Men’s Soccer Endures First Loss of the Season
The Oswego State men’s soccer team’s five game undefeated streak has come to an end. St. Lawrence defeated the Lakers by a score of 2-0 on Friday at Laker Turf Stadium. Oswego’s record is now 4-1-1 while St. Lawrence’s improves to 2-2-1.
The first score of the game came in the fifteenth minute when the Laker’s goaltender was given a red card and St. Lawrence tallied their penalty kick.
The next and final goal came during the 64th minute when Brendan McNamee scored from in tight to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
The Lakers are back in action on Saturday in Morrisville to face the Mustangs at 4 p.m.

The Wizard of Oz

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Wizard of Oz is a classic production known across generations. Many know the story of the little girl from Kansas and the yellow brick road. What if all that is changed? What if instead of the yellow brick road there are train tracks, and instead of the traditional costumes it’s steampunk and edgy teenagers?
That’s exactly what to expect in Oswego State Theatre Department’s production this season. A twist where teenagers just like Dorothy set out on an adventure to rediscover themselves.
Despite the thematic differences, it will still include the same main idea and plot, including the same songs many know and love from the original.
The theme of hobos and train hopping is incorporated into the production. The train hopping is based on personal experiences had by the director. Her son was injured a few years ago while jumping off of a train. This theme of trying to find where you belong is reflected in both train hopping and Dorothy’s desires. They are trying to find where they belong in life or in other words their very own “magical yellow brick road”.
The show is celebrating the kick-off of the newly renovated Tyler Hall and Waterman Theatre. There is still one weekend left for audiences to follow the journey to Oz and witness the magic redefined.

Pinwheels for Prevention
In honor of April being national child abuse prevention month Oswego’s Child Advocacy Center, located in Fulton, New York, has set out to spread awareness through Oswego County by placing blue and white pinwheels around the area.
These pinwheels are a part of a national campaign that multiple organizations take part in, in order to spread awareness of child abuse through communities and get the conversation started that children need to be looked out for not only by their families but their community as well.
Executive Director of Oswego County Child Advocacy Center, Karrie Damm, gave some insight as to why the Pinwheels are placed throughout the County “The pinwheel gardens that you see throughout the community are intended to start a conversation. We would like people to see those and have a conversation amongst themselves, amongst their friends, and especially with their children.” Although the conversation may seem touchy Karrie stressed how important it is to begin having conversations about serious issues such as this one. Because the first step to preventing incidents is spreading awareness, which the conversations help to achieve.
Although the child advocacy center is not well known throughout Oswego County it is an important organization that more people should get involved with. Take Craig Stewart for example, he is an electrician for the building, but STILL volunteers and aids the employees there because he does it for the unfortunate children that have to seek help at the organization.
