Hearing is about to get a little clearer in Oswego.

SUNY Oswego is upgrading some of its major venues on campus to be more hearing aid friendly. The college is installing hearing loops, which will minimize reverberations and ambient noise. The hearing loops will be compatible with newer models of cochlear implants as well as most digital hearing aids.

Although SUNY Oswego is only upgrading a few locations at the moment, the college hopes to install the system at other locations on campus in the future.

A few of the locations getting the upgrade are the Marano Campus Center, Sheldon Ball Room and the new Waterman Theatre.

The Oswego State women’s basketball team kicked off the Max Ziel Tournament with a 66-27 win over Medgar Evers College Friday night. With the victory, the Lakers move to 1-1 on the season while also giving head coach Sean Pinkerton the first win of his Oswego career. The Medgar Evers Cougars remain winless as they fall to 0-2.

Unlike their first game of the season in which the offense struggled, Oswego was able to start the game on an 8-0 run against the Cougars. The dominance on offense would continue for the Lakers as they led 32-8 going into halftime. Tatyana Fish led the team with eight points in the first half and finished with 13. Her teammate, Courtney Ameele also contributed a game high fifteen points to go along with five steals.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Lakers hauled in 58 rebounds with Morgan Wolanin grabbing a career-high 12 of them. Rachel Windhausen was just as effective as she had eight rebounds and three blocks.

Oswego will be back in action tomorrow as they try to capture the Max Ziel Tournament title at 4 pm against Elmira College.

The Oswego State field hockey team fell to Cortland by a score of 7-2 for their first loss in SUNYAC play. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 5-4 on the season while the Red Dragons move to 10-3.

Cortland opened the scoring in the first half thanks to goals from four different Red Dragons. They would take that lead into halftime and added two additional scores early in the second half including Jess Gibaldi’s second of the game. It was not until the 68th minute that Oswego would get on the board. However, for freshman Theresa Glynn, it will be one that she remembers as it was the first of her career. Kathleen Little would also put one in the back of the net for the Lakers to go along with her assist.

Oswego will look to get back into the win column on Saturday when they travel to Geneseo to take on the Knights in another SUNYAC matchup.
