Living on Campus at SUNY Oswego is Easy!

With the summer quickly approaching, it is time for SUNY Oswego students to start applying for housing for the upcoming semester. This is a four step process that ensures an efficient way to establish housing for the upcoming semester.
The first of the four steps was an in person mandatory meeting. This took place in the Hart Hall lounge from March 1st-8th. This meeting was to inform the potential on campus students to the rules and guidelines for enrolling in on campus housing. Then the students signed a form stating they had indeed gone to the mandatory meeting.
The second of the four steps is to submit the 100 dollar deposit and agree to the terms of room and board. This step must be completed by Tuesday march 8th. This secures the students spot on campus in a residence hall.
The third of the four steps is submitting housing preferences. This includes roommate(s) / suitemates as well as residence hall and room preference. The forth step is to simply choose from the available space and select the final choices.
This process is currently underway and the deadline for step two, the hundred dollar deposit it this Tuesday march 8th. So if you plan on living on campus the fall of 2016 make sure to complete these steps.

SUNY Oswego’s Campus Technology Services hosts Cyber Awareness Month

OSWEGO, N.Y.– SUNY Oswego’s Campus Technology Services hosts Cyber Awareness Month in the month of October. This Month is dedicated to the security of mobile devices and computers for students and staff on campus. Events have been held for various forms of cyber security and are open to anybody.
The Campus Technology Support urges everyone to be cautious of all your devices to avoid any further cyber-attacks. Some examples of suspicious cyber behavior include phishing emails or scams sent by people who are attempting to hack others on campus.
Campus Technology Services Help Desk Assistant Ian said he wanted to remind students not to open or respond to suspicious emails, and to always check the source.
“One of the ones I thought was pretty convincing was a phishing email where they took our header and all they simply did was give you a link that said please log in here to confirm your account but when you clicked the link, it wouldn’t actually bring you to any of our sites or anywhere in Oswego. It basically brought to a page that looked like a log in and asked you for your username and password,” Lenich said.

Student Protest

Wednesday morning, SUNY Oswego students took to the campus grounds to protest issues regarding Tuesday night’s presidential results. The protest began in the quad on campus around 10 a.m. Students held signs and chanted, walked across campus entering dining halls, residence halls, the Marano Campus Center, and ending back in the quad mid day. University Police was not involved and there has been no official email regarding the incident.
Following the protest, students met in a Marano Campus Center classroom to continue their talk on the election results. The meeting was led by SUNY Oswego’s Black Student Union and African Student Organization. During this open forum, many students were outraged with Tuesday night’s results and expressed their concerns for their future. An anonymous protestor commented on Donald Trump’s upcoming presidency stating, “Allowing him into office is policing us not only as people, but as a nation.”
This has been a trend across the United States in the past 24 hours. According to CNN.com, protests have broken out in major cities across the U.S. since the final polls were released Tuesday night. From New York City to Los Angeles, thousands of people have taken to the streets in protest of Donald Trump and in promotion of social movements.
