “Restart” will occupy the gallery space in the downstairs area of the newly renovated Tyler Hall. The exhibit encompasses artwork by different artists from throughout the nation, many with ties to Oswego State University.
“Tyler Hall has been a pivotal building on campus for 48 years,” said Cynthia Clabough, Chair of Oswego State’s Art Department
“The opening to the gallery is metaphorical in terms of providing openness and fluidity to the campus,” said Clabough. Tyler Hall Art Gallery Director Michael Flanagan added, “New beginnings and fresh starts are ideas that all artists contemplate.”
“Restart” includes artwork from artists nationwide, however the exhibit is built to emphasize the community. Art teachers, mentors, and students from three local high schools are invited to visit the gallery and interpret what restart means to them and submit artwork reflecting such thoughts.
In the Juror’s statement, Helaine Posner, the Chief Curator states that the inaugural exhibit of Tyler Hall reflects to diversity and vitality of creating art in today’s world.
“Many artists with contributing work on “Restart” take inspiration from the natural world, while others incorporate urban landscapes,” said Posner.
The artwork varies in terms of different media, with work dabbling in painting, drawing, collage-ing, sculpture and photography.
The selected works reinforce the ideas promoting fresh ideas on contemporary life, and serves as an inauguration to the reopening of Tyler Hall.
For many students, the reopening presents an opportunity to view art in a museum like setting without venturing off campus.
“I’m excited to see the new gallery in Tyler Hall,” said SUNY Oswego sophomore Amna Sadique. “I never visited the gallery when it was in Penfield, but I am looking forward to the changing exhibits as the semesters go on,” said Sadique.
Tyler Hall art gallery is a newly renovated room on the first floor of Tyler Hall. The gallery presents six exhibits annually, which are free and open to the public. In addition, the gallery serves as a classroom to teach and for students and community members to learn through direct encounters of professional quality artwork.
In addition to Tyler Hall, there is an off campus gallery located at 168 West First Street giving students opportunities to create both fine and preforming artwork with inspiration from previous art creating a collaborative atmosphere.
For students, faculty, staff, and community members alike there will be a free public reception featuring several artists on Friday, October 21 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Disney Plus: The New Trend
Photo Credit: MGN On November 12th, Disney has launched their new streaming service, Disney plus, and just by the results, many seems to love this new site.
As of November 12th, 10 Million people subscribed to Disney plus and the numbers kept on rising till this day.
With endless content in the provider, more than 500 movies are inputted into the site, which includes many classics such as Snow White, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and more and many of modern movies as well. This site also have included a multitude of many Disney’s original series, going all the way back from the early 2000s, like That’s So Raven, Wizards of Waverly Place, Hannah Montana, and more. Plus, they have also implemented their own new series, such as the Mandalorian (which is connected with Star Wars).
Since Disney Plus also have content from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographics, this attracts many different demographics and they are able to watch whatever they please.
Now that Disney Plus is in the scene, major competition stirs within the streaming world, which includes Amazon Prime Videos, HBO GO, and on top: Netflix. With Netflix making new deals such as making a collaboration with Nickelodeon to produce various of their shows, Disney and Nickelodeon once again butt heads as to who should take the top spot.
As many students are satisfied with the nostalgic feeling from both Disney and Nickelodeon, they share their response to matter of the rivalry between Disney Plus and Netflix.
“I think that Netflix has a lot more going for them than Disney. It may draw away a few people to watch a few Disney movies, you know on Netflix, but in the long run, I don’t think that Netflix should have much to worry about regarding Disney Plus. ”- Damon Fletcher

“I think I feel bad for Netflix because I just feel that Disney owns a lot, it’s a huge conglomerate, so they have a lot more to offer right now I think than Netflix does.” – Ivanelis Fletcher

“Either people have Netflix or Disney Plus now. They are like watching monopolies like Disney get ESPN, Netflix gets a deal with Nickelodeon. Like it’s just crazy how they are just taking over on what people watch on regular TV anymore.”- Matthew Van Ihsem
With this new craze, Disney Plus is releasing more content and more students are subscribing.

Murder suspect claims victim ran into his knife
A Baldwinsville teenager charged with second-degree murder claims the victim ran into a kitchen knife he was holding in his hand.
Anthony J. Miller, a 46-year-old Granby man, was killed on Super Bowl Sunday when four teenagers attempted to rob his mobile home.
Michael Celi, 17, of 9 McHarrie St, along with Glenwood E. Carr, 16, of 610 Lamson Road; and Zachary M. Scott, 19, of 7645 Van Buren Road are charged with burglary and murder.
According to court documents, Celi told state police in an interview Sunday that, “After the Super Bowl on Feb. 2, using their mother’s white car, Celi’s brother took him, Zach Scott and Carr to Miller’s house. When Celi and Carr entered the home, Miller attacked Carr, punching and hitting him. Celi was armed with a kitchen knife he had brought from home.
State troopers say, “Mr. Celi stated Miller ran into the knife while he had it in his hand,”
The knife penetrated Miller’s chest or stomach causing him to fall on his back. Celi told troopers that Miller pulled the knife out of him and Celi punched Miller in the face.
Carr took a glass bong from Miller’s house, Celi told troopers.
Miller was killed. He was found Feb. 3 in his mobile home by friends.
